Benefits subscriber here and had to comment today: Jared’s hospital story and thoughtful consideration of the loneliness felt by single women going through egg freezing/fertility journeys was super relatable to me personally and a topic that I’d love to see discussed more on the show. The duality of freezing eggs alone being both isolating and hopeful for the future is a unique experience and one that should be expressed more in getting to know a partner. Being single in your 30s means lots of “life” realities managed alone including medical stuff, family planning (or lack of), death of grandparents or parents, etc all heavy topics and to hear one of them acknowledged here was really meaningful to me. Thanks for all you do to both bring levity and thoughtful grounding in reality to the world of dating! “is that my wife” was a highlight this year and can’t wait for more U Up? laughs and Jared’s special in 2025!
40:27 that’s nice of you to feel that and empathize with women when you saw them do that. Jordana hasn’t been single for a long time. I think she’s out of touch with how many thoughts a single person thinks about. All thoughts have other POVs but that doesn’t mean your POV is inaccurate. It’s a thought. It’s a feeling. I’ve had many similar thoughts go through my head when I was single for 20 years of my life. I’m in a relationship now and sometimes I even still miss the thoughts. I used to have similar to yours Jared because I barely have time to think anything these days. But I loved my introspection when I was single because you have so many moments alone that you can think and be thoughtful about things.. These thoughts won’t cross many other people’s minds because they’re too occupied. So then they could label them sometimes as frivolous… when they’re the ones that are just simply not deep thinkers, because sometimes their lives, don’t allow them to be. Being single is a beautiful thing for these deep thinking thoughts that you constantly have Jared.
This was my first time hearing a story about a woman negging a man as an attempt to flirt. Men do this to me all the time and it drives me insane. Very quick way to let a person know you’re insecure. There are so many infinitely better ways to flirt/make conversation lol.
Cat owning man: I’d exhaust all options trying to find a solution with the cat. Especially if I’ve had it years before I met the new partner and had no problems beforehand. Plus it is different with dogs. Depending on the breed of dog, an unruly and/or violent dog can be particularly deadly.
Hell no - cats and other pets come first. They're family. I would always choose my cats over a man. (My current boyfriend supports this, but he loves my cats so NBD.) They need to take the cat to the vet to see if there are any health things going on that are causing this behavior. The cat whisperer you need to talk to is called Jackson Galaxy.
I have nothing against the age gap movie with older women but I just can’t stomach this from Nicole Kidman. Gagged and couldn’t finish A Family Affair. I wish she had a different surgeon because she just looks like a blow up doll now and her as the older woman just gives the same ick as when you see an old lecher with a youth, not a ‘we have a real relationship’ and instead a ‘I refuse to acknowledge my age and am desperately grasping to feel young’ vibe. A good movie with this backdrop was Adore with Naomi Watts and Robin Wright, or Kristen Bell did one also as a lifeguard. It’s really not the theme just this actor. And since I’m venting on this topic I’ll also say I couldn’t like Idea of You either, because it just felt like Anne Hathaway was dating her brother or son, they just looked too too alike for me.

Lived in Delray for years, and I always describe it to people the same exact way that you do, Jared!
