Nice. Looking forward to how long you can get this land train. Really digging the excavator/front loader miner and ramp , such a fun way to dig. some suggestions; -While tunneling you could use the new solar panels to save on block placement . - Put some heavy armor plates under the refineries & cargo to act as skid plates so you dont end up a sadboy . - Setting up sensors on the front and back of lift to help with lining up, & knowing if you are & forward/backward clearance.
i think the length will depend on how many tow bars i can have before it just clangs out, but ill be happy to test it for you guys. as for the solar panel idea, its a good idea as 1 steel plate is allows 4 blocks in length however steel is cheap and i don't always remember to do stuff like this but it may mean i have to place blocks less often. im not two worried about armouring the underside of the refineries and cargo as there is quite allot of ground clearance and i don't plan on driving on rough terrain
I've really enjoyed watching this rover together. I think a 3rd command rover up front with living quarters would look cool. Maybe you could try to fit a small scout or combat rover that deploys from the front of the lead command car. Adding some large windows along the roof of each car might make the interior feel less cramped. Also it could be helpful to have a small cockpit on each car could be helpful, so each one can be separated and controlled independently. Allowing you to easily break up the train if you get it stuck in a bad spot and will make hooking up the cars much easier if you decide to leave a car or two behind to explore without the extra weight. Keep up the good work!
I really like the idea of having more sections that i can attach and detach at will. i feel like i will be having at least 3 modules most of the time the front control canter and living facilities (I also like the scout ideas), the back module which holds vehicles and finally the middle one which is cargo and production. i may add up to 5+ modules in the future.
43:03 "Share inertia tensor" should be on on everything but the articulation that connects to the heavy part. I guess in your case that might mean having it on everything except the 2 pitch hinges. I.e. only the roll rotor and the single yaw hinge.
Is this a "no flyers" challenge? Because if not, I thought it might be cool to have a scout that is merge-blocked to the front-most section, so that you can drive the rover and take off for a scouting flight without ever leaving your cockpit. I got the idea by noticing how flat the top of the front rover is , and how suited that would make it for a helipad. And it's inspired by Blackshadow's modular ship that she recently started on Splitsie's "RVs At War" series. And Splitsie has his Taco + Burrito combo in his "Underground Alone" series, which does this exact thing, though with remote control blocks. With the remote control technique, you could even make the refinery section pull the rest (and use it's high weight to your advantage). With the added advantage that having your character further to the back apparently reduces the risk of the 3rd person camera getting obstructed. Also, while I'm suggesting things: How about a section that gives you more easy access to the section you're working on without having to place unwelded armor blocks and grind them all the time? My first idea was a crane / cherry picker on one of the sections. Ideally with direct cargo access to your production.
Your vehicles look really cool. I'd just advise on finding a better way to drill. Having to place a floor as you dig might be realist or something, but it's not a good use of your time.
It’s Kevin not Nigel lol, I don’t always use my alt account as it requires both pcs to be on. And yes the wheel loader does have a ore detector if I remember correctly
@ my wheeled mining experience is limited, is it as easy to do as you make it seem, or is there a three hour blooper reel of flips, explosions, rolls and mishaps?

@@quantumchief 5+ sections! Thats going to be a monster land train. Im looking forward to watching it grow

Is Nigel on strike? I thought he was your time lapse boi? And I might have missed it, but do you have an ore detector?
