Sports are not competition; they are entertainment. That’s where the money comes from. Duncan was always more effective than Kobe, but Kobe makes the money (because he was more entertaining), so he is the one that gets into the GOAT debate. CC makes the money, and if the WNBA wanted to be taken seriously as a business they would utilize that.

Doing this while on the worst team in the league, might have something to do with turnovers. I think we should probably pull terry Bradshaw and Joe Namath from the hall of Fame because they threw more interceptions than touchdowns in their career. @@butchklumb7128Diana Taurasi is averaging virtually the same amount of ppg as Clark(Taurasi actually has a slightly higher average), virtually the same amount of rebounds per game (Clark has a slightly higher average). There is separation in Clark’s favor pertaining to assists, just as there is clear separation pertaining to Clark’s penchant for turning the ball over. The biggest separation (as is the case with all of them) is her lack of prowess as a defender. You claim age as a factor, but Taurasi is her current age while putting up offensive numbers comparable to Clark, being more secure with the ball, and a clearly better defender. Additionally, she has the experience from being on the team and playing within this system. Certainly Bradshaw and Namath are Hall of Fame quarterbacks, but if you were asking me to compare them to other quarterbacks who have comparable numbers with markedly less interceptions, I’ll take the quarterbacks who are more secure with the ball. Also, if you’re using those two examples, the reason why Namath and Bradshaw are in the Hall of Fame is because of their ability to win at the highest level in the biggest moments, which Taurasi’s proven (both in college and in the WNBA). I assure you, comparing Clark to any of the other guards leads to equally shaky (or worse) arguments.

Age might be a factor if Taurasi weren’t her current age putting up comparable numbers on offense, being more secure with the ball, & a clearly better defender. Certainly Namath & Bradshaw were Hall of Famers, but if you’re asking me to compare them to qb’s with similar numbers & less interceptions, then I’m taking the less interceptions. Also, Namath & Bradshaw have won on the highest level, which Taurasi’s done, both in college & in the pro’s. Now if the USA team didnt bring rookie in the passed then you could say their arguments are true to who they have been. But knowing their pass when DT was chosen for her first Olympics was she one of the top 12 players in the WNBA? Call it biased as a Jets fan, but Aaron Rodgers has quite literally been at every single voluntary workout from the time we traded for him until now. Is it a bad look to miss day one of a mandatory event? Yes. But let's not act like he's been putting football aside all offseason, because he hasn't. I've never seen a football player get so much hate for every little thing they do wrong. I guess that's the price you pay for being one of the greats.

Once again, an Aaron Rodgers apologist. The key word is MANDATORY. I don't care who you think you are, you send the wrong message to your team about your committment to them when you fail to show when EVERYONE ELSE on the team has to be there. He's supposed to be a LEADER? That's a joke. He is, and has always been, a SELFISH player. Why do you think Green Bay dropped him like a lead balloon? It's not "every little thing". The head coach is trying to build this team the right way, and Rodgers is creating an unnecessary distraction once again. It's his MO. It's always all about him, not the team. I know he's your "savior". Be careful who you cling your hopes to.

The "not be playing a ton" argument is pointless. Throw Caitlyn Clark in for a couple of minutes, she takes up to 5 shots, hits a 3 and the crowd goes wild.
Yah, there would still be backlash for those unrealistically expecting her to play more. But that backlash/distraction would be far less than leaving her off the team. And now she's probably an alternate as if that will alleviate anything.
Also, this business about the Olympic basketball committee only being concerned with winning gold is completely bogus. For decades they have been talking about how important it is that the Olympic athletes be ambassadors of their sport.
The only close reason to leave her off the team would be if there was someone selected that has deserved and worked hard to be selected. And that this was their final chance and selecting Caitlyn would take that person's spot. That would be a really bad move. But if such person doesn't exist on the roster, then there is no other credible reason.
And then there is the how do you know? How do you know she won't burst on the scene or have some sort of relatable growth? She is a pretty good passer. I doubt her Olympic teammates will object to free layups even if she doesn't take many shots.

@@SportsBossMan I can if you like. In a league of 140 players, there are only 12 with a worse defensive rating than her (none of which made the team). Every guard on the team commits less turnovers per game. While the potential of her offensive prowess still remains high, she hasn’t actually produced numbers that are superior enough to the women on the team. There are others with a better points per game average and a better assist per game average, and none of them give up the turnovers (granted, some of which are the results of players not handling her passes, but certainly not all of them) or present as the defensive liability that she is.

You cant say Caitlyn Clark is wet behind the ears or she's too new. CC has outscored all those girls in college, and she's more popular than all of them too.
*The narrative is that the women basketball team want "proven", "experienced" players who have played with each other before. The narrative doesn't stand knowing that they have broke that rule for those 3 but not CC. Stat wise she is as good as they were when they were rookies, just much more assist per game than any of them in their first 12 games. The point is she needs to be on the team, no matter if she's riding the bench or getting 5 minutes a game. Their narrative just doesn't hold up and seems to hide ulterior motives.
