    I certainly wish you would have shown how you got the flower off the form!

      I'll try to make sure I show every step in future. I know it's not the same as seeing it but I'd lined the former with cling film so used that to gently lift the clay off going under the edges with my fingertips and easing it apart. I then peeled away the cling film before joining it to the back.

    I love watching your videos of making the flowers. They are very insightful. Love them. I'm curious as to the end products and how do you glaze them? Would be great if you post additional tutorials. Thank you.

    My clay will NOT allow me to do this! I’ve tried 3 kinds. My only thought now is to maybe try low fire clay? I know the UK obviously has different brands of clay but what kind of clay would you suggest to try to make this work well? Thanks so much. 😊

      I use a lightly grogged raku clay for most of my work. I swear by the grog as I find it makes for much stronger clay and allows me to do really fine petals. I'd definitely recommend a clay with a fine, sandy texture grog.
      For a smooth clay I'd aim to leave the centres of the petals much thicker and just thin around the edges to give the illusion of fragility.
      Does that help?

    Stunning! I do have a couple questions if you don’t mind answering. When you took the dome off the former, was it leather hard and stayed as a dome or did it flatten out onto the slab underneath? If the latter, how do you deal with the resulting air trapped between?
    Second question please….How did you transfer it into the kiln in order to fire it. So, so delicate. I can’t even imagine how difficult it would be.
    I so appreciate all your videos. So many great ideas….I just don’t have time to try them all. Thanks again and keep creating!

    • @PaulaArmstrongCeramics
      @PaulaArmstrongCeramics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks ☺️
      When I took it off it wasn't leather hard but I did let it dry a bit to make sure it was strong enough to hold the dome shape. Leather hard would mean it would be a good idea to have the base you were attaching to about the same dryness to avoid cracking on the join, especially as it's not reinforced.
      To pick it up I find some place to hold the dome under the bottom petals. It is tricky though, you're right 😏 If it helps you can slide it off the board straight onto a kiln shelf...

    Great idea, great inspiriation. Thank you Paula. But how to glaze this fragile thing? You never can glaze between the petals!?

    • @PaulaArmstrongCeramics
      @PaulaArmstrongCeramics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, with brush on glazes it is fiddly and time consuming, but there's nothing to say you have to glaze the whole petals, maybe just glaze the edges? The other way is to try dipping if you can, although you would need to move it around in the glaze and then go in and make sure there wasn't any air pockets that prevented the glaze reaching in between the petals. I'll be glazing this once it's finished so could upload a speedy video of the process if you'd find that helpful?

    Hello, I follow your works with great interest... they are from Romania... they are beautiful, but I didn't understand what you used to glue the petals together? as if it were cement, water and glue?... can you tell me, please... thank you!❤️

    • @PaulaArmstrongCeramics
      @PaulaArmstrongCeramics  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. I'm making with clay that I'm going to fire in a kiln so I use slip to attach the petals. Slip is just clay and water mixed into a creamy consistency. ☺️

    Which clay is this???
    What paste u used to stick those petals to the base plate

    • @PaulaArmstrongCeramics
      @PaulaArmstrongCeramics  ปีที่แล้ว

      I use potterycrafts raku modelling clay which is a buff coloured clay with a wide firing range and some light grog for strength. The paste is slip which is just watered down clay that helps things stick ☺️

    Can you ysed wood glue to stick the petals

    • @PaulaArmstrongCeramics
      @PaulaArmstrongCeramics  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not when making in clay as it's going to be fired in the kiln and the glue will burn away. If you're making with air drying or polymer clays, it may work but I haven't tried so can't be certain, sorry.
