You getting tuition, isn't really hurting or using someone. But your parents treatment of you is the least they owed. Not saying it's great or honorable. But when you have your whole family against you, you tend to be easily intimidated. Did they care enough to ask you how you were? I would have told people that they backed you into a corner. CAUSING the mental health issues.
The tuition funding was basically blackmailing her into keeping her mouth shut, and, being the manipulators they are, are now trying to put the blame on her "for taking benefit". It was either talk, and have to work 3 jobs at the same time for the rest of her life, or shut up and wait for a better opportunity to set things right.
Well, if you had been up front as soon as they happened, they wouldn't have what they did now. So to exclude you from ANY family thing was a low blow since you lost all your friends and mental health. So tuition isn't much to ask.
I fail to see how leo's sister is any more innocent by omission that the OP. Not much high ground there to stand and look down her nose from, from my perspective.
S1: self preservation is something inherent to human behaviour. We will rarely put ourselves in horrible situations just to be honourable. OP’s behaviour is completely understandable. Treated like a nobody by her parents and sibling, threatened to lose her education funds if she didn’t remain silent just to be completely omitted from what should have been a guaranteed invitation since other family members had been invited. There’s a lot of bull crap going on behind castle doors.
The right thing to do would be to quietly tell her BiL before the wedding. Make sure he investigates on his own and make your side anonymous. If he chooses to ignore it then you are absolved. I don’t understand why common sense stuff does not occur to people
OP should have gotten her education, then gotten a job far away and gone NC. Never should have posted anything and not cared. Her friends would not gave deserted her over what someone said, and how come her sister's affair with Leo wasn't exposed then?
This is a ridiculous story. So OP was ostracized because two grown people were having an affair? How was that her business? If the sister was so concerned about her brother why did she not approach the husband with proof? She had years of opportunity instead of throwing the blame on OP and not her adulterous brother. Sister was trying to protect her relationship with her brother so why was OP shunned for doing the same for her family?
(Before updates) OP, there are two parts to your story, it seems. Firstly was the situation that your sister had been the golden child, the recipient of your parents' love and you did not feel as though you were loved. So, you did not inform those, who might have benefitted, of the fact that your sister was cheating and that your parents had concocted a plan for their own financial gain, using your sister as a pawn. The reason you did not do this was because you wanted your parents to pay for your first degree, as they may have paid for your sister's, when you could have got loans and worked. This cost you friendships as, it was assumed, you supported the way your sister was behaving. You could have put this right and simply said that you have never supported anything your sister did, without clarifying. Leo has carried on an affair with your sister, who he seems to love, even though she is now married. He should see what sort of a person she is and the only person who deserved to know is your BIL. You made the wrong decision in not informing him of your knowledge, imo, for the sake of personal comfort in your studies, but it did cost you. The second part is your desire for vengeance after your parents neglected you in their Hawaii celebrations. There is a Chinese proverb which says " He who seeks revenge must dig two graves, one for the quarry and one for himself." I think you have found out the reality of that situation. The main wrong you have done here is in not telling your BIL about your sister's behaviour. That house of cards was likely to fall down at some stage anyway, but you could have saved him a lot of pain. You need to apologise to him. Depending on how he takes it and your relationship with him generally, he may allow you to be there to help him with your niece. If this does not happen, your best bet is to get away from all of them for a good, long time, imo. Make your own life, make your own friends and, importantly, learn from your mistakes so that you become a better person. Good luck, OP.
Op you are not better then your family you are actually on the same footing and same category as your whole family. Great that you’ve finally came out with the truth but the truth only came out bc of your hurt feelings in being left out of a holiday. Imagine if they didn’t go on holiday without you, you’d still be holding on to this secret
Oh wow that sure sounds like there is a whole lot of unfinished business there. I honestly kept waiting to hear that the daughter was Leo's and not the husbands. I hope the dad does get custody and that he gets a paternity test done
OP you are just as bad as the rest of the family. But at least they learned a valuable lesson. Don't piss off the person who knows your secrets. You held your tongue when it was good for you, then ratted them out when you got mad at them. Pretty much an ESH if I've ever seen one. Well played as they got what they deserved, but karma may have something for you too.
I don’t think OP is the villain here. Her family is yes she should’ve said something along time ago but her sister is actively cheating on her husband, even if it is a business deal.
OP is stupid. What her sister does is non of OP’s business. Don’t bother yourself with other people’s affair. Leo: stupid for blaming OP. Leo’s sister: another stupid one. Shaming OP at school… like why?? Go tell Melissa’s husband of the affair. Duh 🙄 Parents: 🙄
Damn, esh except bil and his parents. Ops parents and sister for obvious reasons. Op because she's just like them, had no problem with what was happening until she didn't get invited to the party. Leo because he was sleeping with someone he knew was in a relationship. Leo's sister for putting the blame on op when her brother was just as guilty as ops sister. And ops friends for ditching op but not Leo's sister.
Then. You getting tuition for 2 yrs, got your BA , OK. Mental health, look after yourself, OK. Petty revenge, OK 👍 👌 Now. Get a job and pay for your future degrees, great idea. Keep seeing your therapist and make new friends, great idea.
Everyone kinda sucks here but OP- and her BIL- are the least sucky ones in this story. It's disgusting how they played favourites and then tried to gaslight OP into thinking SHE was the morally bankrupt one, all to keep up a facade for the money....there are no winners when you play favourites with your children- and if something can be destroyed by the truth then it probably SHOULD be😒😒😒
L:OL Just how is Melissa going to get alimony and child support when A she cheated and it can be proved and B her soon to be ex has the kid....she and her parents are nuts if they think they will win this in court.
Spousal support in the USA has nothing to do with fidelity. It’s based solely on income and length of marriage. Child support is determined by percentage of custody and salary delta.
@@suebraun180 while some states recognize at fault for adultery (eCarolinas, Georgia, Mississippi, New York, Utah, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Idaho, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Illinois, Kansas, Florida, and Arizona) in reality it is often discarded during proceedings as impacting spousal support. For example in Arizona my neighbor filed for divorce because his wife was cheating. He was able to file at fault divorce but it didn’t impact spousal support at all.
So Leo's sister told OPs entire class at university but didnt tell Melissa's future husband? She is a really big AH.
Exactly. Why didn’t she tell the husband?
Maybe op should tell soon to be ex brother in law to dna test the kid.
Yes, she should. Melissa should not get away with cheating.
(I also like crochet!)

Yeesh. This was a mess.
If I was OP I would tell BIL to DNA test the child and go for full custody. Cause Melissa only wants the child to get more money!

Melissa ruined her own marriage by cheating
What marriage? She was forced to do that by her parents, she is also a victim of their parents.
