I am so pleased that at last I hear someone who, like me, cannot see any comparison between Lara and Celine. Their interpretive abilities, their vocal technique, the tone of their voices are all so different. Celine is a good singer but for me she is not in the same league as Lara.

best comparison of Lara and Celine I've ever heard - wish i would have said it - my (maybe poorly worded) verbal comparison is " Celine is great, talented, and all you can want .... but sings commercially acceptable while Lara is also great, ultra talented, but with her you want more ,,, she sings from her heart and my heart hears.

Agreed. Since the first day I heard her sing Je Suis Malade I can't get enough. Love love love her. By the way, Jim Ballard, you didn't go to Thornridge High School in Dalton, Illinois back in 1965 or so. I knew someone by that name but haven't heard it since my school days.

You know that that is the song she was requested to sing in her first appearance in Montreal on Valentine's night at a major TV show. There was a snow storm that night, everyone was locked home, and she had over 3 millions viewers discovering her. While she had sold 10,000 copies of her first album in two years, 100,000 copies were sold in the following week... As they say, the rest is history. You can find that performance on youtube...

Ah ah, that’s funny. I always tell myself that if Lara was to record a bedtime stories audiobook, I’d buy it for me, not for my kids.
She has a distinctive voice when she’s talking compared to when she’s singing.
But her speaking voice is super soothing to me. Every time I have watched her in interviews, no matter the language, it’s like a peaceful harmony in my brain. 😊

These two are her parents, and they are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this very day. They are in the auditory, and so she will sing the next song as a gift for them.

    Hi
I find that you are one of these rare persons who is really connected to Lara's art. Indeed, you notice each and every single and subtle details that others don't.
Moreover you don't just react to her most famous songs but you pay attention to other songs which are less known.
Please react to live performances of "comme ils disent" (a cover of a famous song and which not demonstrates her vocal abilities but rather her acting abilities) and "Bambina" (which is an other side of her vocal talents in high notes)
Keep on doing the Great Job!
Thank you so much for all your reactions

I wonder what Whitney and Dolly may have thought about this rendition....
About that eternal comparison of Lara with Celine - I too do not see so many similarities. After listening to the ladies for more than thirty years, I tend to think that it is a typical media thing, something to write about.
Funny enough, I discovered both the same evening in 1988 when they took part in the European Song Contest.

Another great reaction to the Fantastic Fabian.
You know, before a couple of years ago when I discovered Fabian and was immediately blown away, I had really liked many singers but there was only one who stopped me in my tracks. I'm programmed to love contraltos (which made my instant enchantment with the lyric Fabian extra unique) and Sarah Vaughan was a masterful contralto with a 4 octave range. A master of technique, like Fabian. And a Sassy performer (her nickname).
I'm wondering if you would consider bringing a reaction to her to your chanel to spread awareness of one of the all-time greats in American music? I gave a lot of thought on what song to recommend to those new to her and settled on one that 1) is a song I HATED in its original Broadway and film incarnations (hated!) and 2) Vaughan sings in a style that is just NOT my favorite: cool jazz. It's Maria from West Side Story, and in Vaughan's hands, it's a masterpiece imo.

Then of course I hope you do 293 more Fabian reactions too. 🤣

Poor Guitarist! "Get outta the way you! I'm not here for YOU!" Hilarious.
Nothing tops Whitney's original, but what I notice here is the contrast. You're right; Lara has a more 'intimatist' style. Also Whitney's transitions are very definite and dramatically marked, whereas Lara's are more smooth & fluid. I suspect that this reflects not only their individual styles but also their different vocal training. For me they're both incredible & mesmerising artist's & 'Equal Firsts' !

Lol, well I was trying to hear Lara sing! 😝

2:32 She is saying, "Alor" _not_ "Hello" or "Allo(alo)" or some variation etc. "Alor" is a filler, bridge word/expression akin to saying "(and) so"/"then" in English

Hi, I think the bouquet was an impulse at the moment, a way to thank in return the audience but I felt sad for the folk who gave it to her … At least she took it.

Whitney does this better but this is live performance which makes a difference - Lara is the most passionate singer I've ever heard - Vocally Celine a is little more nasally but they do have similar sound at times - What sets Lara apart is the incredible emotion in her voice

This video must be like 30 years ago. I am still wondering why you all guys choose very old videos from her. You all say because it was her best years. But she released maybe 8 albums since then. This voice you hear doesn't exist anymore. She doesn't sing like that now. And that's normal. She aged. It would be interesting to react to nowadays songs and see how her voice sounds now. Not 30 years ago.

Maybe not in the wrong venue, but not in the proper character of the song. An example of a guitarist who has no clue what a melody is...

Did you really write, “originally by Whitney Houston”? Dolly Parton wrote this song (words & music), and recorded it in 1973. Her original, tender, heartfelt version is so much better than Whitney Houston's overblown, bombastic cover that there's no contest. Unfortunately, Lara follows some of the stylistic corruptions introduced by the cover version, rather than the simple, intimate beauty of the original. But then, Lara can sing anything, and does a superb job here, as always.

Thumbs down. This was NOT originally by Whitney Houston. This was a cover by Whiney Houston. I don't think Whiney Houston ever did anything that wasn't a cover. This song was written and sung by Dolly Parton in the 70's when Whitney was a kid.
