Today we take a closer look at Bobby, his relationships with other characters like Olivia and Mario, and how we grow to love Bobby.

This was definitely my favourite character, every time I go to autumn mountain, the music reminds me of him and I actually get sad.😢

Yeah, Bobby's an amazing character. It's so weird going back to places you were with him
Bobby was made to make an impact, Olivia was created by Olly to support him. Additionally, as far as I've heard, the first parts of their stories that we hear about both happen some place in the Great Sea.
Olivia was new to this world, Bobby had lost their memory so in a way this was also new to him, plus they were both adorable dorks.
After we revisit these places, they both find / receive a special item, neither of them tell the player what it is until it was used.
In the end, the items open the path to continuing the story.
Bobby had good memories, and fulfilled his goal making an impact to help save the world, by taking away his own life to save Olivia and open the way to the yellow streamer. Despite not being alive anymore, he continues to be by your side literally, as Bobby still appears as a ghost in the pictures in Shogun Studio's Photo Studio (or at least that's how I like to see it). Additionally, other than reminding the player about Bobby, using other Bob-ombs, if you sit on the 2 benches in Autumn Mountain, the 1 in Shogun Studios or press the ask for help button in Breezy Tunnel and Sweet paper Valley, Olivia actually comments on memories with Bobby.
Olivia gave the truth to Olly, making him want his bad doings would be undone by using his own life as the key to the 1000 cranes technique. And then Olivia fulfils her duty to support her brother's opinions to undo the mess, saving the world, but unfolding her own life in the process.
Bobby's actions might of made it easier for Olivia to do what she did, she did mention that she'll be ready to do her part when that time comes similar to how Bobby had his death planned the second he says to set sail for the great sea...
Bobby changed after remembering the loss of a close friend, Olivia changed after looking back at the loss of Bobby and in the end, Olly as well...
So in the end, their stories are are actually really similar!
Something else that makes Bobby's character in general more impactful is the fact that, some people think of them as just a bob-omb just by design and expect just that out of them, so his personality and death catches people off guard. I can say the same about Professor toad and Captain Teeowed, despite being toads and even have the game itself mention a complaint about ''if you've seen one toad, you've seen them all'', some people see them as just toads, yet they still have their own personalities too! And it can make them much more exciting to learn about, compared to Bowser Jr, Kamek and Bowser as we already know a bit about them.
Another extra detail is the music that plays during Bobby's flashback it seems... familiar...

Paper Mario: the Copy Conspiracy
I noticed that Bombette (in Paper Mario) always seemed to come back after she exploded, while Bobby Bob-omb (in Paper Mario: the Origami King) passed away when he exploded. It was later revealed that there are countless identical Bob-ombs that even speak similarly. Was Bombette returning as a copy each time?
If that wasn’t strange enough, Huey hinted that he- along with paper people- come from recycling plants (in Paper Mario: Color Splash). On top of that, it is also shown (in Paper Mario: the Origami King) that paper people can travel through fax machines. Is anyone copied by printers? Yes. Paper Mario can copy himself in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.
Oh man, it would be so weird if every time a different Bombette came back! The first wall that Bombette blows up, she makes a comment about how she realized she could have done it before, so she still has memories
ZXMany I think Bombette survived, cuz her explosions were little, but Bobby had to use it all cuz that Boulder was huge...
@@techstorm.3461 That's interesting! Bombette can only explode cracked walls, so that wouldn't require as big of an explosion
I think that bombette and bobbery are special types of bobombs that come back after exploding, but just like in every other game the bobombs you fight don't come back. They're just basic bombombs that can't withstand their explosion
What an incredibly well-written video! Bobby's story is so special and surprisingly heavy for a Mario game. Nintendo was tackling very mature topics here, and it's juxtaposition with the cheery and humorous style of Paper Mario made it hit even harder.

This is my favorite character as well, I cried my eyes out when this happened. I felt really sad, but since I had clay, I decided to ‘bring Bobby back to life’ by making a sculpture of him. Then I felt better. Today, My sculpture of him rests safely on the shelf of interesting things.

I legitimately screamed when bob omb sacrificed himself in world 3. He was my favorite character.
Bobby…….. Honestly he’s just an idiot😂. He’s lovable one but an idiot nonetheless. Throughout the entirety of the second chapter when you first meet him he does literally nothing to help you except maybe hit one enemy in battle but he trips half the time. If anything he made the adventure a harder because we had to try to save him for 10 minutes when he fell off the bridge. When the most useful thing a character can do is literally die I think that’s a sign you have a problem. To be honest I didn’t even find his personality even memorable he was just kind of there but I guess that’s just my opinion
If only there was a magic circle, when Olivia gotten crushed, than it would be easy to use the 1000-fold arms, and that way Bobby wouldn't have died :(

I loved bobby. His death was semi-spoiled for me through a yourube video but I didn't get any details, just the fact that he dies at some point, so I still wonder how I would feel if I had nothing revealed for me, but either way I was so sad when he died. And whats even more tormenting is that technically King Olly is the one that killed Bobby. If he hadn't sroooed that Boulder in olivia then bobby never would've had to kill himself to save her, and olly indirectly causing Bobby's death really makes you want to stop him even more

What if... Bombette survive all of her explosions cuz she made little explosions, but Bobby had to make a huge explosion with all of his force to explode the boulder, which made me think...
What if they die or not depending on the magnitude of the explosion? But that’s just a theory, hope you read this.
That's a really cool idea! Yeah, Bombette's explosions have affected walls that were already cracked, so that wouldn't require as powerful of an explosion compared to an entire boulder

I think that is cannon. Like, i believe thats an actually thing. They can do many small explosions and come back, but one big one and they are gone.

For some reason, I stopped crying whenever I see his death. Not 100% of the time. I think I stopped because I have seen it too many times already. And I also realized that Charles and Bobby have the same personality. Not completely though.

Yeah, he had to get his fuse! It's interesting that some bob-ombs in previous Mario games don't have fuses but still explode

Subscribed! Beautiful review, mate. I only just completed the game, and damn, Bobby's death hurt. Hell, it hurts to even think about. I totally agree: the cinematography in that final Shogun Studios scene with the fireworks was amazing. For two-dimensional characters, they are anything but two-dimensional characters, if you know what I mean. There's a beautiful moment later on in Bowser's Castle after battling Scissors. If you return there later and talk with Olivia, she will talk about some of her memories with Bobby. Bobby the Bob-omb is a beautiful reminder that no matter what is in our past -- whatever pain or heartache we may have experienced -- you can always make new memories with the ones you love. And even come to love friends anew. That is the legacy of Bobby the Bob-omb to me.

Okay here is a nice little partner for you......for 1 chapter and then he gets killed off. you've got to be kidding me, Nintendo...
and honestly for the rest of the game I didn't feel like any of the other characters that joined my party were real partners, not like bobby was supposed to be. Professor Toad joins but as soon as that streamer is finished he is just left behind in the desert without any dialogue or explanation of what happens next with him!!! The partners aren't even included in the battles properly...ughh...
still enjoyed the game...lol
Yeah, losing Bobby was tough, especially when you're introduced to a partner that you're so excited to continue your journey with! It would've been nice to have permanent partners, and partners who you controlled in battle, whose attacks weren't just dependent on RNG

That's really interesting! In the first two Paper Mario games, you have Bob-omb partners who have a special ability where they explode stuff for you and they survive after doing it!
He might be considered a regular bom-om to the other bom-oms but in Mario& Olivia's, and every one he met hearts he more than that

I like this analysis and I agree with a lot of your viewpoints. In addition- SPOILER ALERT- due to going into this knowing how Paper Mario games are, I expected a partner character to sacrifice him/herself- more specifically, Olivia- but it was saddening to see Bobby go too. Both of their storylines are wonderful and, in my opinion, complete. Nothing was too predicable, even when some plot points were seen with foresight. Thank you for sharing your experience as well.

i was 100%ing origami king and once i reached shogun studios again and decided to take a picture in the photo studio, bobby’s ghost was next to mario.
i swear the emotions i felt when i realized i could’ve taken it when he was still alive-
bobby was one of my favorite characters because i loved his personality. his personality reminded me of bt from titanfall 2, which is my favorite character from the series. i wish bobby could stick with mario until the end, so i could see him attend the origami festival or see the world be fixed again at least.

The story is cool. I liked the game a lot, but I didn't like the battle system. I also like PMSS and PMCS.
@@gurpreetbhamra9752 Ah, I see! I haven't seen the trailers, so I didn't know that. In the older Paper Mario games, you have multiple partners, so some players might have thought that you could swap between which partner appears to be following you

You Help Me Try To Play The game Ju
You can have your opinions, but this game gave me more feelings than the old paper Mario games, it may not have a gameplay as good or a story as well made but that’s not what defines a game to be good, is what the game expresses and how can make you care about the world and the characters who live in it, Super Paper Mario did this amazingly but , well, by that time we had the best game of the saga as predecesor, we were expecting an epic third game of the franchise.
Origami king set a difference, people after seeing the toads, the normal looking partners, the office supplies bosses and the attack system were expecting a Sticker Star 2, that what makes this game so special. When I first played I was during all the first chapter thinking about “Why can’t Dimentio just appear right now” or “Man they should bring characters like Doopliss, Goombella, Mimi or O’Chunks back as We don’t know we are they now” I spent all the first streamer missing these characters and hoping them to just pop out from somewhere.
The second chapter arrived and I suddenly started to forget about my complains, Bobby was such a lovely nice guy and exploring Autumn mountain with Olivia and Bobby hearing the FREAKING AMAZING SOUNDTRACK GHIS GAME HAS WOOOW. I just got trapped in the world of Paper Mario, I cared about the world and my friends, the bosses were spectacular the partners are memorable and I finally enjoyed Kamek’s presence in a Paper Mario game.
End of the second chapter, Bobby sacrifices himself to save a friend..... No words, I never expected this, no one did, you can get a few clues during the great sea trip but of course, We never though an end like this happening to a good guy in a Mario Game, in Super Paper Mario is sad, but is not represented as something bad, indeed is represented as the desire Blumiere and Timpani becoming true, but with Bobby is different, yes, he talks about being the bob omb he wants to be, but the game tells us about how bad is life to the bob ombs, created just to die, life is not a present for them. Bobby tries his best, he may be quite bad at battle but he’s there, always there, before and after exploiting.
Bobby is for me, in terms of personality, realism, and being a friend, the best partner the Paper Mario franchise has given to us.
Hope you are having the peace a bob-omb can’t experience in life in the overthere with your best bud, Bobby.

Bargaining: begging that Bobby comes back

Yeah! I was surprised that we didn't have a ghost Bobby partner in this game! There are a bunch of unused sprites for ghost Bobby in this game, which are basically Bobby's sprites but recoloured
