This is great, man. My alt-itis means I have a fire trapper at about level 50 right now that I shelved to try self-cast Arc, but I might have to just ADHD back to him now. Thanks a lot. :D
Interesting. How much damage do the flamethrower traps add? Arc traps are clear-speed monsters at the moment... wondering if swapping the flamethrower trap for an arc trap would give you the best of both worlds: crazy map clear speed *and* huge single target damage. Going blood magic would also solve one of the other issues I've found with my arc trapper - mana issues.
im playing flame trap in ssf sc right now and going scion too, any suggestions about the tree progression? instantly pathing over to shadow, getting the trap stuff prob?
Another thought - what about Immolate? Because of the Burning Ground from traps it would trigger on every trap after first, whilst giving you massive flat damage.
With the amount of flat damage already available to the build, immolate is actually less damage efficient for the gem slot than either controlled destruction or elemental focus. As well as that, it is only extra damage on the second trap throw, by which point anything not a boss is dead already.
awesome build. can i ask if this is possible as an elementalist? currently have a BV elementalist that i am unsatisfied with and looking to reroll into another build. also can you provide a PoB code for the build as well?
What's up with your ascendency? I think i have your build matched + bubonic + sacrificial heart, but im having survivability issues. I'm only level 76 though.
Pathfinder sub-ascendancy offers consistent flask uptime, which is really good with how strong wise oak is for this build. Also, consider going for ahn's heritage or saffel's frame if you're not, the max res is really nice for helping deal with ele damage. Spark and arc mages are both crazy strong this league cause they get the benefits of the skill reworks as much as players do.
Any thoughts on rainbow Explosive Trap? Been seeing shaped Sambars selling for really cheap, got a triple T1 iLvl 84 one with lvl 20 inc crit/crit to spells, 40% phys as fire, and 10% ele pen for 1 ex a couple days ago. Probably going to be tough to get a Malachai's with +2 explosions but the 11 overlapping AoEs with 50% damage effectiveness using the enchant + lvl 21 skill gem seems gross with all that added damage.
I don't know how effective flat damage would be with 50% effectiveness, I'd say increased and more multipliers might be more valuable. I may be wrong tho.
There are a few supports that would end up doing more damage, but I found that more damage wasn't really what I needed. The build shreds everything the game with charged traps in, so I prefer to have the QoL of the trap throwing speed as well as a bit of damage from the crit multi. If you find that less important, use conc effect, added cold/lightning, immolate, or controlled destruction.
At later levels, how is the mapping with this? I ask because I started the league with fire traps. I liked the look of the new fire trap and traps in general, and I didn't want to go full on arc meta like so many people are doing. The issue was that fire traps weren't clearing very fast for me while leveling, so I decided to jump on the band wagon and try arc traps and it clears sooooo much faster. That saddened me slightly because I still really want to use the fire trap/flame thrower trap combo but it is hard to ignore the clear speed of arc. I am still leveling my fire trap gem though, and after seeing that mask I may give it a go again. I can only imagine how much damage it will add seeing as how the new temple unique amulet adds a bunch of damage already, and it isn't even near as much damage as that mask has. Sorry for the long post.
Can someone tell me if with lightpoacher this build can still be good ? wondering if its equal in dps or if Malachai's Awakening is a BIS for this build
Malachai's is the single largest source of flat damage available - depending on how good your jewels are, it can often literally double your damage to have it equipped. As well as that, it solves all the build's mana problems. It is very much core.
I always click on an Octavian video, never feels like he's farming us for views. I hadn't even noticed the thumbnail til I saw this comment. Def right about it being top tier. WTG Octavian,
Really nice build - I enjoy it with a tweak where I run arc trap in gloves for clear. I will say that +1 trap gloves is -not- an easy mod to hit. I believe it is a 0.17-0.20 % chance suffix which mean you are likely to burn something like 500 alts.
Scion Saboteur has the nearly the same sustain as Shadow Saboteur (due to them sharing the 1% (up to 20%) lifereg after throwing a trap) in addition to that he has (as far as i can decifer the little picture) chosen the pathfinder for additional elepen and flaskrecharge.
arc has only a 90% dmagae effectivenes so you want more increased damage rather than flat damage so something like a indegon would be more lategame damage
i had 60k avg damage firetrapper when ignite was based on initial hit, the burn was insane. I miss that build so much. will maybe try something similar. but 20 -> 21 is only 3-4% sounds really low? is it not more like 10%?
Haven't checked in PoB, those were just rough estimates. An extra level is more flat damage, which is usually a big deal, but because of how much is already in the build - its starting to hit diminishing returns
Hi, for your fire trap links, can you explain why you use charged trap please? Will it work if we switch to immolate, relying on burning effect from burning ground and flamethrower?
When you have enough dps to one-phase shaper, you don't really need more damage. Charged traps makes the build feel much better to play by offering trap throwing speed to keep up with shield charge speed. If you'd like to use immolate, go ahead - but it will be like throwing a bit of kindling onto a lit gasoline fire. Yes, it'll get a bit hotter, but the impact won't really be felt much.
Atiris promise is not BiS when you dont convert damage, in this case a (tripple balanced) wise oak is lategame more damage due to overpenetrating resistences
These days you build around defenses, not damage, so other than the shield max res how do you not die? I feel like today's delve would kill this build.
6L is hard af. Bought a Belly of the Beast with 40% Increased Life for 42c Bought 250 Jewel orb and only needed 7 Bought Fus orb worth 2+ ex and not a single 6L..
For sure. I don't, since this league was my first taking on uber elder. But it has room for kaom's roots and enough damage, which just means you have to be better at the fight than I was the first two-three times I did it. Which isn't a tall order.
Dont take this as an offense. Since im a build creator myself (I have three rather popular uber-elder killer builds on the forums), Im really hyped for your build. It seems like a lot of thaught went into this. I also dont really understand the craze about traps beeing overpowered, as other builds insta-phased shaper a long time ago (chin-sol-barrage, molten strike-anything, gc-mines, bf-inquis, bear-trap, skeleton-summoners, flame golem elementalist just to name a few). Yes of course, now traps are also in the tier1 league of skills, like so many others.
its more that I went into this expecting a decent league starter for cheap that might make it up to guardians and/or shaper, and came out with a build that shreds content at a level 3-4x what I expected. It exceeded expectations I had for it, not really expectations for what builds are capable of overall. Nice surprise though, as it means I can spend a bunch of time hunting the perfect upgrades for it.
From here I recommend going straight for more life total, if possible. You can even drop some damage. Uber elder is about surviving 1. degen effects (wich is already quite possible with the sabo-regen effect). 2. Surviving more than 2. shaper balls (you will get hit at one point, trust me). 3. UE frost cones (those are also hard to dodge sometimes). 5.8k is a bit on the low side. Maybe theres a way to take this to EB-MoM. Swap your chest maybe for Skin of the Loyal and add some good-rolled ES boots and gloves. Hybrid Rings (Life/ES) are also pretty cheap. Ahns gives you some maxres for cold, but maybe get flask effectiveness nodes and add a saphire flask to the setup for UE for that juicy 86%. Its quite exciting how versatile the new traps became after getting rid of the cooldowns, not beeing forced into tinkerskin anymore.
It is not as tanky or quick as 100% conv reave that does get 30m dps easy but it surely looks more fun to play. Btw if you need uber elder carry i can do it for you just for more info.
First time viewer, and I've gotta say, I LOVE the fact that I didn't hear a single curse word in the entire video. Props for not needlessly swearing like so many others do.
"We're only 5 days into the league" >already has 22 exalts. What the actual fuck. Just...how? HOW? My Arc Trapper absolutely destroyed the Atlas and any content I throw him at within the first week, got 2 ex drops and a handful of low to mid tier drops but nothing special. Definitely not over 10 ex worth of stuff. I'm so confused right now.
Lots of money made selling bases. Fingerless silk gloves, Spiked, and Gripped from t16 maps sold for 5-8c each for the first few days above ilvl 84, and I would get 1-3 drops per map pretty often. I also ran abyss on every map, with i83 searchings selling for about 15c for the base and murderous and hypnotics anywhere from 3-5c. Stygian vises sold for about 15c as well. I got a shroud early on as a drop, so I didn't need to buy one, and got two-socket tombfists pretty early on from running abyss every map as well. I got 3 exalts dropped raw, sold some nice omnitect rares from an exalt or two each, got 2 starforges and 4 dying suns from shaper, and the rest came from map sales and random decent rare drops. Essentially, I got to endgame content fast and played a lot. My current /played on this build is 6 days 6 hours of playtime.
He's not wrong, there are a bunch of vid's on how to do this and its made me decent currency this league (I'd rather be killing stuff than crafting so i haven't done it nearly as much as i could). You don't even need high level abyss jewels but higher level ones are certainly better. Given how much damage this build seems to do 3 stat gems would probably works pretty well tll you hit the 4 stat jewels. The best part is so much stuff is good right now its really not hard to sell decent jewels.
Bought and slammed on-stream. You can watch the clips and vods if you'd like. Or throw baseless, unresearched accusations around on youtube. Probably the second one is easier and less time consuming, I'd go for that.
I just started playing this game a few weeks ago and can't believe how much fun it is and how unlimited the types of builds you can make.....Love it
Add a PoB link in the description please.

Can you please explain why you chose a Scion instead of a Shadow/Sabatour? Would love to hear your thoughts on this! Thanks Oct!!
This is great, man. My alt-itis means I have a fire trapper at about level 50 right now that I shelved to try self-cast Arc, but I might have to just ADHD back to him now. Thanks a lot. :D
pro tip : watch movies at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Antonio Chris definitely, I've been using Flixzone for years myself :)
@Antonio Chris yup, have been watching on flixzone for since december myself :)
where is the build guide? :(
Nice video! Look forward to the detailed build guide.
Consider the following: Full added chaos (twin Apep's, fated Doedre gloves, etc.) fire trap.
i dont think theres enough flat chaos to get besides maybe the apeps ... and then you are wand dualwield wich basically means the build is meh
I meant the wand and the new shield - it's quite a decent item for CI, giving you max resistances and bleed immunity.
Been wanting to play this build for 3 years!
Think this chest and helm would work well for arc and lightning spire?
Can you use arc for clear in a 4link(5link shaper/elder etc) ?
Interesting. How much damage do the flamethrower traps add? Arc traps are clear-speed monsters at the moment... wondering if swapping the flamethrower trap for an arc trap would give you the best of both worlds: crazy map clear speed *and* huge single target damage. Going blood magic would also solve one of the other issues I've found with my arc trapper - mana issues.
Gotta try this one out do you have a Path of building Link?
Link to the build video or isnt it out yet?
im playing flame trap in ssf sc right now and going scion too, any suggestions about the tree progression? instantly pathing over to shadow, getting the trap stuff prob?
Hello Octavian, what chest would you use in SSF (until lucky enough to grab shroud) ?
Wouldn't Sacrificial Heart give you huge boost to damage as well or you need the amulet for defense purpose?
Another thought - what about Immolate? Because of the Burning Ground from traps it would trigger on every trap after first, whilst giving you massive flat damage.
With the amount of flat damage already available to the build, immolate is actually less damage efficient for the gem slot than either controlled destruction or elemental focus. As well as that, it is only extra damage on the second trap throw, by which point anything not a boss is dead already.
any guide up for this build ?
Most soothing voice ... Not only is the build really cool, but it was a pleasure to listen to #NoHomo.
did you consider new unique amulet, Sacrificial heart? also has a lot of flat damage
awesome build. can i ask if this is possible as an elementalist? currently have a BV elementalist that i am unsatisfied with and looking to reroll into another build. also can you provide a PoB code for the build as well?
What's up with your ascendency? I think i have your build matched + bubonic + sacrificial heart, but im having survivability issues. I'm only level 76 though.

Is it possible to use the prophecy The Jeweller's Touch to 5L the Shroud of the lightless ? Or won't it work somehow because of the abyss socket ?
Doesn't work, sadly. Socket gets in the way for some reason.
isnt added cold/lightning way better than charged traps?

Is this still viable in 3.10?
What skill do you use for leveling? I imagine it's not traps since you wont do any dmg without the trap nodes you get later, right?
Can you link ur PoB?
You can use his account name to (import) all of his builds for Path of Building. But I agree, he should add a pob link.

Why would you not also want a dagger with 90% increased trap dmg?
@Octavian Ascendancy for Ascendant?
is there a POE forum guide? want to save it for next seaon possibly
I have a video guide on the channel, in the video description there there is a link to a forum guide
is this gavin free from roosterteeth?
You think playing this as a sabo would provide more or less damage? The sustain should be better thanks to pyro right?
Scion Saboteur has the nearly the same sustain as Shadow Saboteur (due to them sharing the 1% (up to 20%) lifereg after throwing a trap) in addition to that he has (as far as i can decifer the little picture) chosen the pathfinder for additional elepen and flaskrecharge.
Can we play this as Saboteur??
would this helmet buff arc trap damage a lot?
arc has only a 90% dmagae effectivenes so you want more increased damage rather than flat damage so something like a indegon would be more lategame damage
thanks man
Maybe I missed something but how to you use auras with the blood magic helm?
Grey Jedi he doesn’t
currently he doesnt, but he plans to use an essence worm so he can get the anger aura with no mana reservation
Hey Oct; thanks for the great video! Curious, have you run Arc/Spire traps, and how do you think rainbow compares?
Nice build man, congrats!
pob or character link?
Hm, I seem to be getting more damage out from arc than fire trap in my pob. You got a POB link for this dude?
If you go to his Twitch channel and just type in !build it will give you the POB link for the build.
Ah really? Sweet, thanks man.
i had 60k avg damage firetrapper when ignite was based on initial hit, the burn was insane. I miss that build so much. will maybe try something similar. but 20 -> 21 is only 3-4% sounds really low? is it not more like 10%?

Hello :) How do you manage to have 5k8 hp, im doing your build as a saboteur but i only have 5k with the same tree and 70-80+ life on every item..
My build is level 95, with very good life rolls on most jewels. Base life is important, make sure you've leveled sufficiently before comparing.
Switched 3 points from area dmg to life + 3 jewel with 30-40 life and +600 hp :D Thx bro !! im lvl90 tho
Yo, tencent just released a copy of your build with a single change.
Hi, for your fire trap links, can you explain why you use charged trap please? Will it work if we switch to immolate, relying on burning effect from burning ground and flamethrower?

Have you tried Atziri's Promise with that build?
Atiris promise is not BiS when you dont convert damage, in this case a (tripple balanced) wise oak is lategame more damage due to overpenetrating resistences
If you use Saffell's Frame you get 1% more max res and 30% spell damage.
These days you build around defenses, not damage, so other than the shield max res how do you not die? I feel like today's delve would kill this build.
6L is hard af.
Bought a Belly of the Beast with 40% Increased Life for 42c
Bought 250 Jewel orb and only needed 7
Bought Fus orb worth 2+ ex and not a single 6L..
bandits?
Pricey. Ouch.
New to your content! Thanks for the info!!
Shroud is only 120c now? That’s super cheap I bought my first one in abyss league for 17ex
While the damage is really good, its nothing unseen before. Does it have what it takes for deathless uber elder farming?
For sure. I don't, since this league was my first taking on uber elder. But it has room for kaom's roots and enough damage, which just means you have to be better at the fight than I was the first two-three times I did it. Which isn't a tall order.

That dagger is fucking 9 exalts Yo
Really nice build.

There is a full build guide for this character out now on my channel, you can find links in the description there to a forum guide and PoB and such
oh ty i really didint see it
Than a 40% buffe and this is my league starter
Rainbow Trap?
you mean those kind of "traps" ?
OwO octo's fire trap.
Your gear is fine dude.
Found my trap build!
Nice build
I play a firetrapper in ssf, just need to get the prophecy now and kill the boss :>
get an aurabot
maybe a cursebot too
And I got ridiculed playing Scion trapper
Alligatoah
Do you have to get a degree in advanced mathematics to spec a character?
"We're only 5 days into the league" >already has 22 exalts.

Fice Tarp Best Tarp
Kappa Flicening trap, please.
now buy 2 shimmerons and oneshot shaper Kappa
shroud is 2 - 2.5ex
wow
Can you link your build on a website please ...
I dont think you even showed all the gems you're using =.= .
👍
I hate builds with this abyss jewels because they expensive as shit.
selfcraft them and sell ones you dont need ---> Boom mad profit
MCWoTGuy let me see ur video to selfcraft them lucky guy.
BETELGEUSEEE!!!! marty, amigoboyz and lighty all have abyss jewel crafting videos, there are probably more on youtube
MCWoTGuy wow so ez. now i am rich ty dude. Mind if i see ur video first? Lul
He's not wrong, there are a bunch of vid's on how to do this and its made me decent currency this league (I'd rather be killing stuff than crafting so i haven't done it nearly as much as i could). Dude keeps calling his build busted. Good way to get the kinds of attention that gets it nerfed.
Pleb trade leagues
6 days in and you had the exalts and chaos to roll your own t1 jewels.. hmmm
Bought and slammed on-stream. You can watch the clips and vods if you'd like. Or throw baseless, unresearched accusations around on youtube. Probably the second one is easier and less time consuming, I'd go for that.
Tim Johnson get told
Octavian you couldve said that in a more tactful way. For professional development.
Still you have far too much time on your hands.
Csaba Szasz
If by too much time on his hands you mean he makes a living off playing video games then yeah....
