- It was an exciting game between Ian Nepomniachtchi and D. Gukesh at the FIDE Candidates 2024. Gukesh had a clear advantage out of the opening and Ian was trying his best to hold the position. But then something happened which made both the players get confused, then call the arbiter and eventually smile about it. What happened exactly? I have a doubt at 8:14 if gukesh played bishop b5 to c6 taking the knight and if nepo taking bishop at c6 with pawn at b7 and there was the best move for gukesh he could have played bishop e3 to a7 attacking the rook and nepo had no chance of killing the bishop at a7 even if nepo played bishop e7 to d6 protecting the rook then gukesh could easily take bishop at d6 with rook at d1 wow what a game this was wonderful enjoyed a lot 😍😍
Edit:- sorry I didn't realise that nepo's rook at b8 attacking directly to gukesh's knight at b3 😮 that would have been a big blunder for gukesh though if he had played as I thought of I have to improve my chess I guess 🥲

FIDE invest in better clocks(!) I bet Nepo is super angry with this issue - for him it’s his third try from the start!! They cannot afford such issues in the candidates tournament tbh.

Dgt’s are okay but made in China and yes there is a better one… the ‘Silver’ official timer of German Bundesliga. It’s Fide approved , German engineered and designed many years ago with input by Kortchnoi , if memory serves me well.

It is the FIDE flag, because the Russian flag is banned by FIDE due to the Russia-Ukraine War. That's why all Russian players have been playing under the FIDE flag.

Nepo is representing FIDE as Russia has been effectively banned due to the invasion. Nepo doesnt mind tho as he was quite against Russias decision
