seriously, i haven't touched my MPC One in months bc of the SP404mk2. Once you learn it, it's so rewarding and you can really do anything. I think I'm gonna end up with just a laptop and the SP eventually.
I tried making some beats on jt but I can’t wrap my head around the sequencer. Every time I mess up I have to repeatedly listen then press 4 buttons to delete the pattern and redo it. It was just a painful experience.
Can you sequence entire songs on it?
@@daniel_dumile look i felt EXACTLY the same way. Before even trying to make a decent beat you have to play around with it A LOT and watch tons of videos to learn how to use it. Keep putting in time every day, it takes practice and muscle memory to make progress on it cause it's so different than a DAW or anything modern
@@BIG1TOWER You can. Theres a dude named Zeale whos videos are really dope. He does tutorials and can make full songs and performances on it.
@@davonstew480do you mean Lofi drum kits? They usually are understated and thinner. It’s part of the vibe I guess which differs from traditional hiphop.
The 404 mk2 is all I use now. This is the best portable sampler I've ever used. Learn it and building it out is like learning an instrument but it's worth it. Wish the time stretch was a little better but the trade off is the sound quality. Nothing touches its sound. I've even recorded beats I've made on other devices into the 404 just to get that 404 sound. I only use my laptop now for instrument sounds and vocal recording. After recording vocals I sample the verses and hooks back into the 404 so I can take my full songs and remix them on the go anywhere. Make sure you get a usb-c battery pack this thing is a battery eater. Oh and if you live stream beat cook ups on the go this will work as a usb interface for IPhone and Samsung tested.
Bolo you the truth, I honestly didn’t think the Sp could make a Trap beat. You just motivated me to use my Sp404 . I buy gear and forget to use it, I hate the learning curve.

I wanted so badly to love the 404 MK2 but just couldn't seem to figure out a way to use it for how I wanted to use it, and so I reluctantly sold it about a year ago. Bolo drops a single 10 minute video, and I am now on my way to pick one up for the second time 🤣 GRAS is real.

The Sp404mk2 is good it’s just different then a regular Daw with a song mode on it you can do pattern chains to make a song. However if your gonna want to make into an actual song you have to resamaple the whole pattern chain into one pad. And of course you can only bounce out stems from separate patterns not from a full length song. It sucks but that’s just how the sp404 workflow is.

The SP404 has been out for decades. Maybe not the MK2 but it's been around since the Akai S5000 sampler.
Seems like I remember having one of Roland that was built like a mpc it’s in my memory but I don’t remember what I did with it was only 8 tracks are 4 tracks

Best beat I have heard on the sp 404 . A lot of people still use it for tecno which I am not a big fan of. You made a hard trap beat on it. Is there a way to individually track out each pattern into lets say pro tools for mixing? Btw you need to do more beats on the Sp 404 thats a request! Mine been sitting in the box since it came out because i'm intimidated by it all i see is a lot of menu diving tutorials. I would watch you cook up on this from the beginning even if it took 2 hours.

I'm addicted to using the circuit rhythm at the moment just the way it makes beats super fast work flow it's no MPC but it's really fun does everything a sampler should. It has its cons but for the price it's a dope sampler
I got my SP because I wanted a unit that I could hook to my iPad via USB and would “just work”. I’m also addicted and sold my MPC to get a synth and digital piano to sample into it.

I usually hit re sample and then I play the sequence to save it on a new pad, then run that wave file trough my daw to give it the final sauce ✨

Export is a pain. But for the pad effects. Id say the best bet is resampling with effect on another pad. Those roland sp workflow is all bout resampling. Gotta take advantage of that skip back feature too. Peace

Could you re-record it through an Apollo using a some old school compressors, channel strips, etc? Track it through Luna and then do final edits of your daw of choice? Or even retrack it through MPC?
The machine sounds great. I have a question, I have a DR 550, Akai mpk mini, and the iPad pro, I was thinking of buying a mixer (Roland VS-1680 digital studio workstation) for a cheap price. Is it a good thing to buy it?

Good stuff. I feel like you still haven’t given into the SP workflow completely yet though. You can do all the things you want by recording to audio. So make a dry flute pattern… record it to audio… take that and make another version with reverb or delay… and so on. Create new patterns with your new loops. Nothing wrong with what you are doing… sounds good… just mentioning in case it helps.

It's crazy how when you catch the perfect loop of sounds a simple beat sounds full as hell for whatever reason
i never quite wrapped my head around the sequencer. I ended up using it purely as an effects unit, but i just sold it a couple weeks back.
I thought it really excelled in terms of sound quality.

I have a SP404MK2 myself I'm going to try that tonight. This thing is really dope. I also have a MPC One and though this is not a MPC it could be one day if Akai wants it to be, hint,hint.
It's low voltage and you can use batteries. You really can get a lot done on this thing. Light weight and very portable.

Finally, I took time to mess with Koala FX today, and I see why people compare the two. Although they nickle and dime you for full version and the ability to mix, it's still nice for the price. Sp404 499.00, Koala is 4.99. And sampling directly from TH-cam videos blew my mind.

i still want to buy a 404 mk2 but that sound is nasty!! i think it sounds fatter than the Mac, i have owned the Mpc3000/4000 and had an SP1200 in my studio from my partner at the time.

Even when it's not, it gives a certain type of quality to the sound similar to running the sound they a lofi plugin or tape emulation. There's a degradation plugin designed around lossy audio file types. It's all subjective
@@TheTonyTitan i get that, would never play anything lower than 320 in a club or festival though as the quality difference is like night and day, for sampling is ok though, especially if you sample old breakbeats it can give that "lofi" effect...
