I like to use both to skip. Sometimes I am skipping a 4.8 flick shake on a wacky rig under docks for smallies. I think it depends on where you’re fishing. I also think it depends on what your trying to accomplish. If your just fun fishing, it doesn’t really matter what you use to get to the “unmolested water”. If you are only going for big bites and cashing a check, a casting reel is definable a better option in most cases. I live on Lake Erie and spinning rods come in mighty handy up North.

yeah just something that weighs the same as a jig and will skip easily on the concrete. Just trying to mimic the motion and get that down as well as controlling the line coming off the reel.

Skipping with a spinning reel is pretty much the same motion, you just have to give the bait a bit more oomph to get it as far under the dock.
Great information. I was wondering can you use these techniques around house boats because you can't fish within 100 feet at the docks at my local lakes
What state do homeowners own water? Never heard of this before.

i usually use a spoon, since most weigh about as much as a jig, and vary.
for all you bank anglers thinking that he is doing the impossible... get on something elevated. and try skipping. you will be amazed. its not easy from the bank. but if you are on a dock or a boat. you will find your grove in no time. the moment you get it down pat from the bank. you are a true pro at skipping

if i had a $1.00 for every time i whooped a guy using my spinning rod i could retire . I'll keep using my fairy wand. laughing all the way to the bank
i don't have 40 hours a week to get that good with a casting rod. i was weened on a spinning rod . i can focus on the line not my reel. i don't think about my reel. i even feather the line coming off the reel without looking.
how he adjust the reel for skiping?
i make real big jerks with my rod when im jig fishing. if i catch a bite when my rod is up, i drop it , reel the slack, and set that hook. its not that hard
After trying this so many times, I cannot get it to work with a baitcaster... can't imagine how it's done.

Yeah this kind of fishing requires heavy line because of dock posts and submerged rebar and stuff. im guessing hes using 20 lbs.

2 things you do wrong, not to contradict you, but you wanna move ur plastic alot slower, trust me, try it for a while, also, keep your pole tip down more, how the hell are you gonna set the hook with your rod behind ur damn head?
