I take the whole watercolor tablet and drop in the water for a spray. Cheap ones work well for that

Can you just paint pages with coffee and a larger brush?

Carol, you could do that if you prefer. I like to really try to have the paper soak up the stain. Be as liberal as you want. ☕️📄
