  • This video is a review of the AEgooL smart wifi RGB strip lights. In this video, I will explain how it is set up and how it integrates with the Magic Home Pro app, Alexa and IFTTT. This product surprised me with it's in-app functionality as well as its seamless integration with ALexa and IFTTT.

    Thanks for including the Alexa integration to your tutorial as I've been having a hard time getting Alexa to recognize my LED strip as a new devices. So many reviews don't even mention Alexa. You at least gave me the idea that it might be named something different in my Alexa app than it is named in the Magic Home app. At least that's a start. Thanks again

    Thanks Drew ... Really liked this video. In it you mentioned that you can flash the controller with Samsung Smart Things. What's the procedure for doing this? Additionally, you used IFTT applets for turning on the Aegool led string with open/close switches via the Smart Things network. I guess my question is: do I need to edit the controller to have it work with the IFTT applet. I'm new to this and enjoy setting up my home automation. Your video is great

    Thanks for this video it grab my attention so I bought the led strip. I want to have it come on using SmartThings and the echo dot when I ask alexa to watch a movie. My current setup when using this prompt my lights dim to 10% my TV kicks on changing to the correct hdmi setting and my surround sound turns on.
    I can't seem to figure out how to get the led to turn and replace my lamp lightning?
    Any ideas? I tried to go through ifttt but never could get past the st area because there wasnt anything to choose?
    Sorry, I know this was long but hopefully you can shed some light on this!(pun intended)

Since I do not need the lighting strips can you make any recommendations on brands to look for? There are a lot of the these that are the same but rebranded names as well many that only work with specific apps.

    Andrew the reason Magic Home didn't change the name the Office Lights was that you needed to make sure you updated the Authorization to Amazon or IFTTT. Go to Magic Home in the Menu (top left) go to Device Manager look for your light and if it has the original name change it from the menu and go to Remote Settings and make sure it logs in correctly. You want a check mark in the box on the right under Remote Status. After its verified and all OK your particular name will appear correctly in Amazon Alexa app or the IFTTT app. And I bet the name time you go look your name will be there as well. I believe Alexa doesn't really care about the names it uses the another ID I suspect the Hardware Address or MAC address. So you can change the name and it will be updated on all the connected devices such as Amazon Echo.

    Okay I have a question, I'm using trying to buy some RGB but I need extra strips here's the problem.
    I'm getting Govee smart WiFi led strip lights, 5050 Led 12v 16ft with 3 copper ends for connecting extra strips.
    Since I'll be doing corner I have some connector pieces that turn a 90° angle or corner to make it easier. The connector pieces tho have 4 copper prongs.
    The next set of Led lights is Govee Led lights 32ft ( Not smart, so no music stuff and all that ) it also has 4 copper connector prongs.
    So the question, can I connect the Smart strip that has 3 prongs to go in a 4 prong connector ( so I'll have a extra copper prongs that's not attached to anything on the strip just the paper ) that will connect the new ( not smart strip ) that has 4 copper pieces. And if I play music the Smart light flashes with the music. Will the the strip that doesn't come with that feature flash also because it's just a carry on of the original strip or since it's missing that feature it'll just glow while the first strip flashes to the music.

    A quick dumb question.. if you want to control more than one area for example your office, tv and your bed where you have installed led strips. You should have more than one wifi controller connected to each led strip to control all of them simultaneously or you can use only one wifi controller and idk buy an extender to connect all three of them?

    Nice video! Do you know how well it works with Amazon/Alexa routines? ie: Its on 100% White and I say “Alexa, watch a movie.” My entertainment system will automatically switch everything over to the Xbox to watch a movie.(Via Logitech harmony) And turns off the overhead lights.(Via Z-Wave switch) Do you know if it would also be able to turn this to orange at 30%(or any color/brightness combo)?

    Great review, thanks! Do you have a recommendation on a kit that can be used for in cabinet lighting? I’m going to be installing lighting in 3 glass cabinets that are approximately 10 feet away from each other. The cabinets will be approximately 30” wide x 18” high. I’d like to avoid having to run wires in the ceiling and walls and I would like it to have wireless technology. They do not need to be waterproof. TIA!

    • @TaylorTech
      @TaylorTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, in order for any kind of light to work it needs to have power there. So if there's power there already, you could really just get 3 light strips like these with 3 different controllers. If there's no power in there, then you would need to run wires in the wall regardless... If you do go that route then you could get extensions for the light strip so that you only need 1 controller. hope that helps!

I was thinking about some kind of battery operated wall switch that will work via IR or WIFI. BTW I have no neutral wire on my existing wiring to hook smart switch. In that case, there are a couple options, the more reliable one would be to get a hub (Smartthings, for example) and get a smart button (zwave protocol, battery powered) and connect that to ifttt to control your lights. Or something like flic (flic.io) I haven't used it, but it looks like it'll connect to ifttt and you could set up an applet to control your lights (hope that helps!)

    Anyone know of an LED WI-FI controller app that can synch with music more accurately than the Magic Home Pro app? It's still cool but there's a bit of lag. I'm also wondering if there's an app with a rolling light feature, kind of like the lights around a movie poster in the front of a cinema. Doesn't seem like there are many good apps for this on the Google play store.

    if you get the lights flashing a pattern... can you then turn off the tablet and have it continue doing the pattern?
    I want to mount RGB strips on an RC model aircraft and have them sequencing through colors. Should be able to provide 12V regulated easily enough.

    I have this very same one and the app failed me and i gave up after about 20-30 attempts over 3 days. The thing is, it is simply the app (both magic home and magic home pro on Android... Might try my old iPad to see if its a platform related issue). I can get the hardware to connect to my home WiFi but the app then loses all connectivity to it. My PC can see it and I've been able to send it TCP packets to change colour. I paid £40 for this kit so a bit miffed AEGool are charging far less in US since this was shipped by Amazon under AEGool's retail name from here in the UK. They also advertise this kit as RGBW which is completely incorrect.

    Nice review. In the description it's state'sWorking Voltage:DC5-28V
    Output Channel:Can be used 3 channel
    Output Current:RGB,4A*3
    Max. Power:4AX3X12V=144W
    So if I input 24v I will only get 12v out..?

    • @TaylorTech
      @TaylorTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +VIPvog I believe so yes, if you had a higher amp rating, then you'd get a higher watt output. But I don't suggest putting too many amps thru these controllers

    • @VIPvog

      TaylorTech thanks for the response. I understand amps, voltage and watts. I have some longer runs that I have my milights running off of a 24v power source and 24v rgbw led strips. I was just wondering if whatever your input voltage is, it would output the same . Or if you input 24v it would step it down to 12v?

    I got 20 meters of led strip and I want to control them all with 1 IR Controller. Anyone knows what what controller I should get (and maybe a well fit psu) or could this controller do the trick?
    I got strips of 5050 SMD with every strip 5 meters long.

    • @TheRealSweedie
      @TheRealSweedie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a strong enough power source it should work to just hook them into each other. 12V will only power 10 meters properly. May need to get two wifi controllers and two 12V power sources for it to work properly. You can add both strips individually in the app, but control them together if you want.

    Thanks Drew. What's your opinion, should I flash this to work directly with smartthings or stick with the iftt? Would the response be quicker?

    • @TaylorTech
      @TaylorTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lucky Olsen they changed the flashing chip to be much harder. They're not using the esp8266 anymore. So flashing is much harder. I actually failed trying. Flashing it would result in faster response times. But ifttt is easier...

    So basically what you used to make the LED stripe alexa supported is that white "wifi" box.
    So in reality, I can just buy that white wifi box and connect it to any led strip to get that same result. Correct?

    • @TaylorTech
      @TaylorTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct. Assuming the box you get is the same configuration as the RGB strip. (RGB, RGBW, RGBWW) and the same voltage and type.

    • @mike212916
      @mike212916 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ohh thanks for the quick tip, i was just searching dhgate.com and in the listing they said thing like "RGB/ RGBW magic home wifi led controller". Could it be nowadays the controller is smart enough to handle either one?
      And then for the voltage it said things like 9-12v. So it sounds like i have to have an LED stripe that is 12v correct? it wont work with 5v led.

    • @TaylorTech
      @TaylorTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your controller is RGBW, then RGB lights will work on it. But if the controller is RGB, then it won't have an input for the W (white) wire.
      For the voltage, most strips are 5V
