This is my Epic Orchestral Medley for Final Fantasy 3 (the Japanese FFIII) for the NES. I have to say that composing orchestral arrangements for NES music is incredibly fun! I really got a chance to let my creativity fly with this one, as well as the FF1 and FF2 medleys. Of course, I also drew some inspiration from the remastered OST of the DS 3D remake of FF3. In this entire medley, I'd say my personal favourite movements are probably Deep Under the Water, Doga and Unei, Elia Maiden of Water (or Aria depending of the translation) and Dark World. For many of my remixes of older video game music, I can reference various midi files to get the notes I need more quickly (and then I do many days work of tweaking, altering and transposing from there on) but with this one I actually did the vast majority of it by ear, just listening to the original NES versions of the songs. For this reason, it took me slightly longer than many of the other medleys I've created. I hope you will tell me which parts are your favourite - especially if you are a FF3 fan. Of course, the original songs were all composed by Nobuo Uematsu!
Here is a list of all the tracks included in this remix:
Crystal Cave
Eternal Wind
Jinn the Fire
Castle
Let Me Know the Truth (Doga and Unei)
Dark World
Boundless Ocean
Dungeon
Perished (Game Over)
Sylx Tower
Forbidden Land Eureka
Deep Under the Water
Elia, Maiden of Water/Once You Meet Her
Lute of Noah

FF3 was my first main line FF. It'll always have a special place in my heart
Though it wasn't my first FF, I have some extremely great memories of playing it at work (in the lounge before my shift began). ^_^ It made that whole experience magical!
and of course thank you for creating the amazing arrangements! That aside, may I ask how you create these arrangement? Do you use music software, or do you compose a music sheet and let an orchestra play it? (Because it sounds really good)
It was mine too this year, and what got me into the FF games. The last shot of the 4 of them with the Christal just warms my heart
FF3 on DS was my first FF and it's so nostalgic when I think about it.
I play a lot FFXIV and it's so based on FF3 and I love it.
Came here today cause of Pixel Remaster out tomorrow for the 3 first games and make me want to play again and again
Wow lucky. I wish this was my first ff game. The job system as it was in Famicom style was really breathtaking programming for an 8 but console.
I really want an FF game that truly brings Amano art to life
Same!
Disidia
Made me feel very nostalgic because it's the first Final Fantasy game I ever played. Beautiful medley!
Basinator ^_^ Thanks. 4 was the first one I played. 6 was the first one I saw, though. 9 came next.

Came for a listen, and almost forgot to comment! Timeless Kee magic; with heckin heaping helpings of harpsichord! Wonderful!
Thank you. ^^
4:46 Oh man, the feels...
Beautiful job Rebecca.
Thanks! :D
I love how Yoshitaka Amano makes all of his characters vibrant and full of personality. My favourite are the agile looking swordfighters he always draws.
In it's own right, it's badass.
No on one on earth draws like Amano san, absolutely very distinct compared to all other artists.
You put the Square in Square Enix with this project!! Love it Rebecca. Keep spoiling us with your whimisical arrangements!
***** Thanks, Cal! I appreciate that comment a lot.
I cannot believe I never left a comment on this video; I listened to it when it can out. Exquisitely done!! It brought all the nostalgia back so suddenly..
Thanks! ^_^v
The love for the music of final fantasy series never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think I have heard every arrangement, remix and version of these classic soundtracks someone always comes along with a new take on the genius of Uematsu. Excellent work!
Yes! Uematsu has made a MAJOR cultural contribution that has affected/will affect the soup stock of modern music for generations. Thanks. ^^
Okay, damn. I got really crying from nostalgia and the sheer beauty and heart you poured into this Rebecca :)
This is absolutely beautiful.
FF3 on the SNES was my first FF game.
Your work here is totally splendid, stunning ; labour of love. It's not everyday that I cry while listening to old games music, but I have to say it was a good experience.
Thank you.
Thank you. That means a lot to me!
@@RebeccaETripp and as a clarinettist I was hooked right at the start ^^
Beautiful. Well done.
:) Thanks!
My favorite game in the series. Thank you for creating this Medley, its so good!
Fantastic work Rebecca. Your segues sound very professional and all of your instrument usage is really idiomatic. Love the richness of your wind writing, occasional clarinet moments make my day :)
Soundole VGM Covers Haha! Thank you. :3 I have some clarinet ensemble pieces (6 various clarinet instruments in each) and I'll be uploading them in a couple weeks.
I look forward to them! It would be nice to get these realised live. Have you ever thought about trying to get an ensemble together to play them?
Hehehe, yes, yes. I work very hard to try to get that to happen. One day it'll happen. ;)
as a clarinettist myself, I was very pleased :)
I somehow missed this one! Great as always. :)
Nick Kelley Thanks. ^_^
Thank you so much for making this Rebecca
^_^ Thanks for listening!
I'm so glad you added Eureka's theme as it's my favourite! Then again, the whole medley is just...fantastic, honestly the second time I played it I just grabbed my viola to try to pluck along aha. I could listen to this all day though... All the transitions are spectacular, the quality, all the choices you made on what to accentuate, what to add, how to orchestrate it... just amazing!
Thank you so much! :O I think this is one of my better ones in terms of transitions. ^_^
I have never played Final Fantasy 3 but it seems very underrated. No one talks about it or just think that FF4 is the much better game, I will be playing Final Fantasy III one day and I'm looking forward to it.
Adam Clark I hope you did. It is very underrated, but one of the best of the series imo.
Excellent job, FF3 on the DS was the first Final Fantasy I ever beat. What a ride it was! I was also really fond of some of the themes, particularly eternal wind, but you did a amazing job with all of the them. You just earned a subscriber.
+weareallawsome Well, thank you. FF3 has a special place in my heart as well. ^_^ Which is your favorite in the series?
+RebeccaETripp I have yet to play another one as I beat 3 on my ds very recently, I plan on playing the other 3d remakes like 4 and the after years and working my way on the series from there, I'm just waiting for a good sale on the recently released pc versions, I'm cheap as hell. What's your favorite in the series?
weareallawsome
Well, 4 is up there, but probably 9. :) After that, 6, 3 and 5. I pretty much love 3/4/5/6 equally, to be honest. If you loved FF3, you'll likely enjoy those ones I listed quite a bit. ^^ Did you ever play the Zelda series? That my other favorite series, heh heh.
Thanks for the suggestions, I will definitely try them all out. And I love the Zelda series, Hyrule Warriors is my favortie Zelda game and I'm still hooked on it even today! Everything about it is just amazing.
^^ Good stuff. I'm addicted to the series in general, also. I did a bunch of Zelda medleys, too. :3
I enjoyed every seconds of it. The best FFIII medley that I have listened :)
La Rose Fairy Thank you so much!
Damn, this is great. :D
Oh my goodness am I late to the party. This cycled on through recommended and I was so surprised to hear Dark World and Sylx Tower which I am more than familiar with from their renditions in FFXIV - I love your versions!!!
+Zac B Oh, thank you. ^_^ I love it when people pay attention to this one. I think this and my FF5 one are my best FF medleys. 9 and 6 after that.
Absolutely incredible
Thanks a lot!
Amazing as always :) I was hoping you would have included the opening part of "Everlasting Word" (it has a soft spot in my heart) but I didn't specify anything lol. The Dark World part was incredible and you are awesome!
mooglemaster17 Thank you! I suppose I overlooked Everlasting Word.
I haven't much played to the game, I was more into FF4 at the time..
I'm listening to the original OSTs(Nes & DS) to compare, but for now, I really like the intro on Altar Caves because this track sounds originally great.
Yours sounds much more like FVIII eerie tracks and I really like what you've done with it.
I really enjoyed the "trumpet"(sounded like it) at the end of Eternal Wind too. :p
I'm gonna need more time to listen to the original OST's (and your medley) but, for what I'm hearing for now, sounds like a very nicely reorchestrated/rearranged medley.
Congrats on finishing one more FF medley! I'm gonna listen to all that while working. :)
AfroSamuraiMonkey Thank you. ^_^ I have just FF5 and FF11 left to do and I'm going to stop it after that and focus on Chrono/Mana/Zelda medleys. Maybe one day I'll do a FF12 one (as it does deserve it) but for now I'm focusing mainly on games that don't already sound orchestrated. Oh, and, yes that was a trumpet. ;)
Every time you add a song to that Final Fantasy playlist I'm ecstatic! This one and your XI remixes are my favorites!
Amocoru Thank you. ^_^ A FFXI medley like this one is planned.
RebeccaETripp You should do a series of the music from the Dynamis zones. Seeing as we all spent SO much time in those zones.
5:36 - Best part. I've heard the 8-bit version. I've heard an excellent MIDI version. I've heard both FFXIV versions. ...Then there's this version, which is in its own league. I like how this version gives the Dark World an adventurous feel, definitely good for a Very Definitely Final Dungeon.
FFXIV did a good revision of it too for their World of Darkness raid.
In fact they did a revision of Syrcus Tower and Crystal Cave that is pretty awesome too
just perfect
Thanks! ^_^
Beautiful!
Thanks! ^^
beautiful ^o^
***** Thank you! ^_^
nice job. 👌
+Kiyan Lockhart Thanks!
+RebeccaETripp ;)
a very well made and enjoyable medley that being said this is the ff game I am the least familiar with and the least nostalgic for technically I never finished the game I got it when it came out for the ds but never beat it this medley serves as a good reminder to go do that first chance I get, I'm actually more familiar with the music of this game from the rhythm game theater rhythm than with the actual game itself but either way it was a great listen because of your skill in weaving these great songs together I have nothing but respect and love for it
Thanks again. I also liked Theatrerhythm!
@@RebeccaETripp finally beat this game and it just makes me love and appreciate this medley even more!
I remember YEARS AGO I listened to FF3 soundtrack made completely in orchestra, it was an actual CD album from Japan. It was AMAZING! ...but I can't find any trace of it, anywhere! Aside from CD's that you can find on Amazon but those are more like only select songs from all Final Fantasy's games. The CD (or at least 'source') that I'm looking for is the whole FF3 OST in Symphony. Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Are you _serious_!!?? Are you sure it was the _entire_ OST done by an orchestra- not just a couple of the popular ones? If you ever find somewhere to buy that album, please link it!! I would pay any amount of money for that, hahaha!
I've heard several FF3 orchestral arrangements- usually medleys mixed with stuff from other games. :0 There were a lot of FF albums from Japan (I thought I'd heard them all) but none of them had more than 2-5 FF3 things on them.
How software/ VSTs did you use for this work?
It sonds very good!! =D
FF III have good musics
I unliked this video several times so I could like it again.
The nostalgiaaa
2 & 3 are definitely the ones I'm most unfamiliar with. Well, it's rather expected seeing as how neither were released in NA for such a long time.
DeniedByFate I enjoyed FF3 a lot.
Nice :)
Sidi_lmx :D Thank you.
My favourites are the Boundless Ocean, Forbidden Land Eureka and Elia, Maiden of Water
You are a romantically formidable Artist!
Thank you! ^_^
3:52 - GAH! In that picture, Onion Knight looks almost like Hope! (Hisses and claws)
+John Tumahab And that's a bad/good thing?
To me, bad. I nearly covered my ears waiting for it to be over every time he had a scene in FFXIII. But the medley is awesome and I gave it a like.
John Tumahab
Haha! Thanks.
+John Tumahab you mean Luneth.
Luneth was just a name they made up for him, along with the other three names, for the DS release. He's supposed to be named whatever you name him and the other three Onion Knights at the beginning of the game.
3:24 is this Valhalla?
Is there any chance of a .mus/midi version of this coming out? I'd love to do a personal réorchestration for chamber orchestra. It's a fantastic arrangement
Do you have access to a live orchestra? And thanks! I think it's one of the better arrangements I did that year.
It's a school orchestra, but an orchestra nonetheless. Unfortunately I don't have ins with a professional group.
I'm having a live orchestra play my work soon, as it happens! ^_^ If you want to see the performance, there will be a livestream! facebook.com/events/174216413297453/?active_tab=about There's the event in case you're curious! This is for my Chrono Trigger medley, so I'm not sure if it would be your thing or not! I'm sorry I never got back to you about this FF3 one last year (I was very busy with work stuff). Eventually, I want to have them all performed live though! So, a lot of sheet music is going to be prepared in the coming years! ^_^
Thats.. *sniff* not a tear in my eye... its liquid pride
Tears of strong.
1.52 my favorite part
^_^
11:25は若い頃のウネかな? オウム飼ってるし
made it sound like mmo music lol
Haha! Well, I listen to a lot of MMO soundtracks (Guild Wars, Everquest, FF11, FF14).
