Yep Floyd's greatest weapon aside from his smarts, was his focus and composure. In Boxing Focus is super important, you can so easily just go auto pilot because your nervous.

27:59 I’ll never get tired of watching this. You can only pull off this pull counter if you’re a master of distance. Floyd is leaning forward on his front foot with both hands down and his head leaning forward in a position that’s just begging the opponent to hit him. And when they bite on it he uses his cat like reflexes to lean back and then extend a straight right hand that lands before the opponent even realizes he just fell for a trap. You only get that kind of timing when you’ve done tens of thousands of hours of training. Floyd mastered the craft of boxing.
I loved rooting against Floyd during all his fights, but these replays allow me to enjoy the mastery of his fighting style and Boxing IQ. What a fighter he was.
People forget as well, this was the twilight of Floyd’s career. He had been boxing professionally for almost 20 years at this point. And was still the P4P. Champion across 3 decades. Defeated 26 world champions. 15 in a row. Also 10+ HOFers. TBE. No matter how you slice it.
This is exactly how you need to fight Floyd, you’re not going to outbox him, you absolutely have to go balls to the wall and pressure him, rough him up, put yourself in danger just to land a a solid shot, you have to be relentless and also have great stamina. Floyd didn’t think Maidana could put pressure on him like this, but the 2nd fight he was prepared and it showed in his adjustments.
Absolutely correct. There's a way to flight Floyd, but first of all you have to have outstanding stamina and pressure him all the way from beginning to end. I think Maidana gassed out in the middle and late rounds. Second, you cannot allow any daylight between him and you. You have to have your head in his chest the whole fight and cut off the ring. You can't allow Mayweather to fight you at distance where he can launch his right hand at will. Then, you're fighting his fight which you won't win. Third, I think you have to continually complain to the referee that Mayweather is holding because we all know he's like a crab. Fourth, when you launch your overhand right to his head, you have to aim your punch closer to your chest because that's where Floyd tends to move his head when you launch the overhand right to his head, i.e., closer to you. That way, you'll catch him on the chin instead of the top of his head.
It’s not sustainable to fight like that for 12 rounds you know how much work that takes, the same with MMA, people have tried to fight Bone Jones the same way, and they can win the the 1st 2 rounds but by time the 4 and 5th final rounds they spent. Same with Mayweather his Defense is so great no pun intended he weather the storm to win the second half of the fight. I’m no a mayweather fan boy but you have to recognize greatness when you see it. The Philly shell when mastered is the cheat code.

Maidana's mistake was that he was in a rush to throw a barrage of bombs at Mayweather. Since Floyd likes to run, you don't have to chase him down. Proceed with the same plan, but take those few seconds when he's running backward at the speed of light because he's getting pounded to take a few breaths. Let Floyd run all he wants, but when you move in on him, throw bombs (which is what Maidana did) and then let him run again. Nobody except Maidana knew how to shut down the Philly Shell. His mistake, however, was that he unnecessarily gassed himself out in the middle rounds because he didn't manage his energy well. IMHO, the Philly Shell (and Mayweather) is overrated, but now there's a blueprint to beat it.
He was terrible. Can't box at all. Just put his head down and threw wild punches. I don't even think he hit Floyd once. He punched his elbows and the ropes.
He must have thrown 50 punches from top to bottom hitting the head and occipital area, I don't think it's very regular, anyone can hit you if he starts punching you as well where he couldn't, at this point punches in the balls also count, shameful, so many punches thrown on the head

Anyway, I said Maidana's one of my favourites of all time, I didn't say he was the best boxer of all time. He let his hands go at any opportunity and was never knocked out, it was always a lot of fun watching him go after his opponent, most of whom were fighting simply to make it to the end of the bout.

The only reason I came to watch this fight in 2024 is because I kept hearing that maidan won it, and I nearly believed that before I decided it was enough, I had to watch it. Close, one may think, but Floyed won it in the most spectacular way... Never before had I truly grasped Floyd's greatness as I now do.
Rounds 6 to 12 were a thing of beauty for Floyd. He adjusted and Maidana tired himself and couldn't push Floyd to the ropes as he did before. Loved how Floyd kept composed.
Same here. I needed to watch it by myself. I'm not a FM fan, but I think Floyd was a clear winner.. he threw the most accurate punches, several times. For people saying the opposite, try to remember that in boxing, you gain by points.. punches landed and not necessarily for damage in the face. Great fight from Chino Maidana.. a huge heart, skills, and stamina.
Say what you will about Floyd, but even after out boxing Maidana thoroughly he gave him a rematch to prove it to everyone he could do it again for 12 rounds.
There was one major difference in the 2nd fight, and it made the difference in favor of Floyd. The referee. If you pay attention Maidana was not allowed to fight in close at all in the 2nd fight. The referee stayed with 2 feet of the action at all times, ready to come to Floyd's rescue when Maidan got into position to smack him. Once I saw him go between the fighters briefly, then back away when the fighters were not in a clinch at all. He was so aware and ready to break them apart at all times that on this occasion he thought they were going to clinch but they didn't. He already committed himself so he awkwardly backed off. If the referee is that close to the action throughout the entire 36 minutes, you can bet that he was given a thick envelope filled with coupons for his attentiveness. It was very obvious and easy to identify early on in the fight that Bayless was there with an agenda. Stop Maidana from engaging in the most effective part of his offensive game.

Floyd is leaning forward on his front foot with both hands down and his head leaning forward in a position that’s just begging the opponent to hit him. And when they bite on it he uses his cat like reflexes to lean back and then extend a straight right hand that lands before the opponent even realizes he just fell for a trap. You only get that kind of timing when you’ve done tens of thousands of hours of training. Floyd mastered the craft of boxing.

This is exactly how you need to fight Floyd, you’re not going to outbox him, you absolutely have to go balls to the wall and pressure him, rough him up, put yourself in danger just to land a a solid shot, you have to be relentless and also have great stamina. Floyd didn’t think Maidana could put pressure on him like this, but the 2nd fight he was prepared and it showed in his adjustments.

Absolutely correct. There's a way to flight Floyd, but first of all you have to have outstanding stamina and pressure him all the way from beginning to end. I think Maidana gassed out in the middle and late rounds. Second, you cannot allow any daylight between him and you. You have to have your head in his chest the whole fight and cut off the ring. You can't allow Mayweather to fight you at distance where he can launch his right hand at will. Then, you're fighting his fight which you won't win. Third, I think you have to continually complain to the referee that Mayweather is holding because we all know he's like a crab. Fourth, when you launch your overhand right to his head, you have to aim your punch closer to your chest because that's where Floyd tends to move his head when you launch the overhand right to his head, i.e., closer to you. That way, you'll catch him on the chin instead of the top of his head.
It’s not sustainable to fight like that for 12 rounds you know how much work that takes, the same with MMA, people have tried to fight Bone Jones the same way, and they can win the the 1st 2 rounds but by time the 4 and 5th final rounds they spent. Same with Mayweather his Defense is so great no pun intended he weather the storm to win the second half of the fight. I’m no a mayweather fan boy but you have to recognize greatness when you see it. The Philly shell when mastered is the cheat code.

Maidana's mistake was that he was in a rush to throw a barrage of bombs at Mayweather. Since Floyd likes to run, you don't have to chase him down. Proceed with the same plan, but take those few seconds when he's running backward at the speed of light because he's getting pounded to take a few breaths. Let Floyd run all he wants, but when you move in on him, throw bombs (which is what Maidana did) and then let him run again. Nobody except Maidana knew how to shut down the Philly Shell. His mistake, however, was that he unnecessarily gassed himself out in the middle rounds because he didn't manage his energy well. IMHO, the Philly Shell (and Mayweather) is overrated, but now there's a blueprint to beat it.

Maidana has to be one of my favourite boxers of all time. Never a dull moment with him.
He was terrible. Can't box at all. Just put his head down and threw wild punches. I don't even think he hit Floyd once. He punched his elbows and the ropes.

Anyway, I said Maidana's one of my favourites of all time, I didn't say he was the best boxer of all time. He let his hands go at any opportunity and was never knocked out, it was always a lot of fun watching him go after his opponent, most of whom were fighting simply to make it to the end of the bout.

The only reason I came to watch this fight in 2024 is because I kept hearing that maidan won it, and I nearly believed that before I decided it was enough, I had to watch it. Close, one may think, but Floyed won it in the most spectacular way... Never before had I truly grasped Floyd's greatness as I now do.
Rounds 6 to 12 were a thing of beauty for Floyd. He adjusted and Maidana tired himself and couldn't push Floyd to the ropes as he did before. Loved how Floyd kept composed.
Same here. I needed to watch it by myself. I'm not a FM fan, but I think Floyd was a clear winner.. he threw the most accurate punches, several times. For people saying the opposite, try to remember that in boxing, you gain by points.. punches landed and not necessarily for damage in the face. There was one major difference in the 2nd fight, and it made the difference in favor of Floyd. The referee. If you pay attention Maidana was not allowed to fight in close at all in the 2nd fight. The referee stayed with 2 feet of the action at all times, ready to come to Floyd's rescue when Maidan got into position to smack him. Once I saw him go between the fighters briefly, then back away when the fighters were not in a clinch at all. He was so aware and ready to break them apart at all times that on this occasion he thought they were going to clinch but they didn't. He already committed himself so he awkwardly backed off. If the referee is that close to the action throughout the entire 36 minutes, you can bet that he was given a thick envelope filled with coupons for his attentiveness. It was very obvious and easy to identify early on in the fight that Bayless was there with an agenda. Stop Maidana from engaging in the most effective part of his offensive game.

Yep. The ref helped Mayweather too much. Mayweather never in his career got penalized for holding. My complaint with Mayweather is he was so much better than everyone. But he utilized these tactics to win. I’d have respect for him if he actually knocked his opponents out. But he took the easy way out.
