As a beginner, this is genuinely the most helpful video! I don’t have a fabric store in my small town so I purchase everything online and it’s very hard to learn fabric types through a screen. THIS is exactly what I needed to see how each fabric type looks and hangs in a project. Thank you!
Thank you so much! We have a beginner "learn to sew" series on our channel and we also have lots of other fabric focus videos which will help you to learn more!
Excellent video showcasing different fabrics - I’ve shared with friends new into dressmaking who want to learn more about different fabrics. More of these 1 pattern different fabrics videos, please.
Hi Jan, it is a little bit scratchy because of the weave and texture. You might be ok with it as the waistband but if not, you could always use a piece of coyton poplin or broadcloth for that section or a traditional lining fabric.
I love ❤️ these type of videos too 😁 the only thing is that most of the patterns are either 45” or 60” wide & most of Minerva’s fabrics are 55” so how would ya work out how much fabric ya need for a pattern plzzzz 😳 oh I got my MINERVA FABRIC GUIDE ❤ yesterday whoohoo 🧵🪡 & I spent literally ALL DAY looking 👀, reading 📖 & adding the swatches, to it 😂 I never did another thing 🤣🤣 housework 🏠 can wait 😂 haha for another day as well 😂 really loving 🥰 it ❤ thank u 🙏 so much for coming up with this idea it really helps a lot 😁😁😁 xxx
Thank you so much for your feedback and we're so glad you are loving your fabric guide too! We advise to allow for at least a 10% shrinkage on all fabrics when you pre-wash them, so for a 55" wide fabric we would recommend looking at the 45" wide fabric requirements. You could also try looking at the cutting layouts inside the pattern and maybe even laying your pattern pieces out to get more of an idea of how much fabric you will need.
An inspiring video, would love more videos like this and Jo is awesome ❤😊

Thank you Jo! As a new sewist, seeing the range of fabric possibilities and how they might work with a pattern is really helpful.

I love the ideas and keen to try the brocade. If it’s a bit scratchy/ rough on the inside, any suggestions for the waistband inside?

Great information thanks. Can you tell me if I could make this skirt in a ponte roma as I have some in my stash and thought it would warm for winter.
Hi, this pattern is designed for woven fabrics, however a stable knit such as Ponte Roma could also work well.
