We all thought we were Millennials at first, but then Gen Z starts growing up and the media puts the cut off years right around the time we were born. It messed everything up. I'm just glad we're not so alone after all.

People born in 95’, 96’ and 97’ (and even earlier) are in a confusing gap of either and neither being millennial or gen z. There’s so many definitions of when they begin and end. We’re just in between generations. As a 96’ liner I’ve just accepted that I’m the youngest of the millennials and oldest of gen z. Best of both worlds I guess.
Personally I think we should just have our own subgroup from 94-98 it's happened before ever heard of the Xenialls who were born in the early 80s? Maybe we should form a support group with them.

I'm a Summer 1996 baby and this year is by far the most confusing year of them all; since technically, if you were born in 1995, you are safely a Millennial, and if you were born in 1997, you are safely a Zoomer. In 1996, you're kind of stuck, since we're in the exact cusp of both generations. We don't fully identify with Gen Z and their new TikTok trends, but at the same time, we get lost when older Millennials start talking about MySpace being the golden years of social media. Thank fully, growing up I had two older sisters who were born in the late 80s and early 90s, so I resonate a lot more with Millennials than Gen Z. I played with Super Nintendo, N64 and the Gameboy Color, Gameboy SP, and original Nintendo DS. I had MSN, AOL and I remember the early years of Facebook. I remember being addicted to Flippo's/Tazos/Pogs in recess (and getting banned because of kids arriving late to class), playing with Yo-Yo's, playing (dueling) with Yu-Gi-Oh/Pokémon cards and watching Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Disney Channel on repeat after school ended until night. My sisters had the Razor Flip Phone (I always wanted one, but my parents said I was too young, ugh!), Polly Pockets, Tamagotchis, easy bake ovens and the original Barbie dolls. Having all that said, I get very lost when older Millennials start talking about where they were or what they were doing during 9/11 or the turning of the Millenia.1996 will always remain the most confusing year, especially for sources (when defining Generations), since have a hard trouble on where to put us at and, to be fair, I can't really blame them.
Sounds like you're almost the exact same age as me. I was born on June 20, 1996. making me just BARELY a summer baby (that was the first day of summer that year). Yeah, I can relate to a lot of that. My boyfriend born in 1985 is an early Millennial (Xennial) and he sometimes talks about stuff that goes over my head (like he might casually make a late 80s or 90s reference that confuses me). For example he had this cute little computer toy as a kid with a voice that sounded like Microsoft Sam that said "please choose an activity" when you powered it on but it was made by Sears. I had no idea Sears had a toy section at one time until he told me about that. He also one time made a reference to the Sears Wishbook and I thought he was making up something funny sounding. Turns out it was this ridiculously huge catalog with 1400 pages. I asked him how he had the time to look through all those pages and he was like "easy, there was no internet back then". I remember 9/11 but to me it was more a scary time that gave me nightmares than a milestone life event. My answer to where I was on 9/11 is "I was in kindergarten bawling my eyes out because I was so scared once I realized what I just saw". I had nightmares for weeks about it (including one about a plane hitting my house and the ceiling falling on me). Do you still have your DS? I still have mine. I always bring either my DS or 3DS to work to play during lunch break (sometimes my GBA when I'm feeling extra nostalgic).

The majority of the world did not have the 9/11 attacks like the US at the stsrt of the 3rd millennium in 2001. But the majority of the world did participated in US’ coalition on Oct. 07th 2001 to tackle Al-Qaeda and the rise terrorism after the wake of the Sept. 11th Attacks. Countries like Canada said ‘no’ to participating in the 2003 Iraq War lead by the US and UK’s coalition to stop Saddem Hussein and the Hussein government. Canada was in the 2008-09 Financial Crisis for all of 6-7 months as well. Besides not having Bush or Obama as leaders. Canada Britian et cetera left 7 years prior to the US when it came to the US-Afghan War(2001-14/2001-21). Also ias born in 96 were 24 when Covid struck in 2020. I was born in 96 and my girlfriend born in 97 calls me a millennial idk how cause most people I talk to at my job happen to be Millennials and they are 1 or 2 years to 5 to 10 years older than me so I can relate a lot to this, I think my girlfriend calls me a Millennial cause most of her Gen Z coworkers call her old and all of them are younger than her so she prefers to talk to me or anyone older than her than anyone more than 2 years younger than her at her job.
Micro-generations should be recognized. I've mostly been amused that the border between the generation y and z has been constantly moved. When I was at school, we were taught that generation z was born in 1996 and onward, later the limit was moved to those born in 1997, then to those born in 1998 and at some point to those born in 2000. In the last news article I read, it was claimed that generation z was born only after Facebook (founded in 2004) and millennials were born on both sides of the year 2000. If the existence of zillenials, or the "generation zero" studied for the first time by The Coca Cola Company in early 2010s, were accepted internationally and not just considered American nonsense, then the problem of the shifting border would be solved.

This is the reason for the problem because people born in the 1990s have a different mindset than those born in the 1980s and 2000s settling somewhere between these two (for example, gen Y were teenagers when 9/11 happened and gen Z were kids when smartphones became common, but those of us born in the 1990s were kids when 9/11 happened and teenagers when smartphones became common.

Born in 1996, we're the poster child birthyear for Zillennial. 1993-1998 is kind of its own subgroup. It's kind of like 1980-1985 has Xennial. My boyfriend was born in 1985 and although that's only 11 years, sometimes I feel a weird kind of generation gap with him. I remember when watching ET there was this toy that said "please choose an activity" in a robot voice and he said he had one of those toys as a kid and asked me if I had one and I was bewildered like "uh.....no, what even is that thing?" He says it was some talking computer thing from Sears. I don't remember Sears having a toy section. It's weird because according to many demographic lists me and him are both Millennials (1980-1996 are the years listed), 90% of the time we don't notice the age difference but there's that 10% of time. On the other hand, I can't fully relate to Gen Z. I graduated from college in 2018 and can't relate to any of their memes about Zoom classes. I don't quite remember a world before the internet but I _do_ remember a world before the internet was ubiquitous in our everyday lives.

I was born in 96 and my girlfriend born in 97 calls me a millennial idk how cause most people I talk to at my job happen to be Millennials and they are 1 or 2 years to 5 to 10 years older than me so I can relate a lot to this, I think my girlfriend calls me a Millennial cause most of her Gen Z coworkers call her old and all of them are younger than her so she prefers to talk to me or anyone older than her than anyone more than 2 years younger than her at her job.

Micro-generations should be recognized. I've mostly been amused that the border between the generation y and z has been constantly moved. When I was at school, we were taught that generation z was born in 1996 and onward, later the limit was moved to those born in 1997, then to those born in 1998 and at some point to those born in 2000. In the last news article I read, it was claimed that generation z was born only after Facebook (founded in 2004) and millennials were born on both sides of the year 2000. If the existence of zillenials, or the "generation zero" studied for the first time by The Coca Cola Company in early 2010s, were accepted internationally and not just considered American nonsense, then the problem of the shifting border would be solved.
Facts I’ma Millennial and grew up in the different Era of the Original Millennial I grew up on the 90s side of the millennial and I grew up In the Early 2000s watching classic rap dvds and I had two-way pagers and the 2000s babies wasn’t here yet when 9 1 1 hit it went sky rocked in 04 I was 7 and had an pager and an Flip Phone and plus I grew up in the Millennial generation 1996 babies are the same generation as me gen z should be 2000-2018
And Millennials are 1990-99
And gen alpha are 2010-2025
And ima whole different Era when dvds was invented in the 2000s we had rap DVDs and baggy clothes that was my era my era ended in 2011 I was born 1997 ima Millennial I had an Adult mindset when I was born 1997

This is the reason for the problem because people born in the 1990s have a different mindset than those born in the 1980s and 2000s settling somewhere between these two (for example, gen Y were teenagers when 9/11 happened and gen Z were kids when smartphones became common, but those of us born in the 1990s were kids when 9/11 happened and teenagers when smartphones became common.

I was born in 1996 and I've been called a millennial my whole life until I look at my high school yearbook and realize I'm a Zillennial because of how Gen Z most ppl my age were including me in high school and even in college.

Born in 1996, we're the poster child birthyear for Zillennial. 1993-1998 is kind of its own subgroup. It's kind of like 1980-1985 has Xennial. My boyfriend was born in 1985 and although that's only 11 years, sometimes I feel a weird kind of generation gap with him. I remember when watching ET there was this toy that said "please choose an activity" in a robot voice and he said he had one of those toys as a kid and asked me if I had one and I was bewildered like "uh.....no, what even is that thing?" He says it was some talking computer thing from Sears. I don't remember Sears having a toy section. It's weird because according to many demographic lists me and him are both Millennials (1980-1996 are the years listed), 90% of the time we don't notice the age difference but there's that 10% of time. On the other hand, I can't fully relate to Gen Z. I graduated from college in 2018 and can't relate to any of their memes about Zoom classes. I don't quite remember a world before the internet but I _do_ remember a world before the internet was ubiquitous in our everyday lives.
