I don't see why you can't pull with immolate, pre drop magma totem, shadow cleave &fireblast when the pack reaches you. Like you say "no its not me or my skill level, its the build" but you've been pulling by just walking up to mobs... Like you can't complain about threat gen when you're just not using your abilities.
For real, a tank like that should have Battle Cultist: Firebrand, Blaze and either Firestorm, Scorched Ground or Dancing Flames. Or Fearing Fire if you still lack threat somehow.
nah fam, ive tried spell casting fire build and even with 200% threat and talents, spells just don't produce enough threat vs warrior skills. i can just spam thunder clap as a warrior and hold aggro, but as a spell cast tank, i have to spam every single ability AND waste taunts just to do what warriors can do in 1 button.
@@Farrowstrike Yeah, the non-holy spell damage tanks only work if they have tons of threat modifiers like Corrupted Bear Form or Stormhammer. So, really we just have shadow bear, chain lightning and paladin tanks with spell damage.
Do you have Thick Hide in the BM tree? It works regardless of whether you have a pet or not, all armor types and all stances/forms. In my opinion it gives a valuable amount of armor for the talents.

@Mcdoubles i don't play ascension but i watch your videos. I have seen in the videos that loot drops from raids and raids quests happen differently in ascension so i am not sure if this is an option. In a previous video of yours i saw some of the AQ loot was dropping out side of AQ during an event you were part of months ago. Those loots were AQ20/40 items and Cenarion Circle AQ quest rewards items dropping from monster kills. In Classic WoW AQ 40 there is the Druid Armor set called The "Genesis Raiment". it is a 5 piece set of armor with all 5 stats, spell power crit and a set bonus with +15 defense. again i am not sure if and how those items are itemized in ascension but it may be an option for you. They had higher item level then the dungeon sets so more armor and stats per slot. in classic they are item level 78/81 and 88 for the chest. at least the 3 piece set bonus is directly useful for your goals. Summary Total Strength 67 Agility 63 Stamina 97 Intellect 95 Spirit 44 Armor 982 Spell penetration 10 Damage done by spells 122 Set Bonuses Wearing more pieces of this set will convey bonuses to your character. 3 pieces: Increased Defense +15. 3 pieces: +150 Armor. 5 pieces: Reduces the cooldown of Rebirth by 10 minutes. Maybe this is something that can help.
talents for casters you may want to look at. The mage talent for 6% spell hit is cheap at 3 talent points. shaman - restoration - Natures Guidance x3 for 3% spell and 3% melee hit shaman - elemental - eye of the storm x3 chance when you are crit hit by strike or spell to gain focused casting for 6 s. 100 reduction lost casting time for being hit. Mage - Frost - Elemental precision x3 for 6 % spell hit with your frost and fire spells warlock - demonology - demonic embrace x5 gain 15% more stamina again i played classic so this may be different in ascension. these are classic talents and their effects.

If I recall correctly from when I initially tested the Aegis RE, it does not stack to multiple Aegis effects. Triggering it again would only refresh the buff duration. And, with the sheer amount of armor you have at that point already, you could likely find a more effective RE. (I just woke up a bit ago, so my mind's not awake yet, or I'd be nice and suggest something
in terms of items, i think mixing leather int gear with plate mitigation gear is a good idea. Focus on int on BIG pieces, as in chest, legs maybe helm and shoulders too. Then go for plate gear in belt, boots, wrist. Get tanky trinkets with mitigation CDs.
Ya these off meta videos are alot of fun. I tried a MAx atk speed Sword SPec with LRE Martial Creshendo.. it was difficult but when i finally got Blade flurry. it def got interesting.
Before Mythic with the Natural Disaster Epic enchant and Righteous Fury, you should be fine (I was as a Moonkin Tank), but I think Mythic DPS will be too high for you to keep the agro (have not done Mythic tanking)
For my meta tank, I use a spell dmg/int dagger with a fast attack speed. Shadow cleave is based on your attack speed. With my current gear my searing pain cast 1.43 secs so I can macro together my shadow cleave and searing pain because shadow cleave is off the GCD. You can then just spam searing pain and you will auto shadow cleave after every cast. It helps with dps, and threat a lot.

Noob question from someone who plays Classic Wow, not yet Ascension, do you have your full avoidance while casting? Because I had thought that would be the biggest problem for a caster tank, tanking with spells that have a cast time.
I love that you are doing the opposite of a cookie cutter build. This seems more engaging of a tank build. But also a constant work in progress. It is not like there is a ton of people out there doing this to bounce things off of.
Have you tried the ignite talent in fire mage tree? More dmg and more threat from fire. It procs off fire damage, therefore your flamestrick and immolate spread
Bis metamorph armor comes from the “Ironweave” set. Tons of armor, it’s cloth, tons of stamina and int. The downside is how incredibly hard it is to get. Very low drop chances, ultimate easier to just do mythic plus and spend the coins on a set of it. My meta talk gets 12k armor just passively because of that ilvl70 mythic dungeon armor. I’m not sure if you can get mythic + Ironweave (I’ve never seen it and I do a lot of mythic +)
I'm playing Melee healer and know exactly what you mean with stuns etc :D The game is not designed for the roles we do, casting in Melee range. :D But honestly, it's so much fun not doing the meta stuff every one is doing. Took Berserker Rage and blink to get out of roots n stuff - dunno if it's usable in Form.
With the Hellfire Tanking, I have no idea if this would work but in theory should. But possibly look at maxing your Fire Res, and since it's your spell you wont have to worry about the 5%/level difference so you won't have to get too absurd with it. I believe 125 res would be the max needed for a 30% reduction in Fire Damage with 100 res resulting in 25% DR. Edit: Just tested it out, and it does reduce the damage, and 125 is not max, with a pot and common FR AH gear I got up to 171FR which really started to scale down the damage taken from Hellfire tics. Be curious if you cold hold agro though, even with taunting hellfire effect and inferno RE's, channeling for 13s is a massively long time...
you can give up some defensive like divine protection and macro it with meta so you cast divine protection first then cast meta. you could also try a agility/dodge style like bear gear.
Being in this video (shieldgobrr) I play pure shadow mainly for the shadow crash reminds me of hand of gul'dan, not just to spam shadow bolt. I've been trying to get the re fixed to where any single target shadow cast can give you a stack of pure shadow to break up the monotony! But keep up the good work man fun tank idea!

Any potential with this build to go warrior gear with defense/shield block, use the blue re to convert ap to searing pain dmg and then have spiritual attunement to soak cover any mana problems
When I was thinking about that I kept coming to the conclusion that my AP would never reach great heights for it to be worth it but its certainly worth trying. Also important to keep in mind that raid gear might make a difference that Im not seeing for the AP version of the build because I tend to think of things based in mythic/mythic+ gear.
Have you looked in the mage fire tree at fiery payback? It has a chance to disarm your opponents when they hit you, effectively reducing their damage I reckon? I'm not 100% sure if this works though.

Just had a thought, if you had fire ward, the mage spell that absorbes fire damage, the epic Re dancing flames I think it's called. Allows you to use flamestrike instant while it's active and has a 50% reduced mana cost. Might be worth trying to get if you see it on your rolls. It's a blue tho so soul link might be better obviously 🤷🏻♂️😂
Probably going to have to get pots and enchants to help with stats as much as possible. Though, difficult to put high priced enchants on gear that would be replaced quickly

Any reason not to take shadowbolt and nightfall? I understand u have corruption already, plus ur already using destruction talents, seems like quite an easy extra threat tbh.
ive been playing this the past few days and id say just try to get a full set of bear tank set to get all the dodge and defense stats then just use mental quickness to get dmg
@@Mcdoubles please do took me 3 rolls to 60 to get decent skills and tree of life at 60 and it was all uphill from there. its amazing how many nature based heals and skills i have... very little to replace but would still like a few more i missed... nevertheless i finally heal mythics with a breeze
Idk if someone’s already mentioned this but you can’t dodge/parry/block while casting, making aspect of the monkey/evasion pretty useless for u given ur casting 90% of the time
Try using Intellect plate, perhaps? Might help out with getting more armor if that's the big relying factor, and then you can also use Armored to the Teeth and other things, kinda turning this into a fusion with the Darkguard.
Maybe Ascension could go the auto-battler route where 3 of the same item would combine into an even better version of that same item just to add salt to the wound of getting padre's trousers over and over again haha
9:32 they really gotta add this as a RE, in general.. caster tank re's also, do you use the tank training dummy to check which talents provide more mitigation
For Mana problem on casters.. I think many people count out the 25% mana regen while casting talents... my faves are pyromaniac and dreamstate... which both give 25% mana regen and 1% spell crit... so for 6 talent points you get 6% crit and 50% mana regen while casting
I don't play ascension, so take this idea witha grain of salt, but what if you ditched the shield and used a second staff. I don't know how much each block is reducing damage, but it could give you more spell power, i would assume, than the shield.
attunement baby, told you, theres just so much info to learn across the talents hard for anyone to know about everything. I think the clearcasting talent from arcane mage tree is better than the shaman one though.
my favorite caster tank is lunar spirits, ever since it got nerfed to being an epic, it's made the build that much better cause now you can use spell slinger
If you do decide to try and improve the build with soul link I think going felguard for the dmg increase and the legendary enchants percentage increase to pet dmg while allowing for dmg reduction has potential as well
Hard casting tanks in dungeons just aren't a thing, though. It doesn't matter that Defensive Magic lets you parry, block and dodge while you cast, or that Searing Pain/Scorch have REs that let you walk during casts. You still get absolutely hammered with interrupts and stuns by most trash groups and bosses. You can't rely on a hardcasting build, not even for single-target bosses. Tanks need instant abilities/spells, auto-attacks and ideally, lingering aoe.
Build a Cast Sequence macro to buff and put you into meta? Something like: /castsequence [@self] reset=(CD of Meta-1sec) Buff, Buff, Meta I use this style on my healer for buffs before going into tree from in pvp.

Moonkin form lacks that massive threat gain that we get from the meta rn so Im not sure.

Did they change Metamorphosis so you can use other spells than Warlock skills? Like every fire spell from mages etc? Not played since summer or so.

Why not go fire ward with the enchant making flamestrikes instant? Could maybe scrap having to use searing pain at all

No flame! But u never use Bloodrage + Cleave combo, maybe consider other RE's. Thx 4 content

feels greedy. If nightfall let shadowbolt hit more than 1 target like it does for Corrupted Bear Form it might be more appealing to me

You should try using ironweave gear, its cloth gear with more armor than plate and grants stam and intellect.

Try using Intellect plate, perhaps? Might help out with getting more armor if that's the big relying factor, and then you can also use Armored to the Teeth and other things, kinda turning this into a fusion with the Darkguard.

If full caster tanks are to ever be a thing, they need an RE or talent to make them resistant to interrupts and stuns in PvE.
For Mana problem on casters.. I think many people count out the 25% mana regen while casting talents... my faves are pyromaniac and dreamstate... which both give 25% mana regen and 1% spell crit... so for 6 talent points you get 6% crit and 50% mana regen while casting
I don't play ascension, so take this idea witha grain of salt, but what if you ditched the shield and used a second staff. I don't know how much each block is reducing damage, but it could give you more spell power, i would assume, than the shield.
Sadly you can't dual wield staves :( there's a limitation to it with TG.
This is the way Project Ascension is meant to be played.
attunement baby, told you, theres just so much info to learn across the talents hard for anyone to know about everything. I think the clearcasting talent from arcane mage tree is better than the shaman one though.

my favorite caster tank is lunar spirits, ever since it got nerfed to being an epic, it's made the build that much better cause now you can use spell slinger

If you do decide to try and improve the build with soul link I think going felguard for the dmg increase and the legendary enchants percentage increase to pet dmg while allowing for dmg reduction has potential as well
I am not sure whether Metamorphosis counts as Shapeshifting. Technically it's just a buff.
for mana try "spirit atonement" i think its called. a pally talent when you get healed you also get mana back
Hard casting tanks in dungeons just aren't a thing, though. It doesn't matter that Defensive Magic lets you parry, block and dodge while you cast, or that Searing Pain/Scorch have REs that let you walk during casts. You still get absolutely hammered with interrupts and stuns by most trash groups and bosses. You can't rely on a hardcasting build, not even for single-target bosses. Tanks need instant abilities/spells, auto-attacks and ideally, lingering aoe.
Maybe pull packs with Flamestrke or Immolate?
Build a Cast Sequence macro to buff and put you into meta?
Something like:
/castsequence [@self] reset=(CD of Meta-1sec) Buff, Buff, Meta
I use this style on my healer for buffs before going into tree from in pvp.

dont get armor % bonus from meta in anything other than cloth/leather
just try to get to 3% def, and since you have talent that gives you 3% you will be crit imune, so atleast thats good
If you have the spare talents. Which you probably don’t. But ignite may be a nice threat and damage tool
Shadow breath will be sick together with Immolation aura
