I think he’s saying that when he saw Billie, he felt envious of her bc she’s still so young and ultimately scared to grow up.

And, he was saying that seeing Billie reach high level of fame at such a young age (like he did when he was in one direction) broke the spell of him chasing the same relevance he once had while in the band & instead write music that his passionate about.
