Yeah this game remind me so much of HotS in both beign exited for known heroes releases but also I think like HotS, marvel Rival try to focus on fun and unique mechanics over balance, like healers and tanks are not healing bots but they have so many tools to change the game and some heroes feels very unique like they can have their own class like mr.fantastic for me feel like HotS bruiser.
I think they are killing it! So far so good, 2 heroes a season is absolutely wild. I really hope they can pull it off. If they can they will have put the whole industry on notice when it comes to putting out content for a live service game.
I think he was speaking more on the ultimates. There are like 4 support ultimates that just negate all damage for 6-12 seconds and kinda halt or win any given fight. There are some adjustments to be made in the ult department
yeah, but it wont affect her win rate or game impact. The mantis nerf is only felt by the mantis player, which is the worst kind of change. Doesn't actually make any difference, but makes the hero feel worse to play. Imo all the support changes were lacking. The only 2 good changes were luna's and jeff's ult, which are just bug fixes.

When nearly every big play gets shut down by a sup ult it gets really annoying really fast. I essentially have to bait out mantis/Luna ult before ever casting mine if I want to get any value from it.
I love the open queue format of this game. I am a flex player who is willing to fit the mold for whatever i feel my team is missing, and I have learned a few characters from each role that I enjoy playing very much. Another thing I love is that often I don't ever feel truly countered like I did in overwatch. As you've said, Freedo, these characters are so whacky and crazy ability wise, that 9/10 times i feel I'll lose a 1v1 due to a mistake on my part rather than just because their character counters mine.
I think the reality is that there are dps that serve specific purposes..I agree with your take Like wolverine exists to delete a tank. Why play a tank in that scenario when you can counter it by literally picking anything else. You can’t really balance the game around that in a role queue scenario.
@@cumshun an aspect of the game that I think is really interesting is the fact the team can actually function well with like 1 tank in the front for the team or even potentially 3 healers if you have loki as an off healer as example. It really shows how the flexibility of the game allows for so many strategies to function. I think the devs really took a look at overwatch and how role queue just would not work for what they wanted, in a game with so many options you want everyone to make the choices they need to. At very high level play too, incorporating hero bans means that the best players can take down problem characters without having to balance the entire game at every level of play

People keep trying this in my ranked matches and we lose because we have no damage ;l sigh. I don't think compositions matter in mid-lower ranks rn (anything below GM imo). The players matter WAY MORE. Stop trying to copy what you've heard is op please god x.x just do what you're good at. Hell even had a complete comeback yesterday when someone was forcing themselves on tank cause no one else would when they're a dps main. Immediately started winning the moment they swapped. Thank you for pointing out similarities with Smite, as a 10 year Smite player the transition to this game was seamless despite the difference in game modes. I don't see many people making this comparison
i think when we can get away from looking at things as tank, dps and healer will be super useful in this game. The way i look at the roles is this vanguard, these are you marines, and infantry. They are the ones pushing the front line of battle, they are typically tough crazy and can do some damage. duelist, your operator types, snipers, SF. you know what every person seems to wish they were when they pick up a gun or throw a punch. strategists, these are your military support type roles, engineers, dr's, communication, supplies etc. (not super glamorous but try to move an army with no supply line and see what happens.) if you look at it like that the make more sense, the vanguard pushes forward on their own they are strong but its a slog. So throw in a duelist, they come in and disrupt the support structures of the opposing force and pull resources which then allow the vanguard unit to move forward more effectively. The strategist is then trying to provide tools, supplies and everything else to keep the pain train going, either through healing, buffing, rezzing, and controlling things. if you wrap your head around the concept that vanguards are not "Tanks" but ie units meant to just absorb dmg for the rest of the team, The vanguards job is not to eat dmg for others, its to push the line. the duelist's job isn't to get the biggest dps (though normally will end up with it by doing this job), its to cause the most disruption to the opposing team by causing their resource to get scattered and hinder abilities for them to push, or defend by killing or harassing's support structures so the other team cannot focus its force effectively. The duelist can also play a more backline defense role since removing the other teams ability to hinder a support line can weaken the opposing force. The strategist's job whole life it to try to keep the train moving forward, that may mean making decisions on if they should go forward and save someone, stay on the point and supply the team, heal someone, keep themselves alive, or pop use some other tool to keep your team in play longer that the other team. That does not mean you will not be making decisions to not heal someone if that move would jeopardize the larger group. Honestly strategist types have to be the best at reading situations and then knowing when to hold them, know when to fold them, and know when to run :p so that they can try to keep the train moving. again not saying others don't have the same to do but duelists dying is less dmg to a team than a vanguard or strategist dying, but the duelist can do some of the most messed up things to the other team so in the end all is important but they are more broad then guy in front tanks, dps are only doing dmg, and backline makes everyone only live.
Why did he not ask why they dont have bans in all ranks? Being able to ban spiderman from being on my team wouldve helped a lot when climbing out of bronze-gold.
I don’t agree with the fastball take, being able to Lamar Jackson your Logan into their backline (which gives a free drag without putting his actual drag move on cooldown) to fetch you an unsuspecting tank is as effective as it is entertaining

Multiple objectives sounds cool. Maybe like a 3d version of KILLER QUEEN. Win by 3 ways, kill the VIP, capture the flag or capture the point. Make it happen.
best example of a healthy competitive experience and QP fun factor that I know of is definitely the Smash Brothers experience. having items and crazy maps for always entertaining and silly matches, while turning those off to have a more fair skill expressive game with the extreme depths of the characters. And those games barely have balance changes. I mean melee still gets tierlist changes after like 20+ years.
Role queue would absolutely mess with the identity Rivals currently has. Even just the current teamups in the game, I can think of one that's two supports (Jeff and Luna) and one that only includes DPS characters (Magik, Black Panther, Psylocke). I'm much more into having these teamup abilities get shuffled every few months than to ACTUALLY turn Rivals into an Overwatch Clone. It's its own thing right now. That's cool! I don't want that to go away.
Hulk throwing Logan is an old comics staple, it's probably why it's in game, cuz it'd be a fun thing to do... there's a possibility for Thing to do the same with Reed, where Reed would go into a giant pinball where he would get thrown, and bounce around enemies like a pinball
This is the annoying parts about this game, and I guess games in general these days. It’s like people forget it’s a game… I know this is probably your entire life but it’s not a professional sport… it’s a video game that people play for fun. Sometimes a thing is just in the game for fun. So annoying like how come every single thing isn’t optimized to the max and every single ability the best possible ability???
If someone is saying to themselves that they would do better if someone else picked a specific hero, that someone is the one making the mistake. One gets better at a game like this changing the hero YOU play to the situation it calls for.
Ppl really don't understand how diverse this game is. Today alone, I won a game against a 2/2/2 team with 5dps/1tank, and then another game where our team was 4healer/2dps against 2healer/3dps/1tank. Team comp is practically worthless in this game, while character matchup and player skill is truly the king
You said you dont like playing Peni, but she is so much fun because of how much dmg you do and how easy it is to move around and live... I just picked up the game and one tricked to Diamond 3
only problem i have with marvel rivals its that the healing output on supports is insane and at times, it is pointless to com a feeding tank at a 100hp
Depends , if the all team focus the same person, the damage is superior than the heal he can receive, it's all about the good focus and chemistry in the team (sorry if my English is weird, I'm native Spanish)

I am against role queue but I feel like a system wherein if a team during hero select has no tank or support, the entire team is restricted in choosing dps not unless at least one person chooses a tank and supp. So that there wont be a huge restriction on the roles but still keep the fundamentals of it, so team comp such as 1/3/2, 1/2/3, and the traditional 2/2/2 can be played by players depending on their teams play style.
hearing that they have no plans for role q, is music to my ears. Changing the comp or roles as you play a match and need to adjust, is the best feeling ever. I hated role q in OW and I don't want it on Rivals, as it's clear that ppl who do want it, are ppl that can't play multiple roles, nor understand the benefits of not having one. What I would like to see is maybe placement games for comp or a drop of less than 7 divisions, because man, this is torture. Dropping to silver/gold is such a pain.
12:32 From what I can tell, Mr. Fantastic is meant to be flexible, able to easily go wherever and do whatever the team needs. Need help holding the frontline, he's got the durability to hang in there. Need help defending the backline, he's an excellent anti-dive character. A good Mr. Fantastic is generally gonna be pretty effective in a 1v1 against most characters in my experience, and in team fights he can swing his arms around to hit multiple targets over an area. His main weaknesses are that he's exclusively close-to-mid range, has mediocre DPS outside of inflated state, and lacks mobility without other heroes nearby, but the attributes of his kit allow him to be effective in a broad range of scenarios
I would like to see 2 or 3 stages to the "reloads". A good example is Strange. When you need to "reload" and you go over halfway through the animation, but need to shield, you lose all progress even though he clearly drew some energy from the dark force. Maybe make it so on magical type characters, as their animations play, you're gaining charges. That way, if you get halfway through a Strange "reload", and pop a shield, you get half your magic "magazine" filled
I think it’s important to realise that whilst some characters are very strong (hulk, hela, Hawkeye) it’s because of their enhanced stats or team ups, which rotates our each season - how good will hulk be when he loses 150hp and no longer amps strange/iron man? How good will groot be with 150 hp less? Whilst some heroes seem to be very strong, the balancing is likely to be seasonal rather than year round. I think the bigger balance concerns are heroes that are strong WITHOUT any benefits or season buffs
Honestly, i havent had an issue with someone picking who they like, and i feel that all the roles are pretty fun so far. I have a handful of characters in each role that i really like, unlike overwatch were i hate dps and healer
You want to sit on groot because it's cute. You throw the wolverine because it's from the comics. Also, imagine doing that with a friend so or brother. I want more team ups like that.
I want to see the changes to team ups next season and what that actually all means. A fun idea for one is having peni be an anchor and allow spider man to benefit from her webs (healing, over heal, movement spd, everything she gets). just using her ult making a large area that spider man can benefit from just sounds interesting. (peni is who i like playing, almost lord)

Everyone is OP and i love it, good communication with your team and switching team comp multiple times during the match is can be so rewarding when your team is on the same wave length. I’m amazed that people adapt to the teams needs most of my games, At the release of overwatch the community just locked their one trick pony all matches.

Hi there, As a DPS-Moira turned DPS-Jeff, role lock won't save you Edit: Also I think Groot-riding isn't exactly useful because Jeff is faster alone, but he gives jeff some bonus HP which is nice. With a Groot and Luna, jeff can decimate a team. I think the Hulk throw thing is more because Wolverine can't really wall climb. I personally would like to have a venom/jeff teamup but i'm hella biased.
I'm super glad they didn't nerf anything to the ground. There are hard counters for everything in the game. But one thing that really does annoy me is squirrel girl's ult. It's far too strong now. Yeah, they lowered the HP of the ult from 600 to 300. But 99% of players aren't even aware it has HP, and to hit it you need to hit the large squirrel in the middle of the ult. 300 HP for a super fast moving killing wave is still far too much. The thing should have 200 HP max and if not then it should have a much larger hitbox so all the squirrels in the wave should count as damage.
Role queue doesn't really make sense when there are several heroes that can fit into front line and DPS, support and DPS, even front line and support (Magneto).
I couldnt find any info online but I wonder what the dev team size is at NetEase and how it compares to OW? The content cadence seems massive but are we being fair comparing to OW? Im really not sure yet.
In terms of role lock/queue I don't really care about 2-2-2. Being able to queue for a specific role you want to play has benefits that other people don't talk about that simply outweigh balanced team compositions. The largest benefit being having different ranks for your skill level in the different roles. The more I climb as a tank player, the less likely I will ever be to want to Branch out to play the different roles because I am not as good at those roles as I am at tank. For me, it's not about balance. It's about being comfortable playing every role in the game, and being able to learn those roles in a competitive environment while also not feeling like I'm throwing. Also, I want to push for separate balance patches for quick play and competitive. One of overwatch's bigger problems, in my opinion, was the fact that quit playing competitive were basically the same thing. I think they should be and feel very different.
I really hope they fix hulk to compete with the rest of the characters. Cause what is the point of having “doom match”/“free for all” if characters are performing more then the rest
Actually Groot and Jeff combo is pretty good. If you know what you are doing as one or the other. Jeff can keep himself and Groot healed and Groot goes faster. Also gives Jeff a better position to heal the team. I got MVP while being on Groot and I stayed on Groot for the match.
Overwatch had the most innovative thing when the game first launched. It gave you freedom to choose what ever you wanted but it would LITERALLY tell you your team might suck because not enough supports. Vice versa with other positions. Just give them the freedom but also give tips in the game saying hey you have a lot of less of whatever positions are filled.
I think that the game the dev is referring to possibly is Fortnite, with them constantly having some form of tournament running that anyone can hop into and afterwards are then able to just Que into a standard match afterwards. But I could be wrong in that

The problem with Moonlight's ult is that there's no delay what-so-ever. Everyone else has some weaknesses, or delay.

Role queue would absolutely mess with the identity Rivals currently has. Even just the current teamups in the game, I can think of one that's two supports (Jeff and Luna) and one that only includes DPS characters (Magik, Black Panther, Psylocke). I'm much more into having these teamup abilities get shuffled every few months than to ACTUALLY turn Rivals into an Overwatch Clone. It's its own thing right now. That's cool! I don't want that to go away.
Hulk throwing Logan is an old comics staple, it's probably why it's in game, cuz it'd be a fun thing to do... there's a possibility for Thing to do the same with Reed, where Reed would go into a giant pinball where he would get thrown, and bounce around enemies like a pinball
This is the annoying parts about this game, and I guess games in general these days. It’s like people forget it’s a game… I know this is probably your entire life but it’s not a professional sport… it’s a video game that people play for fun. Sometimes a thing is just in the game for fun. So annoying like how come every single thing isn’t optimized to the max and every single ability the best possible ability???
If someone is saying to themselves that they would do better if someone else picked a specific hero, that someone is the one making the mistake. One gets better at a game like this changing the hero YOU play to the situation it calls for.

Ppl really don't understand how diverse this game is. Today alone, I won a game against a 2/2/2 team with 5dps/1tank, and then another game where our team was 4healer/2dps against 2healer/3dps/1tank. Team comp is practically worthless in this game, while character matchup and player skill is truly the king

only problem i have with marvel rivals its that the healing output on supports is insane and at times, it is pointless to com a feeding tank at a 100hp
Depends , if the all team focus the same person, the damage is superior than the heal he can receive, it's all about the good focus and chemistry in the team (sorry if my English is weird, I'm native Spanish)
Storm is one of those characters that really deserves to be overpowered. Moonknight can take a nerfhammer to the cheek and still be playable

I am against role queue but I feel like a system wherein if a team during hero select has no tank or support, the entire team is restricted in choosing dps not unless at least one person chooses a tank and supp. So that there wont be a huge restriction on the roles but still keep the fundamentals of it, so team comp such as 1/3/2, 1/2/3, and the traditional 2/2/2 can be played by players depending on their teams play style.
You are advocating for a role limit system. Specifically a min 1 max 4 in the 6v6 format..

hearing that they have no plans for role q, is music to my ears. Changing the comp or roles as you play a match and need to adjust, is the best feeling ever. I hated role q in OW and I don't want it on Rivals, as it's clear that ppl who do want it, are ppl that can't play multiple roles, nor understand the benefits of not having one.
What I would like to see is maybe placement games for comp or a drop of less than 7 divisions, because man, this is torture. Dropping to silver/gold is such a pain.

12:32 From what I can tell, Mr. Fantastic is meant to be flexible, able to easily go wherever and do whatever the team needs. Need help holding the frontline, he's got the durability to hang in there. Need help defending the backline, he's an excellent anti-dive character. A good Mr. Fantastic is generally gonna be pretty effective in a 1v1 against most characters in my experience, and in team fights he can swing his arms around to hit multiple targets over an area. His main weaknesses are that he's exclusively close-to-mid range, has mediocre DPS outside of inflated state, and lacks mobility without other heroes nearby, but the attributes of his kit allow him to be effective in a broad range of scenarios

I would like to see 2 or 3 stages to the "reloads". A good example is Strange. When you need to "reload" and you go over halfway through the animation, but need to shield, you lose all progress even though he clearly drew some energy from the dark force. Maybe make it so on magical type characters, as their animations play, you're gaining charges. That way, if you get halfway through a Strange "reload", and pop a shield, you get half your magic "magazine" filled
I think it’s important to realise that whilst some characters are very strong (hulk, hela, Hawkeye) it’s because of their enhanced stats or team ups, which rotates our each season - how good will hulk be when he loses 150hp and no longer amps strange/iron man? How good will groot be with 150 hp less?
Whilst some heroes seem to be very strong, the balancing is likely to be seasonal rather than year round. I think the bigger balance concerns are heroes that are strong WITHOUT any benefits or season buffs

Honestly, i havent had an issue with someone picking who they like, and i feel that all the roles are pretty fun so far. I have a handful of characters in each role that i really like, unlike overwatch were i hate dps and healer

I want to see the changes to team ups next season and what that actually all means. A fun idea for one is having peni be an anchor and allow spider man to benefit from her webs (healing, over heal, movement spd, everything she gets). just using her ult making a large area that spider man can benefit from just sounds interesting. (peni is who i like playing, almost lord)

Everyone is OP and i love it, good communication with your team and switching team comp multiple times during the match is can be so rewarding when your team is on the same wave length.
I’m amazed that people adapt to the teams needs most of my games, At the release of overwatch the community just locked their one trick pony all matches.

Edit: Also I think Groot-riding isn't exactly useful because Jeff is faster alone, but he gives jeff some bonus HP which is nice. With a Groot and Luna, jeff can decimate a team. I think the Hulk throw thing is more because Wolverine can't really wall climb. I personally would like to have a venom/jeff teamup but i'm hella biased.
I'm super glad they didn't nerf anything to the ground. There are hard counters for everything in the game. But one thing that really does annoy me is squirrel girl's ult. It's far too strong now. Yeah, they lowered the HP of the ult from 600 to 300. But 99% of players aren't even aware it has HP, and to hit it you need to hit the large squirrel in the middle of the ult. 300 HP for a super fast moving killing wave is still far too much. The thing should have 200 HP max and if not then it should have a much larger hitbox so all the squirrels in the wave should count as damage.
Role queue doesn't really make sense when there are several heroes that can fit into front line and DPS, support and DPS, even front line and support (Magneto).

I couldnt find any info online but I wonder what the dev team size is at NetEase and how it compares to OW? The content cadence seems massive but are we being fair comparing to OW? Im really not sure yet.
In terms of role lock/queue I don't really care about 2-2-2. Being able to queue for a specific role you want to play has benefits that other people don't talk about that simply outweigh balanced team compositions. The largest benefit being having different ranks for your skill level in the different roles. The more I climb as a tank player, the less likely I will ever be to want to Branch out to play the different roles because I am not as good at those roles as I am at tank. For me, it's not about balance. It's about being comfortable playing every role in the game, and being able to learn those roles in a competitive environment while also not feeling like I'm throwing.
Also, I want to push for separate balance patches for quick play and competitive. One of overwatch's bigger problems, in my opinion, was the fact that quit playing competitive were basically the same thing. I think they should be and feel very different.
I really hope they fix hulk to compete with the rest of the characters. Cause what is the point of having “doom match”/“free for all” if characters are performing more then the rest

Actually Groot and Jeff combo is pretty good. If you know what you are doing as one or the other. Jeff can keep himself and Groot healed and Groot goes faster. Also gives Jeff a better position to heal the team. I got MVP while being on Groot and I stayed on Groot for the match.
At this point, the players haven't yet learned to not feed.

Overwatch had the most innovative thing when the game first launched. It gave you freedom to choose what ever you wanted but it would LITERALLY tell you your team might suck because not enough supports. Vice versa with other positions. Just give them the freedom but also give tips in the game saying hey you have a lot of less of whatever positions are filled.

I think that the game the dev is referring to possibly is Fortnite, with them constantly having some form of tournament running that anyone can hop into and afterwards are then able to just Que into a standard match afterwards. But I could be wrong in that
