In South Florida we call it "Fumble". If you catch the ball it's your bat, if you drop the ball, it's a fumble and same batter continues to hit. We also play with a pitcher who's not allowed to bat unless he/she gives position up for full game. Same rules if ball hits a car, wall, tree etc but doesn't touch the ground and caught, it's your bat.
