i just finished black skin, white masks and came to this video to review. Im realizing that I much prefer this translation over the translation by richard philcox. Thank you for providing your insight into this text. In my translation, the poetic nature in fanons writing is lost.

Great. I like this translation as well. Thank you and welcome.

Hello Professor, It is my understanding that Fanon didn't actually train as a psychoanalyst. He trained as a psychiatrist, but never actually attended an analytic institute or received formal training. Thank you.

Thank you. Fanon finished his education and residency at the University of Leon in France and then elected to serve in Algeria. His training was in psychiatry and medicine. But it wasn’t pure clinical psychiatry as we know it now and probably involved therapy along with medication.

If you have time, can you please explain/expand on the concept of the two different Fanons that you mention? I have not heard of this difference from others, who have taught on Fanon.

Okay. I will do that but if you follow the teaser in the lecture, it comes up within the first minute. That would take it to my introductory lecture on Fanon. I think I explain that there. If you feel like it still needs more attention, then let me know and I will try to record a separate lecture.

Thank you. Fanon is talking about resistance. But I will see if I can record a video when I have some time in the future.
