Russ is Payton’s whipping boy, but Russ unwilling to r sure it to get better, and it’s working. Russ could simply play the style he played in Seattle, but he wouldn’t completely be the type of QB for Payton, who is quietly turning Russ into an amalgamation of hs old self and Drew Brees.
Yesterday, Payton sort of gushed as he spoke about Russ and his similarities to Drew Brees. Nick doesn’t have a clue.
Russ is building toward a point at which he will be dominating the league.

Not blaming the defense for giving up the most points in the nfl for over 60 years is laughable. If there ever was a game where you can put the blame solely on the defense, it was that one.
Sean wasn't just hired they gave a first round pick. So russ ain't the o ly drain.
And exchanged a 2nd round pick for a 3rd round pick. Which with the way things are working out could be almost as valuable as 1st round pick (say pick 36-40). Still the Saints don't look like they will win that many games either with Carr injured. This after trading away the farm for Russell Wilson. What Denver needs to do is set up Wilson like the Senator was set up in Godfather 2 so they can exercise their moral turpitude clause and get out of that contract. $85M dead cap in 2024. $50M dead cap in 2025. Wonder if there is a Purdy in the next draft.

Nick isn’t totally wrong on his Kelce-Jones theory, but he is underselling Travis as a personality, a handsome guy, and a celebrity. Part of the reason Andrews couldn’t get Taylor Swift to a Ravens game is because Lamar and the Ravens aren’t Mahomes and the Chiefs, but part of the reason is also because Mark Andrews isn’t Travis Kelce! Gronk is the only other tight end with that type of gravitas.

Russell is playing like he did in Seattle before he got hurt. He was always, ALWAYS poor on 3rd and long without a running game and relied majorly on Boom and Bust Deep Shots downfield, and miracles in the 4th quarter. MOST QBs regardless of what they got paid, are. Only the cream of the crop, the greats, are the exception to that rule. But Denver now has the Russell Seattle had for 10 years, which is, steady, efficient play, with sparks of greatness here and there on his own but whose frequency of exceptional play is mostly dependent up the level of talent and his connection to his supporting cast. THAT is who Russ has been and that is who he is being. If Denver and the media are expecting him to be something he has NEVER been, and if THEY paid him based off of a myth of what they wanted him to be, versus what he is, why is the media punishing HIM for it. Every time they criticize him, they mention his contract, irregardless of his stats and on field performance. They ridicule him for not getting mad, for not having emotionally wreckless outbursts, for trying to stay positive and they are obsessed with bringing up that man's wife and family situation. Joe Burrow just got the bag and is stinking up the joint, but he's hurt, so they give him a pass. Russell is not only in the best shape he has been in years, but he looks the best, in these 3 games, he has looked in 2 years. I wonder if they tried actually supporting him, earnestly, they would be rewarded for it. This is why Pete Carroll is LOVED by his players and I DOUBT Payton is loved the same. Russ is playinf better than SEVERAL other QBs this season. The Broncos D is the worst in the league this year and thats due to Payton firing a beloved Top 5 performing Defensive Coordinator and the defense is letting the team know what they thought about it.

Brady left NE because the roster was bare. Rodgers left GB because he wasn’t feeling his coaches or his weapons. Mahomes made up a fake injury after SB55 to conceal the fact that he couldn’t read defenses well enough to compensate for a second string O-Line btw, Russ played veggies worse O-Lines his entire career and made magic happen.
Mahomes doesn’t look nearly as good without proper weapons and protection.
Your post sounds downright silly because, if anything, Russ has been one if the few QBs you could count on to produce without stars around him.
He has never had a Tyreek Hill or a Travis Kelce. He always had below-average protection, and his HC and O.C. weren’t very inventive.
You wrote a long post full of unsupported arguments. If there was ANY QB you could trust over the2020s to win without stars around him it was Russ.
And for the record, Beast Mode didn’t come into his own for real until Russ was drafted. He showed glimpses, but Russ’s dual/threat ability opened up the LoS for Beast Mode.
The LoB? Russ made them better by expertly executing Pete’s offense and keeping them off the field. They always had fresh legs.
Furthermore, what did they ever accomplish before Russ was drafted?
The Seahawks had an elite Defense, Marshawn Lynch, and (in 2010) Matt Hasslebeck, plus a better O-Line. All they accomplished were back-to-back 7-9 seasons.
I can name too many instances in which Russ CARRIED those dudes! I am from Seattle, and I’m a data scientist who specializes in sports analytics.
I can tell you with complete certainty that Russ is an all-time great by any measure.
He’s one of the greatest playmakers ever. No one has been better at extending plays and finding guys downfield or on intermediate shots.
Russ’s only flaw, and he’s correcting that right before our eyes, has been his reluctance to use the middle of the field. He’s playing more on schedule these days. Believe it or not, Russ may become a better QB than he ever was in Seattle, which is scary.
Without Russ, the Seahawks not only don’t sniff any Super Bowls, Pete Carroll is likely out of a job by 2013 or 2014, which Pete admitted in the fall of 2021 when Russ was injured.
Quit talking like Russ is Trent Dilfer. He’s a HoF WB, and T this point listed in at least one top-20 all-time list above Ben Rothlisberger at #17.

Everything I said in defense of Russ is fact. He isn't Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning. That doesn't mean he isn't a good and you do not have to be the greatest to make it into the HOF. There are plenty of QBs who are definitively worse than him, in the HOF so stop. He isn't perfect. He also isn't as good as Denver wants him to be, but he is certainly better than anyone is giving him credit for. He has ALWAYS struggled on 3rd and Long and when it came to taking shots across the middle, even when he was statistically putting up his best numbers. Doesn't mean he's a bum or a scrub, those are just his flaws. Brady was always bad against teams with a great pass rush but he was still one of the most efficient to ever play the game. I never said Russ wasn't an HOF QB, nor did I say he wasn't playing well, I merely said that Denver's expectations of him are too high and their criticism of him has been unfair this year given that Russ is playing exactly like he used to, and with Jeudy back I expect it to get even better.
