Awesome video! I saw the length and almost gave up, but your instructions were easy to follow and very straight forward, so thank you for that! even though Tuya won't let me subscribe to all required APIs the couple of floodlights I own work fine. +1 sub!
Thank You.. I'm from Australia and we have these rebranded TUYA lights, switches and sockets (GRID CONNECT) and this worked great. hopefully it continues to work.
This is a fantastic video Eddie! Thank you very much. I've been getting by with this plugin for over a year now but gaining the understanding of how to configure the Device Types puts things on a new level. I hope they release a local version soon! Homebridge paired with Tuya, Ewelink, WiZ, and Ring - Cams & Alarm + Homebridge Dummy + Lutron Caséta LEAP (for smart Pico button control) have made for a Smart Home that even my wife is beginning to enjoy!
Thanks for the video.. The only thing that you didnt cover was how to link Homebridge to the Homekit so that it imports. Ive scanned the code and it still wont import it into my home kit.. everything else is working great, just cant get it into homekit to acutally active them :( any help would be great
Hey Liana .. Appreciate the feedback. To add to Apple Homekit - All you have to do is open the apple home app > tap on the plus sign > add accessory > scan the QR code that you see on the homebridge dashboard. And you will be prompted to add the bridge to a room and it will expose the devices to the home app. Let me know if it worked for you. Thanks
Great advice. I got as far as adding the devices (bridge) into HomeKit but my three devices are labelled as not responsive. In the Tuya Developer portal they are offline. However, I can use them normally in the Tuya app itself. Any ideas?
Would you happen to know if there is a list of supported devices somewhere? I don't mean supported device types or api calls, but a full listing of say smart led bulbs that support the tuya plugin? Thank you!
Hey Eddie can I ask u which RGBW smart bulbs you use, cause I bought some RGBW Tuya smart wifi bulbs on Ali express but they don’t work like their supposed to do, it doesn’t appear the switch on the Tuya app and so it does not work right on Apple home, it says no response and on Tuya developer playform the light bulbs always result offline even if they are linked.
I got these pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005006125256143.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.35.1061caa4gftIWq&gatewayAdapt=glo2bra They do bother at times with connectivity. What I do is power on and power off to have them to work again.
Hi thanks for the video. I have a wt5 controller of a led strip rgb and cct, my instruction in homekit of white or warm white does not understand it, I have to give any specific order ? is it necessary to pay for this service ?
How do you get past the 10 controllable device quota in the Tuya platform? I have all 25 of my devices succesfully showing up, and homebridge (and homekit) can read the state of all of them, but I can only actually control 10 of them, which matches the controllable device quota. I don't see a way past this. I have identical devices that are all the same category - some work, some won't. Trying to control them via debug in the tuya developer platform also tells me "Your controllable device pool quota is insufficient"
@@eddiedsuza I have the exact same issue. I can only control around a maximum of 10. The rest only has 'read' permissions. My device count is 50. Do you have any ideas how to fix this or get around this limitation? thanks
@ thanks eddie, yeah it is really weird, because it says max nr of controllable devices 10. Perhaps it changed? I tried everything within the Tuya platform but I cannot control more than 10. Could you check yours what happens if you make a new project?
In my case it just "magically" started working after a few days. I literally made no changes. The platform still claims a limit of 10 and still shows most of my devices as read only but they are all now controllable anyway via homebridge. 🤷♂️ I don't love the dependency on the Tuya cloud platform anyway and am planning to eventually move everything to matter compatible devices but for now it's working...I guess?
Hi Eddie, Thank you! I always enjoy your videos. I am interested in understanding your logic in deciding to sacrifice your smart home privacy while using Tuya. If I remember correctly you were always a proponent of private, locally controlled devices and automations. I know Tuya products are extremely affordable, but the question will always be if using their products are worth the privacy tradeoff. Am I missing something? Is there a component of the Tuya integration with HomeKit that IS private and/or local?
Hi Joseph, Appreciate the feedback and that's a legitimate question you bought up. And firstly I don't use Tuya cameras since all of mine are Unifi Protect and do work locally. Secondly, the Tuya devices I have use their 3.4 & 3.5 protocol where I haven't yet found any working Tuya local plugin, currently mostly support the 3.3 protocol. But I do see some traction for Tuya local plugins to support Tuya's newer protocol. That's why I had to use this plugin to get the adaptive lighting support as well. Then for the security part - thru Unifi - I setup a IoT VLAN and applied rules to not access my main network .. However for the GU10 - I may shift to zigbee protocol to get the complete local control.
You will need to check within the technical specifications if the device supports color temperature from 2700 to 6500 and does white color. That's what I typically look in smart lights to support adaptive lighting
