Haha! I've been there too. I work a little harder at the set up spreads since I refer back to them so often. Pirate vibes are so fun! I love a great adventure story. Happy journalling! 🏴☠️🖤
Inspiring you is the best compliment ever. 🥰 PLEASE start a reading journal! They are so much fun, and you will have even more fun reading. You can do so much with just washi tape alone. I highly recommend the Wave PET tape. The quality is perfect and it's so easy to work with. 🌊
Amanda, this is STUNNING! I love the theme and how creative you got with all the titles ❤ I'm looking forward to following along with some of these spreads in my journal too. Thank you for sharing!
Absolutely fantastic and gorgeous 😍 I really liked the evolution of your reading journal! The theme, the style - perfect! Very thoughful and well made 💙
Thank you! My style has definitely changed over the years of keeping a reading journal. I started doing my monthly recaps this year, and that really helped me discover my style. Still, it's so much fun to look back at some of the spreads I did in my first journals, remembering what I was so proud of, and what I wasn't 😂. Thank you for watching and taking a moment to encourage me!
Oh my GOSH! This theme is amazing! I LOVE PIRATES! I may need to copy every single page. . . . Thank you so much for the inspiration and sharing ❤ 🏴☠️
I watch a ton of reading journal videos and yours is definitely my favorite so far for this coming year! I love your NEW unique takes on ideas I’ve seen a million times. I’m so inspired to make my own journal actually themed this year now. ❤
Thank you! I think of both of those worlds often, so it was a given to incorporate them into my journal. I do regret not having many gems or mermaids in my set up, and I plan to add them in later. I had ordered stickers but I wasn't happy with them when they finally arrived. I feel like Fable needs her gems though 😂 💎
OMG! This is stunning! I love pirates and have this journal as well so I have to copy these layouts!!! I’m so excited to do it! How did you get the torn edges so even? I’m watching your video now and you said it was torn but it looks so even. Thanks
Hi Stephanie! I'm so glad you found it inspiring. Pirates are great thieves, so copy anything your heart desires 🏴☠️ Since the Archer & Olive journal pages are so thick, it's pretty easy to control the tearing. I tore the edges within the border of the page, and the first dotted column on the page. So regardless of how many hills and valleys there were, they all were roughly the same length. I just did it to the left and right side, and left the top and bottom edge straight. I'd love to see your journal when it's finished, if you care to share. 🖤
I read so many series, so that is the only layout that has worked for me that doesn't feel cluttered. The "Once upon a time" - first line page is new for me too so we can experience it together. 🌊
@@manda_made I read a lot of series as well, and the way I set up the page now I just do not have enough space to write down all of them. I will definitely incorporate this one. The once upon a time spread is already making me excited!

This is a stunning reading journal! Here I was, trying to decide if I wanted to go for an overall theme or not; found myself convinced I believe 😄 Again, wonderful spread and ideas!

I can't believe I've only just discovered them. This is my favorite new tool! My kit came with a couple shades of brown ink, but I saw they also sell all the colors. Have you used other colors before? Im trying to picture something with a blue edge looking vintage, but I just haven't tried it.

I just read DOTPK series this year and it was so cute. Both are examples of what a YA adventure story should be. I cannot wait for you to fall in love with my favorite characters! 🏴☠️🫶🏻

Thank you so much for the compliment! 🤩 I feel like I've finally found my groove in journalling. Even looking back to January when I started, or last years journal. Highly recommend a monthly reading journal as it helps "tone the muscles" of a style.
Thank you! The planning is so important. I probably spent as much time planning out my journal as actually laying glue to paper. It will be worth the wait and I would love to see it when its complete! ️🌊
This is so beautiful, I definitely don’t have the imagination to make spreads this stunning. I personally chose to use a TN size journal from notebook therapy for my reading journal because I was intimidated by the size of my A5 journal.
The travelers notebook is one I have yet to try. I like the thin dimensions of it though. I think it will make a great option for a reading journal! 🏴☠️🖤
Looks nice! I'm also keeping a journal. Debating whether to do one reading journal or two- I kinda like the idea of having my manga and history seperate. Decorating my bookmark and making the layouts are the next steps. I really like using a ribbon/cord clamp to protect the ribbon from fraying, then hanging beads off it.
I think the more journals the merrier! I don't read Manga, but I have thought of having a separate journal for books in a series, since I don't always read a series back to back. I also want to start a separate journal for films and TV. I like the beaded ribbon idea! 🤩
I also love archer and olive! I tried for the pirate ship but it was sold out 😂 I got the owl in the attic 8x8 and I’m in love and having so much fun building it out for 2025!
You are so talented and have such great ideas!!! Thank you so much for the inspiration!!! I'm going with a vintage academia for my 2025 reading journal🫶
You are so creative and talented. This is gorgeous. I'm doing my first reading journal for 2025 and I'm wishing I would have done a them because this is amazing. Also can you explain how to get started with the magical readathon? That sounds really cool.
Hi Emily! I am SO excited for you to start your first reading journal!!! You are going to have so much fun. I really enjoy the Magical Readathon. Here is a link to @bookroast 's video on how to get started. th-cam.com/video/CtBWB6ATEdQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=879d5eUlA0h8eeo8 I would recommend looking through the google drive documents first before joining the discord. You'll find a quiz called "the Novice path" which will sort you into your guild, and you'll also need to make a character. When you do join the discord, go to the "Welcome to Orilium" TAB first, which tells you where everything is and lets you officially join your guild. Then, after G announces the new 2025 "year in Aeldia," you'll just follow one prompt a month until we meet up at our Spring and Autumn Equinox's. There's a lot of info, but don't be afraid to ask questions in the discord! Everyone there is so helpful. 💜
@@emilyhill7622 Sorry! I mis-remembered. "The Novice Path" is in the Discord, but in the google drive there is a summary of the quiz (without the story) called "Guild Sorting Choices." It's the same thing, but the discord will have the full story behind the choices.
OMG, I set up my reading journal in the exact same notebook, LOL! I've never actually used a square journal before, but I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to try it out since there were just a couple fun spreads that I wanted the extra space for. It's going to last me at least 2 years, though (because my physical journal is a fun supplement to my digital trackers), so I matched my theme to annual pages in my main journal. My plan is to stick with the same color palette all year, and then switch to a new one for the following year to create contract.
That’s a great idea! My first reading journal lasted me three years, but I wasn’t doing monthly spreads yet. I also shifted the colors around for some visual contrast. 🏴☠️👍🏻
It's the only Lucy Foley book I haven't read, and I'm both excited to read it, but also afraid of the very tiny font LOL. Would love to learn more about Istanbul. I will think of you as I read it!
@ oh it was really good i read it as an assignment for school it was very bittersweet and if you dont like the font i suggest the audiobook its very good in my opinion too many hugs from istanbul 🫶🏻
I have the A5 Wayfinding journal for my 2025 journal, but I’ve got an 8x8 square journal in the “Frame Wall” design for my reading history book. I will keep a record of my books in my regular journal as I go along, but then I will have stats to put in my reading history journal at the end of a year.
If you don't mind ya books the peter and the star catchers series by Ridley Pearson fits your theme perfectly and they are a great retelling of peter pan. There is lots of fantasy and it gets pretty dark in some spots.
Thanks for the recommendation! It's on my TBR list now. I love darker, more complex Peter Pan retellings... then again, Darling Girl has been sitting on my shelf for a while now... haha
I wish anyone good luck if they wanna try Archer and Olive because after black friday sale they are out of everything. 😅 I was going to try them but went to Notebook Therapy and got some also quickly selling out items there. This journal you have set up is next level. I like the writing the first line of the book idea. I havent seen that idea in any other creators journals
So true! Trust me, alarms get set early for the A&O launches because I've been so sad at missing out at some of the most beautiful journals 😂 Notebook Therapy journals are awesome too! They are very similar quality. I only wish they had an 8x8 size. This is my first time doing the first line idea. I've seen it around but I think most people give it up because they forget to keep up with it. Hoping that having at the front of my journal will keep it going.
Thank you! It is my first time doing the "first lines" spread, so I'm not sure exactly. I think I will do the authors initials, and write each line in alternating pens to distinguish between them?
It's in the works! In the meantime, my friend @RyeMiArt has an Orilium journal setting up all the documents, and @samanthadonovan has a journal that is more of a character diary. Mine will be a mix of both of those things.
wow! Your journal is beyond gorgeous! If you haven't read the Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi yet, you may want to check it out. It is a strong female pirate ship captain novel :)
It's been on my TBR for so long! I've heard amazing things... sounds like one to add to my Christmas list 🏴☠️🎄 Thank you for watching and taking a moment to comment 🫶🏻
This is a very beautiful journal theme. I’m sorry though, I couldn’t deal with those busy hands in front of the camera😅 EVERY BuJo-TH-camr does it and it gives me hives haha
HAHAHAAA! I totally know what you mean. During my set-up videos, my hands are busy crafting, but in a flip-through I don't know what to do with them. Hope you enjoyed the recap at the end where it is less busy! 😅
Hi Belinda! I use the free version of Canva to create elements I can't find elsewhere, and print them out on my printer. To make the backlist cards, I divided a page into 8ths, and typed in each of the books with the publishing year. I printed them double sided to save space. I found all the information on Goodreads. For the seven seas, I found a simple map, and zoomed in to where the seven seas were located. I cut around the border of the map and pasted it on a page of stationery paper with text. Then I labeled each of the seas. The pockets for the Magical Readathon are just banners I made on Canva with the months written on them. I cut them out and just glued the left and right side of the banner down so the middle would be free to slip the book cover in later.
Your journal is absolutely stunning! I love the theme and how creative you are with the titles. And the torn edges?! Fabulous!
I can't decide if I should continue the edges throughout the journal or stop here 😂 help me decide!

I love the idea of a “first lines” spread! What a great idea! Are you going to include the name of the book and author-or just the first line?
Thank you! It is my first time doing the "first lines" spread, so I'm not sure exactly. I think I will do the authors initials, and write each line in alternating pens to distinguish between them?
@ Oh I love that idea! It will be fun at the end to read all the first sentences together-see if they tell a story!
@@aprilsmith8014 True! A wild story for sure. haha
I would love to see a video of you Aeldia reading journal
It's in the works! In the meantime, my friend @RyeMiArt has an Orilium journal setting up all the documents, and @samanthadonovan has a journal that is more of a character diary. Mine will be a mix of both of those things.
How long did this take you! So amazing!
I’ve been working on it for 3 weeks off an on, but totally worth it! 🏴☠️🌊
@ I gave it 5 stars, and I’m kind of stingy with my stars. I hope you love it !
@@Kritz_Reads OKAY now I HAVE to read it. That is high praise. I give stars to everything hahaha
How did you make the cards with the back lists and the seven seas country
And also the pockets for the months on your bookroast page
@@manda_made thank ypu so much
This is stunning! Great job. Loved watching this video.
