Finally some useful information about an R107. I enjoy the other diesel topics but I'll never own one. Most if not all of the R107 forums are pretty dead, most owners just say take it to the dealer, My dealer advised me that if they can't plug it into a computer, they can't even attempt a repair. I purchased mine 6 years ago with 103,000 miles and it now shows 112,000 miles. It did not come with records so the owner allowed me to jack the car up and crawl under it and I spent most a an 8 hr day inspecting it before a demo drive. It needed lower ball joints, new tires, a spare wheel and tire, drive belts, radiator, coolant hoses, Transmission cooler lines, and a new muffler. The PO said he was not sure how good the battery was but I found out next morning. The battery was good for one 120 mile drive in the dark to get home. It also needed a new battery box, that little cover over the heater valve. It still needs the under hood sound deadening mat replaced, valve cover gaskets. I checked the brakes before driving it home. Everything else is in very good condition. It has original black (non clear coated) paint (never been a wrench on any bolts in or on the body), palomino interior in very good condition as well as the carpet. It came with the optional jump seat, the original radio in a box, after market radio (ALPINE), very new looking soft top (perfectly clear side and rear windows), full manuals, and the window sticker ($62,430.00), Imported in Jacksonville FL and sold to a dealer in Atlanta Georgia where it has lived all it's life until I brought it to Tennessee. I have spent over $4,000.00 on parts in 6 years of ownership and it's not finished. It is very documented during my ownership. I enjoy this car and people always point and smile when Baby drives by, and it is usually the only one at local cruze-ins and car shows. I drove 5,000 miles through 5 states and 6 months before finding this one only 115 miles away on what was to be the last day I was going to look for it.

I find it so outlandish how my father just gave me his 1981 SLC 380 (in black) as a gift, and you just so happen to release this video the day before haha! I was highly anticipating the R107 series on your channel!!

I own a ‘79 450SL, and looking forward to restoring more of it. So far I’ve been picking and choosing some of your pointer videos which have been just as helpful. Thank you for your informative videos for MBZ enthusiasts, Ken.

can't wait! I (and many others I'm sure) will greatly benefit from these videos. I'm doing a "rolling restoration" on my grandmother's 1985 280SL which I recently took ownership over. She and my grandfather purchased it new in Europe back in the day, Switzerland I believe. Sadly, I'm fighting a lot of rust. But its a beauty with the euro lights and bumpers and quiet sentimental.

Looking forward to your series on the 380SL.
    I have a 1983 380SL ("Angel") that I purchased new in August 1983, and a 1986 560SL ("Sunshine") I have owned for 7 years.
The 380SL has 46K miles, and my 560SL has 190K miles.
Both very close to pristine in appearance and drivability.
I know based on your other Mercedes videos that I can learn a lot from you and fine tune my SLs to a higher level.
    Thanks for doing these videos.

I have watched a lot of your other videos and have been patiently waiting for this day. I am also doing a rolling restoration on my 1985 380Sl with 75,000 on it now.
I have had the alternator rebuilt, changed the fuel accumalator, injector seals and cap/rotor. I drive it every chance I get just for fun and it always garners attention.
Scarlett seems like a fitting name to me for your project.

I'm very excited for this series. I have my Dad's old '81 380SL sitting under a cover right now (there's still snow and gravel on my roads in the great white north). It's my weekend summer car, and while it's not perfect, it's reliable.

Great video series ahead on the R107! This model sure has a great fan community and does not suffer from defects on cylinder 3 that often. :-) Please cover the R129 afterwards, there may be even more enthusiasts waiting for a series on that chassis.

This is fantastic! I will watch with enthusiasm. I've inherited a project red '85 R107 with black interior that I'm about to start working on... has "V8 Catastrophic Engine Failure" which is what led me to your channel and manual / kits in the first place. The rest of the car is in good shape, but in need of "rolling restoration" once I swap in a donor engine.

That R 207, looks awesome as is I bet if I went to check the exhaust, it is probably the original, just like the shocks, that car does not even have rust, amazing, I think the only thing they did was change the steel alloys and put some later rims like the ones used in the 560 SL, the last year that body was the same, was that in one of those climate control places?.
