It sounds absolutely accurate; though I’d say most doctors would never prescribe opiates for akathisia, even if it saved a life.

The insane chemical terror torture!!
I survived this for more than three years. It is torture. Hell on earth. I don’t even have words to describe the mental and physical suffering. I walked up to 20 miles a day some days. I took no other drugs than klonopin for five months. The Akathisia came after discontinuation of the benzo. I was on suic watch by my family for about three years. I made it through so there is hope. It is gone and has not returned. FYI, recent surgery, opiates and zofran brought it back with a vengeance while taking those meds. Stopped them, it’s gone again. I’d never touch an opiate. And yes, time is the answer to it leaving. I know too many on mmj and opiates who are spinning their wheels. The body wants off all the poisons so it can heal and achieve homeostasis.
That’s interesting that it came back after surgery. I too had it come back after a 2nd surgery within 2 weeks for thyroid removal. No problem with the first one other than some nausea which I told them about. I always suspected they gave me zofran during the 2nd operation . Luckily for me, it resolved within a day or so. But, and I’m sure you can appreciate this, here I was fresh out of surgery, middle of the night and I’m pacing the halls of the hospital like a madman. Impossible to sit still. Impossible to explain it to anyone. Nurses wanted to give me tramadol and more zofran. I politely refused. I had been through a brutal taper from benzos and years before that, I had a months long bout of akathisia. I know the answer is not more medication.
How do I guarantee that’s what’s happening to me and also how do I figure out what’s causing it?
And then, how do I heal it and make sure it never comes back? How do you guys function like this? Or maybe mine is different! I’m sooo confused 😭
Did you have head pressure with all this?
I've actually met people who were stuck in severe akathisia and morphine brought them out of it. They also needed to taper off the opioids but it has been shown to work. But yeah if you're already doing better then I've also heard opioids can bring it back, especially in large doses that cause a high.
That's putting it very mild! What about the mental terrors? If someone hasn't experienced this, it's impossible to describe.
I’ll never forget the akathisia. It felt like my body had electricity running through my veins and brain. I’ll also never forget when I took my first benzo that calmed it down and made my life bearable for a little while until I became dependent on them within a month. They had me on Lex and it only made things worse! What an awful time. 2 years off now.
I went to my doctor in complete despair last year and actually asked to try an opiate; "we do not give opiates for that"; I still survived that year of horror, but they did not help.
In addition to the inner restlessness and mild akathisia, I have the feeling of terror 24/7 after coming off of benzodiazepines over 2 years ago. I barely leave my house. Was on klonopin for almost 20 years. My life is pretty much over. Barely surviving.

The same. Klonopin 25+ years. 17 months off. Can't work and barely leave the house. My life as I once knew it is over. I hope we get better eventually? Hugs to you both
I was on Kolonipin also for 30 years. A physiatrist gave me 4 weeks to taper off!! Should of been 2 years. I won’t accept my life is over. Been off 16 months, I have hope we all will heal and be a more compassionate person.
I feel your pain. I feel my life is ruined! I hope and pray we get relief! Hang in there, I believe this is happening FOR US not TO US. There's some kind of lesson to be learned here, trust in the process of our life path. We will come through!❤❤❤
19 months off after a forced ct after 15 yr prescription. Exactly the same plus severe insomnia and inability to rest or calm nervous system at all. I may sleep 2 hours every few nights. I don’t understand how I’m still going. Nothing at all helps
It’s the mental terror and feelings of insanity.. the horrific intrusive thoughts and it being so unbearable that you are convinced death is the only relief. Nothing on this earth like it.

Sounds very accurate. I don’t longer move around. The effect of moving is so small that it doesn’t make a big difference. 10 minutes of shaking and stretching 4 times a day is better where I’m at now
Thank you so much for everything you guys are doing. Akathisia from benzo withdrawal was the only thing I have ever experienced in my life that made me contemplate suicide. I am so thankful that I gave myself the TIME that I needed to finally get through it and over it. I haven't had akathisia in months now (I jumped off on July 13th 2022). I hope I never experience it again.
What benzo was u on ? And how long for ? Did u have a long taper ? And congratulations I’m glad things are looking better for u
@@theresacarroll6671 ativan for 2 years. Valium for half a year before that. My taper was about two months in total. I was limited by supply unfortunately. Thank you :)

It can best be described, when I went through it, as your soul trying to get out of your body. Yea.....it's THAT bad
Worst symptom I’ve ever experienced in benzo WD. Unbearable torture. I am terrified to take medication even though I’m in a lot of pain from several injuries. I don’t want akathisia to come back.
Over 5 years now… no clue how I’ve survived this long. Oh yeah, I’m spending a fortune on alternative treatment. I was ripped off all my meds in 2018 in favor of another cocktail for “bipolar 2”. Uh, Latuda isn’t even for bipolar 2! And I’ve never been psychotic, manic, hypomanic. I have CPTSD from several situations where I was held hostage by abusers. I get that CPTSD looks like bipolar I guess. But how am I bipolar if I’ve never had any of the symptoms of bipolar? 30 years almost of being on meds that have never really helped. Bipolar symptoms do not happen to me at all. Anyway, so I came off 8 meds either too fast or just stopped cold turkey. Coming off Latuda too fast after having Akathisia for years made things worse. This was done last year and I was off by November of 2022. When I complained about worse Akathisia during the “taper”, the guy told me to just stop at 20mg. I now have new symptoms like common withdrawal but also seem to have developed TD and dystonia. I cannot stop grinding my teeth all day long. My neck, it hurts all the time. It’s constantly just rolling around trying to get comfortable. I hold my head in weird positions now. Headaches. The doc must have thought I got Akathisia from Latuda I guess and just ripped me off. I can’t make sense of it otherwise. Maybe he was told it was ok to rip someone off who’s been taking it for years, 20mg each month? I remember when I did a follow up and he tried to gaslight me. He thought I had Covid when I was describing nausea and vomiting. I’ve got a long list of new symptoms I’ve never had before. He blew me off and when I told him the Akathisia was a lot worse, he was like shocked. Uh, I tried to tell you! Yes very accurately. It's causing severe SI for me. It's a symptom that is assigned with SI.

I’ve been experiencing this for the past 6 months after coming off suboxone/opiates. It’s a complete nightmare!
Well done on getting off of them. That takes a lot of courage. Do u mind me asking how long you were on opiate s/ suboxone for before stopping?
One thing that was not touched upon was what I term ‘mental AKA’…that is a huge factor for me. I understand it is not included in the definition of Akathisia, but it is a major component for many. Could you expand upon this is another video? Thank you for your contribution to this cause.
Who is teaching you the term “mental akathisia”? What you are speaking about is called “inner akathisia” if you suffer in the groups. The term “mental” is as bad is “agitated dysphoria”. Those terms will make it more likely you’ll wind up in a psyche unit.

I have had mental akathisia or extreme terror, on top of the inner restlessness for over two years after coming off a benzodiazepine. It is the worst feeling in the world. There’s nothing that can relieve my symptoms. Feels like my life is over.
@@22sevier This is what I have. It has been over a year, and I am still tapering. I have had 16-17 hour days of pacing, also. That has lessened. It is the ‘mental’ AKA that is my most severe symptom. I feel your pain and suffering. You’re not alone. It feels like life is over…but, it isn’t. We do heal. ❤️
I have so much sympathy for people going through these symptoms of akathisia. I have had problems with opiate addiction in the past and the worst withdrawal symptom by far was akathisia. It's like being tortured in your own body. Methadone was a lifesaver, enabled me to escape having to keep scoring drugs from sketchy and unreliable dealers. I could do normal life again and not have to worry about the awful feelings coming on a few hours later after scoring and feeling only ok.
I still have sleep issues and my mind won’t turn off at night. My nervous system feels stuck. I also noticed that sounds bother me so much more and seem so much louder. When I first went through withdrawals even the sounds of the buttons on the atm machine were too loud. Anyone else experience this?
Going through the same thing, my mind wont turn off at night, and sounds are exacerbate. Really difficult to deal with

Is completely normal when ur nervous system is damaged. I go through this alot. In fact went through if last night when the neighbour was snoring. It wasn't too loud but you become hyperfocussed on it to the point u can't think of anything else.

Why does it take so much time to go for some people?
I get that the brain has to rebalance, I don’t get the timelines; years is ridiculous.
Wait a minute- I had those thoughts BEFORE I went on Xanax not after. I’m confused. I mean I believe you - but I have been described by other people for years & even my non psych doctors that I worry about every detail. I expect nothing but perfection of me all the time. Xanax allowed me to RELAX from the need to be perfect.
Since it’s benzodiazepine withdrawal, my dopamine is broken. Also my serotonin I am more prone now, and I am feeling very bad addictive behaviors. I have watched a Nother video on TH-cam of a veteran that went through the same thing where he ended up being drawn towards addiction. It seems like the benzos wipe out or break the dopamine receptors. What would you do in this case? It’s akathisia also related to dopamine.
My akathisia lessened after my ct when I stopped thc. Thc gives me a little dopamine then I get the tremors and anxiety again. 🍄 did the same thing as did IV ketamine one session. I find that mega dose b1 helps some I take a lot of supplements. I lost all my sleep when they put me on Viibryd. Before I got ctd. My doctor thought akathesia was mania.
Does it heal and when?
I’m still tapering off Diaz and i was 9 different antidepressants before I was dropped down too low in dose of Diaz when I wanted to come off of it, antidepressants don’t agree with me so what do I do dr ? I have no way in getting any help drs ignore me and I’ve decided to go down the natural way like maybe even trying lemon balm, I wish I wax able to see u and talk to u because I’ve been house bound since early 2021 I live in Melbourne Australia and my Psychiatrist just ignores me rings me sits on the phone for only 5 to 10 min and try’s to push other benzos on to me, I’m at a loss I’m at 5mg of Diaz and suffering with histamine intolerance due to it all too,
Does Mirtazapine help with akathisia?

I’m asking a question for a friend that’s going through this. They suddenly stopped their SSRI and antipsychotic suddenly 14 months ago they have all these issues they’re not getting too much better they’re not on any current medication‘s, but stable. Is there any herbs or supplements they could take other opiates and any other advice, other than Time? Also, is there some people that do not ever recover Dr josef?

I have experienced this and found a little relief with Jin Shin Jyutsu using point 17 which rules the nervous system (pinky side of wrist) and point 25 (the bones you sit on) and other points. Info is online. This probably saved my life.
I've cut my intake of temazepam from 50 to 60mg per day to 30mg per day. I wake up restless at night and can't get comfortable. I'm determined to get off them but find there are no support groups etc. Benzos seem to be the forgotten drug in this regard.
Temazapam 30 mg. was prescribed by sleep Doctor after sleep study showed 130 arousals with 4 hours sleep. Diagnosed insomnia due to an snri paradoxical effect. Temazapam is one of the best compared to klonapin or valium. We need to support each other through this dark tunnel. I wish you the very best ❤❤❤
Mine manifests differently all the time and is all over the place. Sometimes it’s buzzing that makes me anxious especially when it’s in my stomach area because it causes tightening and pit of the stomach anxious feeling. But more often I get it sort of focally. Like some of my muscles feel tickly, crawly, tense, itchy, uncomfortable. It travels all over, sometimes it’s in my calves, knees, thighs, buttocks, lower back, mid back, upper back, biceps, lower arms. It just travels like this. Any one has it similarly?
Mine was originally from psych meds but after being almost healed it got way way way worse after a hormonal drug followed by an antibiotic.
i got Akathisia and dystonia from metoclopramide literally used for nausea despite being an atypical anti-psychotic

If you don't believe in Hell you will after you experience Benzo withdrawal.. By far the worse torture a person could imagine
38 years paxil and xanax. One week hospital and then goodbye
Akathisia does NOT have to include moving around, or moving any body part.
Akathisia is a MOVEMENT disorder.
Yes to opiates...I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone...severe agitation and panic all from a year long slow taper off horrible Seroquel and completely off Tramadol for a year ... let's not forget that Tramadol has a SSRI and SNRI component...My doctor never informed me of this nor knew how to taper...pure Evil!
How long were you taking tramadol, and at what doses?
@@kellyherrin Hi, I was taking Tramadol for a chronic pain condition for 4 years...it never helped the pain but it was all I had...I was on 50mg three times a day...my doctor never told me that it had antidepressants in it...which has made the withdrawal ( self taper) last almost a year now... which has included major anxiety and nightmares...funny how the chronic pain has decreased too... Thanks for the comment...🍀
It's so upsetting that patients are prescribed meds like this, without having any idea of what they are getting into. That is not informed consent. It's poisoning.
