With actors, it's great to explore possibilities of the characters, discuss what's behind the words and the actions. But like said Geoff, we have to keep the wheel, to maintain boundaries inside which actors move around. Personaly, I love characters, not actors. I love the ability to embody someone.
I love exploring with actors especially those that are in the moment but I loathe listening to actors in monologue mode especially those that dwell in moments past. Cheers Film Courage!
I love encouraging them to be brave and experiment. Sometimes (like Geoff says) they can get bogged down by preparation, allowing them to move from that can be really exciting.
I used to hate actors. Couldn’t figure them out for anything. Until I saw Kathryn Winnick in an episode of House; ‘One Day, One Room’. Oh jeez, it destroyed me she was so marvelous. Now, I love these people, most of them, anyway. Lol.
I love getting goosebumps when watching an actor understand the core of a character. That *AHA* moment. Gets me every time.

What do you love about working with actors?
I love helping them so they can help me in return to realize my vision as a storyteller lol ( back and forth process)
Seeing them actually bring a character that's on a page to life right in front of you.

Non actors slow down my entire process & cost me money. I employ SAG-AFTRA character actor who strictly go bi my script & direction
