    My wife and I visited the Serpent Mound late last week. It's in a remote area of Southern Ohio and not on the way to anywhere, but so worth the effort to get there. An interesting anomaly is that the mound sits inside a massive ancient crater from a meteorite hit millions of years ago that lifted the surrounding terrain about 900 feet.

    • @StevieTruth

    A lot of these interviews with these guys..not just Graham...really make you realize how much we have lost touch as a species with the natural world around us. So many folks living in big cities never really even see the stars. So many people spend so much time looking down at their little screens...they forget to look up, and at the world around them. I live in a very rural area. I love it when friends from big cities come to visit. Especially if they have never been here. Or, if they have always lived around mountains..never really seen a sun fully set..all the way down and beyond. You see so many stars in the sky here. Everyone talks about taking trips to these places around the world to see the big sites and cities. I think more people should take a trip to nowhere and enjoy the pure nothingness around you. It will show you just how much there is to see when nothing else is around to interfere. We are so tiny...yet and integral part of something so inconceivably expansive.

    • @dontcare7086
      @dontcare7086 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I hunt so luckily I've been on trips were you see the vastness of the universe from a mountain top in the middle of nowhere. It is truly breathtaking especially since my city gives off so much light pollution you only see the moon and maybe the north star even with a telescope. Winter is the only time you see a few more stars but it is nothing. I think that's why we lost our curiosity. Every time I'm in the wild and can see space as our ancestors did I realize how just insignificant we are in comparison to the universe and wonder what is out there?

    Having only learned about The Great Serpent Mound as a footnote in Jr. High Ohio History class, I finally took my family to see it in 2012 which was a drought year. It is absolutely an agricultural site and no one talks about it. My father graduated from Ohio State’s Ag department in 63’ and has been an agronomist his entire life. He knew nothing about The Great Serpent Mound. Each one of the “humps” lines up with a sunrise/sunset or a moonrise/moonset. One of the humps that face a Southeasterly represents the last frost in the spring which is absolutely critical for planting corn. Curiously It is situated on some of Ohio’s least productive soil. It is only about 30 minutes from the Ohio River and about an hour from downtown Cincy. The surrounding towns are very small. Pack your lunch if you visit. The last glacier sheets never reached this part of Ohio and it has that old “woodland” feel to it. This area did not receive the rich glacial till that Northern Ohio did. As some people have mentioned, the Northwest boundary where the snake’s mouth is marks a small elevated plateau next to where an old iron type meteor hit. A beautiful creek cuts through that scoured out area now. The water source and high ground is pbly what drew the ancient farmers to this area. It is so worth a visit.

    Serpent mound is in my county. So rad to see a talk on it. We have so many other mounds around here also that aren’t a public site, that sit on private property. Ones that educated people haven’t came to explore and theorize about. I wish I could speak to this guest and invite him to come have a hands on session on private property that I have access to to get his take. People take it very serious around here. Others have been known and scolded for digging at them. The city just found a new site while developing a mall and another while building a recreational path. Come visit again!

      He's right you know. I went on an African Safari when I was around 15 with my family, and something that I will never forget for the rest of my life is looking up and witnessing the vast amounts of billions and billions of stars. It's such a surreal and magical experience. I mean, you could literally see hundreds of galaxies with the naked eye. GALAXIES my guy. You simply CANNOT capture that experience on film. No way in hell. It's a thing you have to experience for yourself in person. It's an honest shame that here in Europe or any heavily urbanised civilization for that matter has caused us to forget the lost joy of what it means to be part of this great universe. We have lost touch with that spirituality in a way. That connection. It's truly sad to think about. I was one of the lucky ones.

    When Joe mentions light pollution, I can attest to that. I love ancient civilization but the one thing that always puzzled me was man's obsession with the heavens. Then when I was in Desert Storm, I remember being on guard duty and it was wicked dark then looking up at the sky. I can't really describe how I felt while looking up at the sky - I was humbled, fascinated, scared. I then realized why ancient man was so interested in the night skies - its beauty, its majesty, it even felt alive to me. It was then that I realized that I was looking at the same sky as those ancient peoples and at that moment, even though it was cold out, I felt warm, like I was enveloped in a hug. I like to think that our ancestors were there beside me and gave me a hug after realizing how special the sky was to them. You know, like a parent or grandparent giving you a hug after learning a life lesson.

    Maybe, Graham covered it in the full video but did he mention the mound is located on an impact crater site? That adds even more uniqueness to the site. Yes, it's fascinating. I live in Ohio & have visited the site a few times. Ohio is loaded with geometric sites. Take a look at the Newark Earthworks in Ohio. Especially, the Octagon that lines up with the 18.6 year lunar cycle. Chillicothe has a massive site. Alligator Mound near Granville. Ohio has many, many mounds. I'm fortunate to have visited almost all of them & even a couple secret locations on private property. There's a few books published that show the locations of the public locations. Almost forgot, Joe take a look at Ross Hamilton's research. If you really wanna go into the Ancient Alien different type of direction, take a look at his work. It's also recently been discovered that Serpent lines up with the constellation Draco.

Some archeologists date the mound as far back as 500 B.C. & attribute it's construction to the Early Woodland Adena Indians, who were found in many adjacent burial mounds in the area. There is a small museum there that displays the excavation of some of those nearby mounds. It's a beautiful, mystical place.

      I live about 30 minutes from newgrange. The county I live in is 'Meath', there is 32 counties in ireland so it's the equivalent to a state in America. 10 minutes from my house is both 'Tara' which was the place of the high Kings of Ireland & 'Teltown' which held the first ever olimpic style games thousands of years ago. Both these places along with newgrange are all inter connected with ancient myths and stories of the 'Tuath de Danann' is their Irish name . The direct translation of that is 'God's of the skies'. These superhuman beings created the majority of these places in the stories through their superpowers. Some of monuments are built with precise precision and in corilation with the stars and solitices in some instances. Graham's work always made me think that our own ancient folklore has more facts in it than we are to believe.

    Joe, you should definitely make the trip to the serpent mound, it’s stunning. There are also burial mounds around it. One other key fact about the site is that it is the location of an ancient meteor strike!!! It’s truly a magical place.

      Yes. Go Joe. I'll meet you there and smoke you out. Also, only a small part of serpent mound is original. Most of it was torn down for agricultural purposes.

    Graham is a profound thinker that has ruffled tbe feathers of scientists, i think, simply because he isn't officially a member of the profession.
    An exellent example of how one can use imagination, & intellect to help advance existing knowledge, by showing us where to look, w plausible theory.

      Yeah, but why a serpent...? Why would the ancients find serpents so important...? Makes me wonder if that's not some reptilian stuff going on there. Devouring the sun (the soul). Astrology, one's natal chart is the map of human soul... The soul is a star/sun, or is said to be one (better choice of words).
