    This is one of the most under-rated Megadeth songs in the catalog and one of my all time favorites. Do 'Go To Hell' next.

      Go To Hell. I never hear anyone talk about this one. By far my favorite of theirs since seeing it in Bogus Journey, and immediately asking for the sountrack, when I was like 10. That Faith No More song (Perfect Crime) os killer too. Also, Tommy the Cat from Primus. Actually the whole soundtrack is pretty awesome lol

    Marty's solos were ahead of its time, I don't think even the 90s Shrapnel guitar hero guys could even match his intensity in this album, it's chaotic, dissonant, bluesy angry yet all of these notes fit together, stroke of genius

      marty was a shrapnel guitar hero though...

      Well, yes and no. Chris Broderick is no slouch by any means and Kiko is a jedi but yes, Marty is Marty and I think he was the ultimate Megadeth fit.

    Skin 'o my teeth has a sick ass marty solo. Has all the elements, crazy blues licks, weird chromatic nonsense, fast legato, giant bends, a key change, I love it. One of my favorites

    • @spotty54
      @spotty54 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The one in Family Tree is amazing too, like, how can you be so tasteful to do that bend?

    • @drums5050
      @drums5050 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spot on. He goes from gear 1 to 6 in a period of time, ensuring he does all that makes Marty , Marty . So rock n roll, so punchy, so melodic, so rocky and metal , while those runs and the key change, BAM he gets in your psych each and every time.

  • @Thetimrobertson
    @Thetimrobertson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Marty is just on a tier of his own in terms of that genius combination of shred and melodic ideas.

  • @jbakerman6619

    In measure 5, beats 1-3 each descend one more note at the end of the beat: C♯-D♯-E-F♯-G♯-A-G♯-F♯-E, F♯ etc. (6 32nds, 32nd triplet) Also the note before that lick is a 1/2 step prebend from C natural. (Eventually the vibrato goes below C♯.)

  • @tllaw

    @thecommenter9267 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most people don't know this but one of the key factors that makes Marty's sound unique is his strange right hand. The flexed curvature is basically a modified form of the rare Gypsy Jazz style picking, which was invented to create a louder, more aggressive pick attack. He leverages a massive downward pickslant and uses circular thumb picking to get around the string change issue (for example when the pick is below the string and he needs to move to the string above). You can't reach as much consistent speed output with Gypsy style picking as you can with traditional picking but you get MUCH more power. Think of it like the difference between an AK47 and a metronome. AK47 shoots extra fast and clean in short bursts but then soon gets out of control if you keep shooting without rest, but the sound is dynamic and powerful while a metronome maintains consistent high speed, but the sound is rather weak and mechanical.

    Ben, you totally rule, man. I'd really like to see you as a lead guitarist in Megadeth.
    There's a lot of "covers" of legendary solos on YT but only you can play on Marty's level or, what's even more important, above it.
    @Megadeth please note this.

    I'm impressed by how good you got the 8-string to sound on your intro.. Maybe I've been listening to too much Animals as Leaders, but most 8-string stuff sounds incomprehensible because it's played so fast with very small tonal range and bootloads of distortion to make it sound more eviler.. it just sounds like mushy peas to me! Good job, Uncle B! 👍

  • @douglaslaidlaw5961
    @douglaslaidlaw5961 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A hidden gem is Marty’s solo on the album Youthanasia, “The Killing Road.” It’s a long solo that sounds like an alternate take of the solo to “Symphony of Destruction” and even “Ashes in Your Mouth” because he establishes a quick melodic part before unleashing his flurry of smooth, exotic lines.
