  • Today, I am setting up my very first 2024 reading journal. Mostly copied off ‪@PlantBasedBride‬, I'm very excited to use this journal. I've never attempted to create a journal like this before, so this will be a fun trial for me! This is a square Archer and Olive Journal.

    Love your reading journal. Love the calligraphy. Monthly stats are easier to keep up with than yearly stats.

      Otherwise maybe my bullet journal 101 series can provide some inspiration that is easier to copy th-cam.com/play/PL8Q8NQDiDC9MCk-BUiq25ZUhb0UiIsCKf.html&si=QkBJQQ49PWrs4GFb
      But I will endeavour to make some more beginner friendly videos in the new year !

    I love this setup!! I use an app called storygraph for my reading stats. It technically can be used alone but i use it alongside goodreads because i like the gr interface better, but sg shows you a bunch of cool stats monthly and yearly! I usually input all my books for the month at the end and then i get to look at cute pie charts every month and year! Hope this helps, new sub here to watch your bujo/readjo progress

    I would suggest doing monthly stats. First, having monthly stats makes it much easier to collect annual stats. Second, seeing how you’re doing each month as far as your goal helps you to better select reads. For example, if a goal is to read a better variety of genres, seeing in, say August, that you’ve read no historical fiction, might encourage you to make a historical fiction novel your next read. Enjoyed your spreads!

    On a monthly basis I track number of books, number of pages, format, author’s sex, number of new books purchased, rereads. Separately I track genres, language, if book is stand alone or part of the series, days it took to read a book and its rating.

    • @Verobujo
      @Verobujo  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the tips! I will definitely be adding that, although I find it hard to track pages since I read on both physical books, e-reader and audio so it’s hard to determine the pages on the second two! How do you do it for those usually?

    • @burnedbooks
      @burnedbooks 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Verobujo for audiobooks i do not track hours cause i listen on speed 1.25 or 1.5 and it's hard to say how many hours it really was vs how many they declare by default, but i find equivalent book on goodreads and take number of pages from there, same with ebook/kindle really. I assume someone simply read me same number of pages :D

    Woahhh, your 24 books in 2024 list is so similar to my tbr list on Goodreads! I think that's a list I'll create as well. It's a good way to ensure I'm reading books on my tbr and not just adding to the list, month after month.

    I grew up in South Africa. If you need some ideas for African authors, the following books were set works for English literature in high school in the 1980s:
    Cry, the beloved country - Alan Paton (South Africa)
    The grass is singing - Doris Lessing (Zimbabwe)
    Things fall apart - Chinua Achebe (Nigeria)
    If you only read one book by an African author, then it should be The Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela

    • @Verobujo
      @Verobujo  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much for the recommendations, I’ve added all of these to my TBR, I certainly aspire to read more than just one but I will start with Nelson Mandela’s !

    Loooove it. For the reviews I would limit one's self to a size. Fro example one page for a book or half a page for a book. Come up with the rating system. Very popular one is CAWPILE from Book Roast. Also my favorite spread is the one that's god all the book covers for the year. I usually do the tracker of how many books I read in a form of book covers, then it's a very colorful page to look back on. I'm sure you'll love it and with the goal of 70 books, you ARE an avid reader. :)

    • @Verobujo
      @Verobujo  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much! I’ve never heard of the cawpile system, so I’ll look into that! And i love the idea of having a monthly reading wrap up with the book covers (is that what you mean?) or do you mean like a yearly wrap up with all the book covers ?

    • @slastenushkaslast3402
      @slastenushkaslast3402 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So in my own journal I did yearly tracking of books I read, but instead of doing circles or little squares, I did 54 (that's my goal) spaces for book covers. So I have my entire year at a glance as my tracker with book covers. It's very very colorful already :) I started my year in December :) monthly one is also a great idea. It gives you such a colorful page to look at, especially if you also add like little stars at the bottom for your reviews so at a glance you'll see how entire month or year went :) I also did my TBR as a page that is constantly updatable. Cause I'm just like you hard to commit a year in advance. So I printed about 15 or so book covers in a form of stickers that I want to read, and I placed them on TBR page with like a little sticky dot. So when I read that book I take this little cover out of TBR page and place it in my tracker.. And that frees up a spot for new TBR. So when I'm done with the book and I want to read smth new, I go to my TBR page and choose a book cover I want :) I like interactivity of this

    I really loved your reading journal set-up. It turned out beautifully!! I cannot wait to see how you use it. I have one question. Can you explain how you use the brackets to pick your favorite book of the year? Do you pick your favorite book of the month and they go head to head? I would really like to do this in my reading journal this year. Thanks so much!!!❤❤❤

    • @Verobujo
      @Verobujo  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’m doing a 24 in 24 this year but it’s mostly made up of the books I’ve had on my TBR the longest (digital and physical) and books a friend lent me last year that I didn’t get to.

    Ooh I see you want to read Cultish - have you read Wordslut? I think I liked Wordslut more than Cultish but they were both great. Also want to recommend "Because Internet" by Gretchen McCulloch if you're interested in linguistics :)
    If you like Babel, I'd also rec 'If We Were Villains'!
