I just purchased my cover stitch machine and this video was very helpful. It also cleared up some misconceptions I had about threading my serger as well.
I discovered your videos while considering buying my first coverstitch machine. Because of your videos I just bought one! You answered all my questions and I truly appreciate it!
I'm glad you decided to get a coverstitch machine! Having one will be a game changer in having a professional look. If you bought the Brother 2340 and encounter any issues, you can always private message me and I'll help.
even though ive had my coverstitch machine well over a year I have not gotten the chance to use it enough to become better familiar with its watching your videos and others are a great help.thanks!
I highly recommend anyone that has purchased this machine to watch your videos on how to use it. I purchased this machine 3 years ago and it sat in the box. I finally opened it read the manual started it and ran into issues. In the 10 minutes it took me to watch this video all of my issues were solved. The instructions in the manual were not clear to me on starting and stopping as your instructions were. Thank you so much I really appreciate the time you took to record this and I look forward to practicing and referencing your videos along the way. Have a wonderful one!
I’m glad the video helped!! I’m even happier that you finally got your machine out of the box and am using it! You’re going to be amazed at how the garments are going to look!!!!!
Thank Goodness for your educational videos to the coverstitch and sewing community. I watched all your videos before placing my order for the CV3550. I am petite and hem almost everything I own. This machine is going to be a game changer. Thank you for all your help. During this pandemic it is impossible to get any personal assistance from the dealer. Now to practice, practice practice..😊
Congrats on getting a coverstitch!! It makes a world of difference adding a professional look to your garment. If you have questions or issues you can always PM me.
Thread twisted at the needles is my biggest problem because I can't see the twist easily. That's my go ck first when I'm having problems. Like you said these machines are so simple and reliable.
Yes, anyone having stitching issues, should look at the needles and whether they have the thread in between the disks to working those areas. I occasionally get twisted thread at the needle too, that's because I'm in a hurry to get the garment done and onto the next one. Luckily it doesn't happen to often!!!
You’re welcome! There is another area you have to watch, I experienced it the other day and that is making sure the thread does not get caught in the back of the thread guide just above the needles. Somehow my left thread kept breaking and I looked at everything and finally found that it got way behind that guide. First time it happened but it is something to watch for.
@jeanette I love your videos - they definitely helped me getting going on this machine. It worked really well for two projects, now I am getting a clunking sound and the right needle thread is breaking. I have been trying to rethread and I've changed my settings to what you recommend (differential one dot past +1, stitch length 4). Do you have any suggestions? Thank you so much!
I love your videos! What thread do you use? I've been using maxi-lock serger thread, and the needle tension has to be set all the way at 8! I can hardly pull the thread through the tension disks even when I move the lever to the side. Am I using the wrong thread for coverstitch?
I just opened my 2340cv. My manual has universal Schmetz 130/705H on the machine and those are what the manual says to use? Right now I’m in the process of threading. I’m using maxi lock on the looper. But I want to use a regular spool of thread on the needles matching my garment. I’m trying to figure out how the sit on the thread holder. Do you have a picture?
Sorry I just saw this. Did you get it figured out? If you’re going to be sewing knits you need to b get needles that have SUK on them, or use Schmetz 80/12 sharp aka microtex needles. Also with using spool thread, you must get skipped stitches. I recommend using serger thread.
Does the SUK refer to ballpoint? Mostly I sew with knits! I have been told by my dealer that universal art for both knit and woven? He demos sergers, etc at their family store. Also is ballpoint and stretch the same? Sorry I have so many questions. I have been practicing with the needles that came with it. My biggest t hangup so far is removing the fabric. I keep watching your video on that. Until I master that, I can’t use it on a project.
@@vernabeckstead5148 SUK is for knits and yes they are ballpoint. I use Organ brand or Schmetz 90/14 or 80/12 sharps (aka microtex) . Getting the release of fabric is pretty easy but practicing always helps in anything you do to avoid tearing out, I don’t like practicing that!!!!
It depends, most of the time I use regular serger thread but occasionally when that thread gives me issues in the looper I change to the maxilock stretch
Thank you. I have learned so much from your videos. You have taught me to always do a practice run on fabrics and check tension settings. Thank you so much.
would you please give me the detailed info about the needles you prefer for Brother Coverstitch. i tried to video your hand showing the package but could not read the last line..what i do see is 10 pcs. HAX 1. 130/705H then it gets blurry: i think could be 15 X 1. then a tiny row 90. 14. ?? X/ 6P. please advise. thanks!
Hello Jeanette! Do you know if there is a reason that the threads would not stay in their little tunnel on the metal thread guide (before going behind the little metal bar and into the needle)? My left needle stitches are sloppy, and I can see that after I've threaded them (taking care to get in between all the tension disks, etc...!), once I start sewing the threads pop out of those little tunnels and twist together. I've rethreaded it probably 10 times today and it keeps happening. Any thoughts as to why? I also removed the thread guide w/ a screwdriver and put it back in. Thank you in advance for any input!
@@jeanetteweger5518 Wow, you're fast! OK, so I solved my first problem- I was not sandwiching the thread between the 2 metal parts of the tunnel (sorry, I don't know how to add photos here or I would!) so they weren't really in the tunnels- user error. Now my threads and stitches are looking fine- however, I am still having an issue: at the very beginning of my stitching, there is about 1/4" of stitching that immediately unravels once I've sewn it, before I've even removed the fabric from the machine. Does that make sense? Again, a picture would be helpful if I knew how to do that... but no other skipped stitches, and the needles are new. Is this typical? Thank you!! I'm so enjoying your videos.

I just watched a video from a sewing machine company n she said by lifting the lever on the machine releases the disc tension for threading etc
Not on this machine. Brother does make a serger that works that way but this coverstitch machine does not.
