I used to drink in one of the pubs in Westcott with my last boyfriend from Dorking in 1983, think I've eaten in the Wootton Hatch when I worked in Dorking.
Love the thatched bus stop and the timber cottages, thanks for sharing

Stowe Maries, my uncle used to live there too! Remember going there as a kid, it is Tudor in origin. Inside the house is very tudor (if that makes sense), really beautiful.

Thanks for that info as I coudn't work out where the Tudor origin might be.

Lovely walk and to cap it all the house of Leslie Howard, who played RJ Mitchell in First of the Few, one of my fav films.

Lovely walk and the houses and cottages were so pretty. Don’t want to rain on your parade ( but am going to!🙂) if my memory serves me correctly there is a thatch bus stop at one of the Claydens - villages in North Bucks. Directly someone says probably the only …… someone comes along and disproves it! Leslie Howard’s House was special- befitting a Hollywood ‘A’ Lister

Wotton church is never open! I remember when I was with the Vobes and they wanted to charge him £50 to film in there!
Glad you could film in westcott church, when I was with the vobes there, a guy doing the strimming stopped us filming. 🤦‍♂️ - I see they have removed the pews since then!
    Great video :)

Thanks Matthew, I recall that Video with Richard and still perplexed by them wanting to charge a fee for Filming! It's such a shame as it's such a lovely Church.

Great video of my home of 40years.Westcott has so much history, more than can be shown here.As a member of our Westcott History Group, we do guided tours of the village, and talks with guest speakers. We were responsible for the restoration of the grade2 listed village pound and plaque. You missed the two coins embedded in the pound wall, and the mysterious carved cross! We have 2 grisly murders,a German WW2 bomber crash, the home of a London gangster who made the Krays look like choir boys!If you ever decide to 're-visit Westcott to update your video,I'd be happy to give you a guided tour.

Howard's house seems to be for sale now for a cool £3.75 million.
Another cracking video, this is where you excel.

Leslie Howard, and flight 777, one of the unsolved mysteries of WW2.He was on a film lecture tour of Spain and Portugal on behalf of the British Council accompanied by his manager Alfred Chennels, whom some said bore a resemblence to Winston Churchill.Howard was also a Jew, as high lighted by Goebells. The civillian flight that he was on on June 1st 1943, from Lisbon to the UK, was shot down over the Bay of Biscay, with no survors. The Germans claimed that they did not know it was a civillian aircraft, even though the service had been operating twice a day since June 1940, with KLM flight crews. The Germans then tried to claim that Churchill was on board, hence the claim about Alfred Chennels, Churcchill mentions the inceident in his History of World War 2.Following the incident, all of the flights were switched from daytime to night flights until the spring of 1945.

Another lovely walk Marq, thanks for taking us along. I loved the thatched bus stop and dove cote, so quaint, and the beautiful cottages with the water, just divine. What a shame the second church wasn’t open. I would have loved to see inside; you know me and churches ⛪️ ❤
It’s a thumbs up from me! Your videos are always enjoyable

I see your point Marq about churches being looked. There was many of these little country churches that we had the keys for, or would get the keys from somewhere because of vandalism.
We have to lock our selves in to tube the organ. There was some churches that would have volunteers stay in the church, so it could stay open. But the concern was they are mostly elderly and the people that commit these crimes would have no problem in hurting any one.
One little job we looked after(can't remember the name) it really was out of the way. It used to be left open, until someone came in and stole the carpets and a chandelier worth about £30 grand. It was kept looked after that.
Criminal gangs live these out of the way churches, because it means they won't be disturbed. I did hear a terrible story, that in one church, the priest called the police, but knowing they would be long gone by the time they got there. He went into the church to see if he could at least persuade them not to. He was badly Beaten up.
While tuning an organ once, I was threatened by someone to stop making all that noise as I was disturbing there peace. Believe me, a looked church is safer.

Thanks Stephen and unfortunately you're absolutely right. It's such a shame but those are the times we live in.
