    I can't believe this guy was just doing rhythm guitar (pretty much volumed down) for show with Jeff Beck, he is so talented and nailing it almost like Setzer. They should've done some lead guitar combo, I know Jeff Beck is golden tier but this guy definitely deserved to play in more leading role. Anyway, like him, he is so humble and yet so skilled.

    Darrel certainly has the chops when it comes to Euro-Rockabilly, which I much prefer. Always, he is authentic and honest in his playing and renditions. A real joy live - thank you Darrel.

    Great little lesson! I come from a downstroke powerchord type of playing so this is nice and challenging! I appreciate you taking the time to show us some chops and tasty licks!

    Would love to learn this, where would you begin and what are the steps of practice, ie learn finger picking first, learn chords, or both together, practice on short riffs similar to learning Banjo uke short riffs.

    Hi Darrell I have just brought a Peavey Rockingham and want to learn how to play original Rockabilly.Can you please recommend a good starting point i.e would you learn Rhythm first or bearing in mind I'm now 53 years old would you just copy songs off You Tube?

    Yeah I got a bug recently when I started looking at Eddie Cochran videos and listening to his music and then I discovered Brian Setzer who I thought was fantastic, however I actually think Darrel Higham is a better player than setter and more authentic to the rockabilly style. I’ve been playing guitar for years and piano but now I wanna focus on rockabilly guitar and learn it as quickly as I can saving up for that Eddie Cochran Grech replica

    hi Darrel wonder if you could help an old rockabilly bad knees bad back too much touring -
    i have been redoing my early 50's Gretsch guitar don't want to say much at this stage, and the real Eddie Cochran's Gretsch if you want to call it an assemble line- the one i have which i picked up from a shop in Minnesota the kind of shop that has things no one wants it was in a tea chest $55 dollars shop owner thought that's what the tea chest was worth/ stated cleaning it in between touring, i could not believe what i had in my hands when i looked at the paper work with the Guitar and searched this on the Gretsch data base, they Guitar was the second Guitar after Eddie's Guitar/ but been having problems finding a set of inlays like Eddies had, and the copy one i have like yours darrel, hell you were so right to say buy this. i asked at Gretsch if they had a set i could buy/ and they said that they only made enough for the one's there making, as you and i know they don't make them any more, there made in china and Korea for $250 dollars but they still sell them at the same high price, so i told them they are going on to a Eddie's guitar / they asked for the numbers which i sent / email i got back had really changed from some inlays to HOW MUCH WOULD YOU TAKE YOUR THE GUITAR AS IT IS NOW/ I HAVE NO INTEREST IN SELLING IT IS MORE A LABOR OF LOVE SOMETHING YOU HAVE DONE YOUR SELF- YOU WILL KNOW WHAT I MEAN / I TOLD THEM I HAD NOT CONSIDERED SELLING SO WOULD NOT KNOW A PRICE, IT WENT BACK AND FORWARD THEY HAD GOT TO £50,000 DOLLARS/ DARREL YOU KNOW AS WELL AS I DO/// Gretsch Guitars are not just a guitar, not like a Fender Strat or a 335 jazz to me they are the sort of guitars you through away at the end of a gig/ not a Gretsch, you make sure they go back in the case or the rack and lock it/ there is no amount of money i would take for that Guitar/ remember if there offering me that kind on money/ then how much is in it for them
    so if you know of any where that i could get the inlays i would be most thank full if you do/ thanks mate an keep doing what your doing, Rj.

    Hi Darrel, can you tell me your reasons for fitting a P-90 at he neck, also the arm on the Bigsby looks like it will turn full circle, I've had to file down the stop on mine, I also have another Epiphone that has gold hardware and don't want to file that down in fear of ruining it, my Gretsch has two DeArmond Dynasonics, would it sound better if I fitted a P-90 at the neck position, John.

    • @pjh6930
      @pjh6930 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He's heavily influenced by Eddie Cochran who, modified his 1955 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins Hollowbody with a Gibson P90. In fact, the guitar Mr Higham is playing in this video is, the Gretsch Eddie Cochran signature 6120. This model is fitted with a Bigsby arm that does swivel, however, As always, He's retro fitted a fixed arm as on Cochrans original guitar.

    Playing that G chord like in the video is a real fingerkiller for me!!! Never been able to play a chord that way. Why not play a full bar chord??

    • @JohnnyFriendly
      @JohnnyFriendly 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Greater flexibility. With the open-f shape you can use your all four fingers for melodies and licks and still quickly revert back to the chord. You can even quickly move up the neck. With a barre it's impossible to do any of this. It's harder to master but once you've got it you won't go back to barre chords again.

    • @paulparker7992
      @paulparker7992 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. Same. Some people just have longer fingers , thumbs or more flexibility.

    Anyone tried to copy the riffs? The first one is breaking my fingers, but sounds soooo cool. A common technique in Rockabilly frustrating me. The second riff is managebe but also difficult.

    I never understood Higham. How can Eddie Cochran be your idol? Just
    seems weird. I guess he had to choose Cochran because he sure as hell
    wasn't gonna be able to make a career doing Elvis stuff.

    • @Twangabilly
      @Twangabilly 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe because Cochran was one of the greatest artists from the 50’s; Who wrote countless great songs and was a talented guitarist, despite only being 21 when he died.
