Rooker alone gets us from 5th place in the east to.... 5th place. (just adding his WAR). He'd be a great fit on the Jays, but would cost a shitload in return, and isn't enough alone. Maybe I'm negative but I just don't see the Jays competing as anything more than a near wild card - is that worth selling future? Not sold on our less than blue chip acquisitions either. Mostly, I don't trust this front office to rebuild. It's great that we have a high budget, but if that produces 74 wins it's embarrassing.
This isn't really a 74 win team though, stripping it down for prospects and running out lineups with your rookies at the top to get them looks can't really be taken as a legit statement of where the team truly is. They'll re-spend that JT, KK, IKF etc. money and make some trades, the team should be significantly better in '25.
You guys are so much more level headed than some others on TH-cam. Not everyone loves Atkins, but it's nice to hear ideas and solutions without them being littered with the 'anti-atkins' narative. Losing is part of this game and the biggest acquisition we can get are rebounds from Swanson, Bo, Manoah and Springer as well as a return for Romano.. All these guys are All Stars who disappeared. Nothing to do with Arkins' ability to build a team. Their plan to hold out for Soto wasn't supposed to look so bad, but we still had the pieces to make a competitive run...
I turned from a "atkins should be fired" guy (still think he should've been) to an Atkins apologist purely because of how crazy negative some of the fanbase is towards the guy. He didn't do a good job in the '23 offseason but that doesn't erase the fact that he's made a lot of good moves too.
@@JaysTalk89 I'm on that page. Honestly, I think they were smart to not blow any long term money after missing Ohtani. If they splurged on Chapman (tho, he was probably part of the expected plan), Bellinger and Soler, then their options would be limited now, especially with Vlad coming due. This season went worse than expected, but Bo and the pitching weren't themselves. Not one fan who wants Atkins fired saw 4 all stars underperforming. After seeing their moves, it's fair to assume that The FO knew Soto was coming and that they would have another shot at a difference maker to build onto long term. As unrealistic as it seems, especially after last off-season, it will probably be up to Soto to turn down the highest offer if he doesn't want to play here.
Brent Rooker has finally reached arbitration, starting with 2025, so his payroll cost begins to creep up. I could see cheapskate Oakland considering offers for him. Rooker doing so well in the spacious Oakland Coliseum is noteworthy, and he did have better stats away from that place. Also, Rooker was only the second player in SEC history to win the Triple Crown, so he has legitimate skill and talent. He's not a fluke. The Twins never gave him a chance to establish himself at the MLB level. The A's did. I could see the former Oakland organization hanging onto Rooker to start 2025 as they begin playing in a ballpark other than the Oakland Coliseum, letting Rooker have a big year in this smaller ballpark to boost his trade value, and trading Rooker at the 2025 deadline.
Oakland mashed this year and are moving to a ball park that routinely allows HR on low 90s exit velo...then to Vegas. (Think 2021 Jays, specifically Vlad) They have no post arb commitments and maybe (generously) 40 mil in arb/contract renewals. It doesn't seem like them to spend, but perhaps they see an opportunity to hit their way into a playoff run. I'm not talking Soto, but I wouldn't be surprised if they held on to a guy like Rooker and try to add another power bat (or a guy who could use the rebound in a sandbox) and a few arms. It worked for KC. Also, of the 4 teams who made it to the LCS, 3 were in our position last season. It's not unthinkable that we can rebound with a vengeance.
Mason Miller gets paid league minimum in 2025, which is something Oakland loves. Of their two elite relievers, they chose to keep Mason Miller and trade Lucas Erceg. I doubt Miller gets moved within this next year, unless the receiving team is blatantly fleeced. The Blue Jays don't have the trade capital to get a deal done on Miller now. Perhaps it's for the best, though. With the Blue Jays' bad luck, they'd sell the farm and cripple themselves for years to get him, only to have him land on the IL long term.
The rooker back to back seasons are gonna really make him expensive in this market for hitters. Add in that control and your paying your top prospects for this guy. Even if the jays want him I think other teams will offer more. PS..Tampa Bay fans dont matter...Do they even have 5000 fans on a daily basis anyways? Would love to see Oakland fans get something positive.
Moustache is classy as always!

Guys!! Geeze !
Jarren Duran is nominated for a Gold Glove? He certainly has come a long way since the Raimel Tapia inside the park grand slam fiasco!
Vladdy won a GG with a negative Dwar, so I'm not too sure what to think about it.
Maybe about Kirk- earlier in the year - until they traded Jansen, he wasn't playing as much.

Clase led in strikeouts? He was 70th among relievers. He was tied for 5-6-7 among relievers on his own team. Great season, but not a big K guy.

what do you mean 5000 players? Did you mean 5000 fans?
