I'm a 45 year old single mother, lived in Jamaica all my life. I lived in a garrison and crime was the order of the day. I started working at the age of 17 and always saved my money. Each time I thought I've saved enough money for a deposit on even a one bedroom, the price keep going up. I've always said that I would never leave my country but when I realized that I needed to provide a better environment for my daughter, I changed my mind and migrated to the US. Politicians not looking out fi people so people in them situation and stress have to do what them have to do.

The all own there house in the States and can drive the best of motor veichle..."And they obtained their degrees in the US...Praise Jesus.

Another crisis is these black men leaving women single mothers instead of marrying them. One parent household perpetuates poverty, crime and psychological issues but it is not spoken about because y'all are so proud to bring forth these children out of wedlock and even with different fathers and think this is perfectly fine. This is a crisis on the island and needs to STOP!

I do not blame any citizen of Jamaica who wants to migrate for a better life; it's become blatantly obvious that the govt of this country does not value it's citizens and are only in office to benefit themselves and their families/friends. It as absolutely nothing to do with being patriotic to Jamaica the COUNTRY, we are just not patriotic to a govt that wants us to suffer and live a miserable life.

The government upholds policies to pay working Jamaicans the bare minimum while business owners cream billion-dollar profits. The banking industry is an example. The working Jamaican is encouraged to open bank accounts. The POS machines have charges and the banks have charges. The POS machines and the bank charges carry GCT charges. The bank charges are pure profit earners for the banks. In my opinion, the Jamaican working public is being double-charged by the government and the banks.

What was WORSE, he's married to a becky too who of course couldn't give a darn about black people! He actually donated MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to a Canadian museum. His becky is a Canadian. The reality is life is not only hard in Jamaica but there is no justice. Crime, corruption and cronyism is the order of the day. I left Jamaica for 4 years and was able to build my home. I was working in Jamaica for more than 10 years and could not even dig foundation. I recently returned because I miss my country but honestly to the way how things are am considering to leave. The basic wage is crap when you look on how much yoy earn compared to how much you spend, worst when there is children going to school.
When you get $9000 for basic pay and have to put down $4000 for travel expenses back to work that leave you with $5000 and you dnt go supermarket yet, not to mention the light, water and internt then just imagine rent to pay.
I always say give all them politican 3 or 4 months of living as a regular citizen working a 8 to 5 on basic pay, and even put some of them in the inner city community and let them experience what the regular people of John public feel then and only then they will make changes.
Have you ever hear of a PM, MP or any politican complaining about the pay. Their children goes to the best school and when them can't read and write, they live in upscale communities. You only see them come out when it's election time.
The worst part about it is we as citizens that are affected fail each other, when half the population say they are going to strike the other half still turn up for work so we keep giving them the power bet if the entire Jamaica go on a 1 week strike, from supermarket to the man sweeping the street you will start seeing a change. We have to start fighting for our rights.
We have to be the change we want to see

How about he and his mps taking a salary cut so that Jamaicans can be paid a little better? How about reducing the cost of food and utilities and stop allowing JPS; FLOW and Digicel to name a few to stop ABUSING the citizens of Jamaica with these ridiculously high utility bills, maybe then Andrew Holeness can speak on patriotism.

I’m gonna rant, because I know I won’t fit all my thoughts in this comment. Crazy I just returned from Jamaica and I can relate and see all these points of views, I was in Savanna La Mar and I think the country took many steps back and a few forward. Jamaicans leaders needs to do better especially at the local levels. The main thoroughfares are dilapidated and the neighborhood streets are beyond repair, there’s this evidence of neglect everywhere. The people also needs to revolutionize the changes they want and don’t settle for less. I was floored when I went to juicibeef and couldn’t get a snack because they didn’t take cards then the atm didn’t work, it’s almost as if they didn’t want my business and I thought how many others did this happen to today and the loss of business. Why can’t all the banks in Jamaica figure out a way to prevent these long lines at Banks/ATM? Why is everything done with a attitude of I don’t want to without zeal yet when these same people move to these first world countries, they do the same thing with enthusiasm. Why can’t people abide by simple rules for the greater good of humanity speaking of the taxi drivers and motorists on the roads.

Simple answer the people who serve they are taken advantage of daily; they are extremely overworked, underpaid, spoken down to etc so they are not motivated. As for these worthless banking institutions they are an utter DISGRACE, to customers, NCB for one has ATM machines all over the country that needs serious servicing, and constant monitoring so that customers can be assisted, 99.9999999999 % of the time their ATMs are broken. The lines at Scotia and NBC are disgrace and if people had other options they would withdraw their business, no one wants to spent 1-4 hours at a bank!!!! It ridiculous.... I could go on but just ranting here has made me exhausted, especially knowing as I do I alone cannot make a difference, we all need to join forces and make these entities feel it in there POCKETS.

People need stability financially to actually live comfortably. What I earn here monthly is equivalent what I earn per year in jamaica and yes I'm now sending money to start my house. How can he not see that we actually investing back into our own country. Jobs aren't available in jamaica, too much students graduating from colleges and end up warming couches at home, that used to be me but an opportunity came to better myself and I grab it without second thoughts nor hesitation because I know it's better to work abroad and earn than to be here doing nothing . If that deputy mayor was in our shoes, I know he will do the same, but he is well alright with his income, so his oppinion doesn't matter to me... If the government gets the crime ( murders, corruption, extortion, etc) under control, Jamaicans would move back because people would feel safer to live and do business. It's the government's responsibility to provide security, proper infrastructure, public transportation, education etc, but it's really the private sector that should drive the growth of the economy through innovation. Jamaica has so many resources, including the people, but they are mis-managed by the powers that be. Many Jamaicans who migrated would love to return and build the country, with all of their experiences that they have gained in developed countries but are concerned about their safety. This is really sad because most Jamaicans are brilliant and creative. While the locals are leaving, foreign investors are moving in because they see the value of our country that we are not seeing. Eternal Father, help us to help ourselves and help our country. Give us vision lestweperish. "Ask not what your country can do for you but what can you do for your country". Mr. Deputy Mayor, please put your mind in gear before you put your mouth in motion. You are a public figure. Don't allow careless words to fly out of your mouth because you can't take it back. Find a better way to encourage people to stay, without being insulting. Politicians, wake up and pay attention to what the people are saying. It's no more about party loyalty. People want to see meaningful changes. Jamaica land we love. 🙏

I must commend you on this topic of migration.
I want to add my comments here.
I migrated appx. a few decades ago for family reasons.
Now , looking at what has taken place over this period of time , there are two reasons why I would jump at the opportunity to migrate if I were still in Jamaica.
First, affordability and second crime .
It is almost impossible to live and support a family in a reasonable way, and I am not talking about buying luxury items, just basic
    everyday things in this era.
Next , I recall growing up and being apart of a youth club in my area in which we had meetings once a week. It was such a beauty to hang out until around 10 or 11 o’clock at nights before going home. Now that is a thing of the past. No one is seen on the roads after dark as it is high risk.
Jamaica is such a beautiful country, never new of this beauty until I started visiting resorts, but it is so sad to hear and see the deterioration in several sectors.
My wish is that some major changes will come very soon,so I can retire in my country I love so much!!

Many of the poor people in Jamaica need to start helping themselves. Too many of them sit down, do nothing, and wait for someone to help. Then some of those who end up getting help act as if they are entitled to such help.

If the government think because the citizens of Jamaica is leaving means they are un patriotic,,where is his children living, , I guess he's looking but not seeing .if I was to comment on that my text would not be able to hold in this phone, , when he clean up the crimes and make better opportunities for the people, ,a better life and better economic conditions then he can talk .

I don't think Jamaicans think it's easy abroad. Most think that they'll at least have an opportunity to excel abroad, whereas down here the opportunity is small to non-existent unless you're born into the right family. Everyone has to do what is best for them. All the best to you in your endeavours and keep the faith ✌🏾🇯🇲.

I av no problems with who want to migrate , my problem is with those who leave and bad name the country and act as if their r better than those here (well mayb financially so)...they don't try to positively contribute , but when the other countries start falling apart u r gonna see ....
Then again I think mayb they should av left, leave more room so more people who want it can utilize this country.. cow never knw the use of its tail till it gone..
My biggest shame for my country is the crime, and the lack of accountability..

Its all good and well to say not to leave Jamaica but citizens are not recognized or assisted to create a better life for themselves and family. The ones that are saying "don't leave stay and build Jamaica....nine out of ten cases they already have a visa to leave the country one way or another also their preference in different items must be from overseas. The fact that teachers have decided to migrate is just a fraction of the "brain drain". I have been out of Jamaica for a longtime, my goal was to return and enjoy a peaceful life but unfortunately there are individuals that as soon as they realize you are a returning resident you are targeted by even your own family members. Being patriotic does not provide for the citizens, buy groceries or pay bills. The symbol for Jamaica should be a scale.......the extremely rich or the ridiculously poor. The scale has tipped and now the Jamaicans have to look for a better life elsewhere, until certain factors are addressed there will continue to be a "brain drain"

I grew up in the US with the ultimate goal of moving back to Jamaica & i used to cuss my parents for migrating to the US & used to cuss my cousins for wanting to leave Jamaica untill I got older & realised how Jamaica is & how unnecessarily difficult things can be on top of the insane murder rate. Now I'm migrating to the UK, I hope things sort out for the better in my lifetime b/c I still love my country & want to move back fulltime

Opportunity comes only once, I builded a Salon at the age of 18 yrs old and started my hair dressing business in Jamaica, after spending so much money on it , before the first year it was destroyed , I didnt get to see not even the money that I spent on the salon for atleast the first year, also I was so passionate about my job doing hair dressing, I couldn't see any success ingards to all my hard work and the finances that I put into it at that age, I leave Jamaica purely because of wicked people, my salon was burned down after a war in the community and I wasn't even involved. Sadly, I had to leave when an opportunity was just in place at the right time and I couldn't return back because of the violence envy, jealousy and spite. To God be all the glory great things he has done. The holyspirit sent me to the UK after and he opened four salons fir me and I was never happier. I am happy here in the UK , don't get me wrong wickedness is everywhere. To all my fellow Jamaicans , it is easier said and done. All the best for the near future 🙏❤

I left jamaica because of the class system and colorism that exists in Jamaica some 30 years ago for the US. Even though racism does exist in the US, I felt well accepted in the Black community. I have returned to Jamaica a few times and was in awe of the beauty of the country and would prefer to remain in Jamaica. In Jamaica, I was taunted for being a dark complexion and because my nose was not straight.. I was well accepted in the US and the Trauma that I experienced was lifted off my back. I was able to attend two universities where I obtained an advanced degree in Engineering, and worked for well know company in the US. In spite of all this, I love jamaica and consider myself a Jamaican American.
