Even if all of these documents/sales were legit, they would still have to honor the existing lease of the current resident or give proper eviction notice. Just because a property changes hands, doesn't mean that the existing legal renter can be kicked out.
Youre assuming the occupant had a lease. Which I recon was not the case since the occupant seems to of been evicted on short notice despite having lawyered up.
They need to sue the cop that followed fraudulent orders. We must not let the cops get away with this behavior either. We must eliminate the long arm of corruption from the equation.
its really sad that the average American can watch a silly fake news piece and swallow every bit of it. Even the title of this piece is misleading "TX man loses home..." ; its not, and never was, his home. If you buy a house, do you have to continue allowing whoever has been staying there to continue staying there forever? Of course not. It is not illegal to kick someone off a property you own. It is also not illegal to enlist the constables office to throw someone out of your home for you, in fact, that is the legal way to do it, vs doing it yourself. If anything, there might have been some minor procedural stuff that wasn't followed by the new owner, such as an eviction notice, but this guy was going to get moved out of the house regardless. He seems to be under the mistaken impression that he owns the house because hes been paying rent for 20 years; he doesn't. Someone should have educated him on the difference between renting and owning.
Cops in small towns have a way of losing their jobs if they don't dance to the tune whistled by the county commission. Seen it happen more than once, and recently too--a town LE official (being vague on purpose) dismissed on bs charges involving maintenance of official vehicles, but the real reason was he refused to be a yes-boy for the mayor.
2 years old and then shows up on my feed. Like to know how it turned out. Should go for far more than the $100k in damages and should be an easy win in court.
He rented the house for 20 years so he brought and payed for a house for some one else to sale and keep all the money. The trouble with renting a house it is never yours you just pay off the mortgage and they can sell it under your nose and you can’t do anything about it. I feel sorry for him I wish him the best
While they can still sell the house, you still have rights as a tenant. And one of those rights is a written 60 Day notice informing you to vacate the premise. Evicting someone without informing them prior is against the law.
Done with such ease, I'd be looking into more homes taken this way by the same person's involved. Bubba, his daughter , and the deputy, maybe running a scheme.
Local government most everywhere is getting out of hand and it needs to come to an end. They are public servants, they need to remember that and act accordingly...
People need to give a wake up call to these politicians and make them remember they work for us not for themselves and we should not be lazy as to not hold them for accountable for what we vote for for the money they spend
Go get 'em Jody! I know this is an old story, but I've become fascinated with your work in my home state of South Carolina. I'd love to know the story of how you went from a racecar fabricator and builder to one hell of an investigative reporter
Totally bad to see this happen, when it takes the average person 30 years to complete the mortgage and own the house only to have it taken from them in a few days. The original owner should keep trying to make sure that he recovers the house.
Shocking. I heard of a case in Canberra, Australia, where a woman had her home sold on her without her knowledge or permission and that scammers were involved in this fraud. Pretty frightening, really...
So owing six grand in another county means they can just seize any assets you may have at any time without notice? Potentially had he known he could have sold the property himself for more than twenty thousand to pay the prior debt and at least have some money left over. I can't imagine that's legal at all and if the judge has even called the documents fraudulent they don't even fear the judge either?
"If you rent your home to a tenant, you can lose your homestead exemption. However, a provision in state law allows you to rent your home for a short term without affecting your homestead exemption." That took a whole 5 seconds to find. He rented it out for 20 years, so it can't be a homestead.
I thought you had to live in the house you claimed homestead exemption on? I think the home owner is going to owe some serious back taxes. That doesn't justify the insider corruption, however.

Actually no, we didn’t escape England for stuff like this. It’s because we did not have the ability to vote in England’s parliament. “No taxation without representation“. But in the United States we have plenty representation, we just vote for the wrong people. People who put money in politics. Remember it was Republican appointed judges who opened up money in politics a huge amount. And Republicans in Congress refused to fix it.
I live in Bastrop when I was young and loved everything about it. It is sad that it has gone in the wrong direction.
