Evolution, unfortunately. Our ancestors had a different diet that made use of the extra teeth. They had stronger jaws for heavy chewing. There's no intelligence in this design. It's nature taking its course. Over time, evolution will eliminate the wisdom teeth and we can all celebrate from the comfort of our graves.

Everything is pretty much healed, just the annoying loose gums on the bottom.

I’m currently at the end of my 5th day post op (four bony impacted wisdoms removed with twilight sedation), and I just wanted to post this comment across a few videos to calm anyone down who may be panicking like I was. Because I was panicking. Never had surgery before and I read and watched every horror story on the internet. I just want to say that I had a good, experienced surgeon perform my extraction and that I dealt with NO unbearable pain, did NOT take any narcotic painkillers, and have been instead alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen (stopped that today on day 5). The sedation did NOT make me act weird, for those of you who fear that part. The third day was indeed the worst, but completely doable. I would describe it as discomfort at its worst. To me, the whole process has been no different than what it was like to lose teeth as a child, along with a sore and stiff jaw. I’ve eaten solids since day one, albeit soft solid foods that won’t interfere with the injured sites. Hope this helps anyone, because I read so many bad comments and I was completely freaked out the week prior to surgery.

@@mshmsh6368 I had to remove all 4 impacted wisdom teeth plus a back molars and my lower ones were partially bony and right up close to the nerve. I did my research and went under IV sedation so i was in a twilight sleep. The first 24 hours was extremely crazy for me because my tongue, mouth, chin, went completely numb. After 4 hours my tongue and chin came back 100% but my bottom lip took a long time. It freaked me out because it was the same areas that alot of people have complained about permanent nerve damage. By the 10th hour I was freaking out and called my oral surgeon who was a great sport. By hour 15 I started to regain feeling. It felt like a weird tingly burning sensation. And I'm happy to sat I'm past 24 hours and sensation has been completely restored.

At 21 a U.S. Navy dentist removed my impacted wisdom teeth right before I was discharged from the Marine Corps. 35 years later I had several dozen splintered tooth fragments work their way out of my gums very slowly. They held fast after poking through my gums for weeks.
The entire ordeal lasted 10-12 weeks altogether, it was awful. Those razor sharp fragments lacerated my tongue and insides of my mouth terribly to the point I couldn't eat or talk. I was miserable and lost around 15 lbs.
Finally I had an epiphany; I went to the drugstore and got dental wax such as some use for braces. Finally my mouth started to heal, I could eat and talk. I only wish I had thought of it sooner.

Not eating or drinking properly is the worst part. It made me feel pretty pathetic and I totally lost my appetite because I just didn't _want_ any of that soft crap and it's not what I'd normally eat.

Reading all the comments saying it didn't hurt that bad... I"m happy for you all, truly am. What I went through, I wouldn't wish upon anyone. I had 4 very badly impacted wisdom teeth taken out when I was 17 under general anesthesia. I have crowded teeth and a small mouth, recipe for disaster. They had to make huge holes in my jaw bone on all the wisdom teeth. (I can still feel the gaps where bone used to be to this day) I had nerve damage that made half my tongue feel like I burned it for a couple months. ( worst feeling ever, felt just like you burned your tongue on really hot food) Luckily it went away after those months, I still have a weird small area on my gum in the back of my mouth that if I touch it while brushing, it gives me a shooting nerve pain. I just try to not touch it.
But the worst thing ever was dry socket! I developed dry socket even though I had stitches and did follow up care. First days were ok (before the dry socket), I was hurting but it wasn't THAT bad. Then on day 2-3 or so my pain began to become so extreme I had to go back. I also had a horrible taste in my mouth. Turned out I had dry socket and they gave me pentazocine (supposedly very strong pain killer) and I was waiting for it to kick in but it did NOTHING. 2 hours later I couldn't help but cry from the pain I was in. I felt helpless. Absolute nightmare. It took 2 weeks for the pain to even begin to get less intense. Couldn't eat, sleep, barely drink or even move a lot for those 2 weeks. I don't know why they didn't do anything more than give me strong pain killers (that didn't do anything for me, may I add) A year and a couple google searches later there are supposed to be treatments for it. I'm still salty they let me suffer like that. They told me it will just go away on it's own.
So what I wanted to tell you all is: please avoid dry socket, do the aftercare. It's the worst pain I have felt to this day and I'm 21. I would rather break my ankle again twice than go through that pain again. But my case was probably the exception. So you'll most likely be fine if you do the aftercare.😅

But I will never forget that dry socket pain. It was definitely the worst pain I have ever felt and I've had some accidents and broke some bones. Also another bad part was that my school and "friends" couldn't understand why I needed 3 weeks off. My school made a fuss and my ex friends were gossiping that I was just whiny. So I felt very misunderstood. Luckily I can call them EX friends now :)

i got emergency surgery on 4 impacted wisdom teeth today. i was absolutely terrified of going and my body shook the whole time i filled out the paperwork. if you’re getting yours taken out and you’re horribly scared like i was, be sure to do research and find a gentle surgeon, just tell your surgeon before you get there and they may be able to refer you to a more accommodating office if they don’t feel like they’re a good fit. the biggest thing that helped me: IV SEDATION. one minute i was listening to music with the nurse, next thing i know i wake up to my husband smiling and telling me we can go home. I have bits of memory that are foggy but i never said anything crazy like the videos online, i could walk, read, and function pretty normal nearly right after.
tl/dr i had 4 impacted wisdom teeth and emergency surgery and im actually less scared of the dentist now. get iv sedation and do research

All four of my wisdoms were a level three, so much so that I lost other teeth as well. Went into surgery at 6 AM, came out at 4 pm. I had eight teeth removed from my face. 2 were touching my sinus cavities. Doc did an amazing, professional, clean cut job and I have the perfect smile now in my opinion, but if you do have pain in the wisdom tooth areas, get it checked out, because I thought my pain was just from chewing to hard or grinding my teeth at night again until I saw the x rays. Sometimes one gum pain can turn out to be a case of 8 impacted teeth you never knew existed. Stay healthy and wishing you all a good time!

Stoned Savage! The shot of anesthesia that they give will kinda hurt. But the procedure won't hurt unless they mess up the anesthesia. Usually the anesthesia will last for like 2-3 hours after the extraction. Make sure to take the prescribed Ibuprofen (painkiller) That will save you.

I want to share my experience of 4 days post extraction. I live in the USA and I got knocked out by the anesthesia lol Best experience imo. There was a total of 4 teeth being extracted and the procedure lasted about an hour. IT REALLY FELT LIKE 5 MINUTES. I woke up with no pain, couldn’t even feel my face tbh and I was Ok with that. I have minimal discomfort now and I am taking some meds but not much. I don’t have insurance at the moment so I did pay out of pocket and it was around $2,500 USD. Also, I am currently wearing braces and they didn’t remove them for the surgery and I didn’t bother to ask if they would or not before it.
I have to say this was the best way to do this. All at once! My sister did one wisdom teeth last year and it was hell so I was terrified for myself but I was in good hands.
I recommend getting a good cleaning beforehand and follow the instructions provided by the surgeon!

Had 2 impacted wisdom teeth on the bottom jaw, like the ones shown at the last example. Maxillofacial surgeon removed all 4 wisdom teeth (2 on upper jaw as well) within an hour, zero complications. Recovered within 10 days and stitches dropped at around 30 days.
The only "problem" was that the teeth were too close to the nerves and I had to get a lot of novocaine, to the point that my legs started shaking since I was maxed out ( a common symptom of high doses of novocaine, a Calcium channel blocker). Also, couldn't eat a lot during the first 2 days and the antibiotics were killing my stomach. After that it was easy peasy.

So I had my surgery yesterday, the 3rd kind. The surgeon had to cut into my gums and all that.
He gave me laughing gas per my request and after a few minutes I couldn't even feel the shots he did to numb my mouth (I was awake for the procedure). I was trippin' the whole time and even fell asleep for 30 minutes or so.
I still could hear him and his assistant talking and the tools, but I didn't care. I only felt tiny bit of pain when he started to dig in my gum to get the tooth. I've heard it break and then he started yanking - but I heard him struggle a bit and had to cut it into more pieces to get it out. Strong tooth. It took him 1 hour to pull it out.
The 2nd tooth was a bit easier I guess because he did it in like half an hour. Which was nice - I slept completely through it (that gas is AMAZING, I was flying).
Now I look like a hamster or a chipmunk, hiding food in my cheeks. It's swollen and a little sore. Not a lot of bleeding. Couldn't eat or drink for 3 hours because my mounth was sooo numb. He gave like 10 shots of anaesthetic. It wasn't bad, but I was soooo scared the entire time that I would feel something.
Now the healing begins. I also need to do my upper right tooth and get a bone transplant there. Fun.

I got two of my wisdom teeth removed years ago on the right side. The top of my left side came in and didn't take long to crack. My bottom left side is starting to grow in and has punctured the gum to where it hurts. I am waiting on my insurance to kick on in January and then I am getting those two removed. I so cant wait to be relieved of this discomfort. I would go tomorrow but I cant afford it without the insurance.
I will say this in regards to the process/operation I had to get the two removed on the right side. Just note I am pretty tolerant to pain. I wasn't put to sleep I was awake and they gave me plenty of numbing shots to reduce the pain. The worst part about it was the numbing shots with the needles, but like I said I am tolerant and needles have never bothered me. After that, it wasn't hard at all. I could feel the dentist tugging at my top tooth there was definitely pressure that you could feel, but there wasn't any noticeable pain. I don't remember much, but I do remember that I could feel a couple tears roll down my cheek which prompted the assistant to ask if I was ok. I was fine and wasn't in enough pain to cause the tears myself, I think it was just a bodily reaction or maybe without the numb shots it would have caused tears so thank God for that. My bottom tooth hadn't even emerged yet so they had to cut the gum to pull that wisdom tooth out. Maybe this was the tooth the few tears naturally came out, I don't remember much. I guess what I am getting at is that it isn't that bad at all and do not let the fear prevent you from getting your wisdom teeth removed. After they are removed you have to take very good care of the gum area to not cause an infection. This isn't that hard either. Also, afterwards I was given a nice prescription of some really strong pain meds. I was literally happy, smiling, and content with myself for the next almost week on the couch with not a care or pain in the world.
I would also recommend getting all 4 wisdom teeth taken out at one sitting. Do not do what I did and get 2 done at a time. Although mine wasn't by choice, my coverage had maxed out and I didn't want to pay full price for the other two. But, yes please get all 4 done as to not delay it and then you'll end up waiting until the pain is unbearable before ya go in again. It is worth it, the pain is very little if any as long as you have a good dentist and you will thank yourself for doing so.

I know some words, along with the alphabet, in ASL, so I tried really hard to spell my questions out. I ended up using the drawing app on my mom's phone, because I could write, but not speak. The doctor said that they also hit my sinuses while taking all 4 out, so I couldn't exercise for a few weeks.
I remember looking out the window and taking a few naps, before we got home. I was adamant about walking (for some reason), but I had to hold onto everything for dear life. I also remember writing in a leather sketchbook to my mom, but she wouldn't let me have my phone back until at least an hour passed.
I put on my favourite TV show on the 2nd episode, and then napped and woke up to I think the 13th? It was the 4th to last day of school as well, and I had therapy the next day. So I went there the next day, and then went back to school Thursday and Friday, for my last 2 days of 7th grade.
Would not recommend, though. I couldn't talk very well, and I was tired the entire time. I also had just gotten my braces off, so my nasty clear retainers became even nastier. I had to eat soft foods for a few weeks, though it felt like forever.
I distinctly remember opening my mouth wide so all of my friends could look inside my mouth, and see the holes in the back of my mouth. There is still a large divot at the back of my mouth, too, where they made the incision. Instead of a flat surface behind my molars, I got a little valley back there.

    4 hours post surgery;
I was awake during the whole process, didn’t feel a thing for the first 30-40 minutes, but since my tooth was so deep inside the bone the dentist had to use that drilling machine for a long time therefore i started to feel some tiny pain, it got worse during time but thank god in about 1hour 30mints everything was over.
Now im dealing with a massive pain, using ice and only drinking water and juices, i hope it gets better soon.

In 2012 I had my top pair of wisdom teeth removed in Mexico for $120. The actual procedure lasted about 10 seconds. The doctor took more time injecting me with anesthetic and waiting for it to take affect lol. He told me the trick was not to pull the teeth but to dig them out and he showed me a little tool that looked like a mini screwdriver. It was awesome.

I had 3 partially impacted wisdom teeth and 1 that was more so partially erupted. I had them removed 11 years ago when I was in high school. It really wasn't that bad because I went to a good surgeon and they numbed up my mouth so I wasn't in pain when I woke up from the procedure. When the anesthetic wore off though, that was painful. I slept a lot when I got home and took some stronger ibuprofen type pills that the Dr prescribed. I wasn't able to eat chewy foods for a few days and I wanted to take it easy. But the soreness wears off after a while and you forget you even had it done.

I made the mistake of glancing at the reflection of my dentist’s glasses while she was doing the procedure. Definitely would not recommend especially if you’re weak to the sight of blood like me.
Edit: All jokes aside, the procedure didn’t really hurt. The most painful part would be when you feel the anesthesia numbing your nerves but even that isn’t too bad. Just make sure that you find the right dentist (mine was really accommodating and would numb the area whenever I showed signs of discomfort/nervousness + gave me a print out instructions for aftercare). Though the real hard part is the recovery. It’s really different for everyone cuz I know people who recovered immediately (got stitches removed less than a week) while I had to wait 2-3 weeks. Just make sure you don’t have anything taxing planned out during the week of the surgery and get enough rest!

UPDATES- May not be good to read if you're scared. But will also help with tips!💜 Just my experience, we're all different
I got all taken out, I was fully conscious, saw and heard everything. The worst part of the whole procedure by FAR was 8 needles on my mouth, the rest barely felt like anything but a bit of pressure. I went into shock a fee times during the first tooth, not knowing what to expect. I was dizzy but all around fine, I walked up and down 3 flights of stairs alone and didn't have issues.
The healing process for me on the other hand has been hell. I got it done last Thursday and it's still a bloody damn mess! My bottom ones hurt like hell, 2 tylenols and lots of ice. I decided to try eating a hardish food, a cracker and I cup my gums open, its basically just a little flap (very stupid idea) but itll heal and doesn't hurt. Eating will give you pain, so less talking and chewing the better. All my stitches fell out rather than dissolved. Other than the bit of pain in my back bottom ones, it's not the worst thing ever. But it's definitely a pain in the ass.. and when they tell you NOT to lean your head back the first 1-2 days DON'T, swallowing excessive amounts of blood can't make you ill, I was let with a very sick feeling and nausea. Lay on stacked pillows, and keep gauze in while sleeping.! It's a must

When I got mine out the one on the bottom right was the closest to the nerve while the others were easier to get out (either by taking the whole tooth out at once or needing to break it a little) but otherwise having an iv and local anesthesia was my best friend at the time. As soon as I got the anesthesia I was out and bam, the doctor did the surgery, I woke up, went home, and slept basically the whole major part of the recovery and still have a bit of pain but otherwise I’m fine. okay so this is coming from someone who was stressing about this a month prior and i was bawling the morning of. but guys for whoever’s worried, as long as you have a good & experienced doctor you’re gonna be fine. laughing gas & local anesthetic is enough to calm you down & help you feel absolutely nothing. the most painful part is getting the numbing shots during the beginning & they’re really not that bad. like bro i had four full bony impactions and the surgery took like 10 minutes and i was fine 2-3 days after. get the good antibiotics & they should take away any pain you start feeling later if it’s really bad, which it shouldn’t be at least from my experience

Recommendations for anyone who needs extractions:
    - Find a clinic where they have laughing gas. For me, it made the hour-long procedure feel like ten minutes and the injections felt like intense pressure, but not painful.
    - Bring eye shades and music to listen to so you can zone out. I do wish I had worn noise-canceling headphones though, because the bone drill is very loud
    - Look into places where you can get it done with PRF. This is where they draw your blood, spin it in a centrifuge to separate the components, and use the plasma to fill in the socket after extraction. It speeds up the healing.
    - Get food that you can eat with a spoon for the first few days, like mashed potatoes and yogurt. A few days later I was able to have pancakes, and it was about a week before I was back to hard foods. No rice during that week, since it can get caught in the socket

All 4 of mine were fully impacted. I had asked at first to have just one removed during my appointments, but the recovery was so annoying and I was so anxious before each procedure that I needed medication just to stop me from shaking so bad that I shook the entire chair. I ended up asking my dentist, to just remove the last two in one appointment. Honestly, the pressure was bad, but the scraping and drilling the bone was the worst. I couldn’t feel anything but pressure, but the sounds will stay in my head for a long time. Especially that final “ripping” sound when the teeth were finally pulled out. Though apparently they were so large that they had to be pulled out in 3 pieces, and the roots of all 4 teeth were fused. I wasn’t knocked out, nor given gas or anything. I was simply frozen. I barely have any scarring, and they healed wonderfully, no nerve damage whatsoever. But the process of healing as I said, was annoying. Could only have liquids, and all my favourite foods were taunting me.

Hi! Similar situation to you in that I have two teeth that are fully impacted and two that are partially impacted. I'm contemplating removing them all in one sitting, but I don't know if it'll be too much for me if I'm only getting freezing 😂 I kinda want to get it all over with so I don't have to go back again! If you don't mind sharing, do you think your recovery with your two teeth was tougher than when you only removed one, or was it about the same?

    • @VampireSultana
      @VampireSultana 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@SapphireEchos It was about the same, honestly. I basically slept my recovery off. The moment I got home, I put a towel on my pillow and took a nap. Trust me on the towel. You’re going to be drooling and you don’t want blood on your pillow. You will need pain relief, and the soup, you’ll want something that has a bit of salt in it, like maybe tomato soup, It’ll help stop the bleeding and it’ll hasten the healing process. But you’ll need to take it easy. You’ve gotten a bit luckier than me. Mine were all fully impacted. Try asking if you can listen to music while in there to maybe cut out the drilling sounds. These are the tips I gave to my friend who recently got all 4 of his removed in one sitting. But I’m not a doctor, so it’d be best to listen to your dentist. Just for the recovery, lots of sleep and pain killers and soup lol but this is everything I did. 🤣

I had the biggest heap of anxiety when getting mine removed. It was so bad that I actually couldn’t stop shaking, even the chair was shaking! I had to be prescribed medication. Thinking back, she gave me a choice between removing them all at once or in different appointments. I should have chosen to get them removed all at once. That’s why, for the last appointment, I told her to just get the last two out at once. I almost begged lol. Just make sure to ask lots of questions. I asked did they start yet and they had 3 done already. Didn't take any pain meds that were prescribed and later that night if I wanted I could of went out and did errands. By sat night I was 75% better. I ate mashed potatoes first night and had a lot of ice cream milkshakes and frostys so buy extra ice cream. 2nd day I ate Mac n cheese.
