  • Nameservers are the database servers that store and provide your DNS information for Internet clients. You Domain Registrar sends your DNS configurations to the nameservers.
Generally you use the nameservers provided by your ISP, but may change them if you are required to by a cloud platform, or if you have the need to manage your own nameservers.

Actually I want to make a correction here, some registrars don't have default nameservers where you can edit dns records on so the only way to get access to ypur domain is to change the nameservers to ones that you have (if you have any), so that is a pretty common situation where you are really going to need to change the nameservers

Hi Eli, thanks for this video. Quick question, if there are several dns servers but one ip how can you access a specific dns server? @Eli the Computer Guy

You can put in more than two name servers. For example: AWS Route 53 suggests four.

Just FWIW, with shared hosting, I've never given an IP out to a registrar, only nameservers. The only place where there is an IP is at the nameserver, where the hosting company gives out an IP.

Hi Eli. if i install cwp on centos7 and want to manage my dns through that panel, do i create glue records with the dns nameservers from cwp and add them to my domain registrars custom nameservers? or is it the other way around? thanx

I think u forget a reason.. there are webhostings coupled with integrated SSL service (free) , so if u have a external domain registerd elsewhere u have to change the nameserver to the webhosting to get also https on that domain

my registrar which is the country's main tld won't let me change anything else other than nameservers for my domain. Isn't this approach the standard one?

Name servers basically hold and replicate website A record information , etc.
DNS just serves it out to the endpoint user?
