Whoever wrote this script has never sailed on a WWII era destroyer. Lack of deck space? LMAO 142 crew will make combat watches very difficult for extended periods.
It seems that this massive ship with such a small compliment of personnel is an amazing tool in the defence arsenal. At about twice (loosely) the figure of a new submarine, this ship fills a huge gap much in need of filling. With today’s globally developing threat level it is important not to look at $ and look more seriously at functionality and combat effectiveness. In previous wars human losses were horrific. We need to be mindful of protecting limited resources such as personnel. Fewer fighting men operating warships is a brilliant way of going about that very task. Even better . . . fully automated or remote. PROTECT THE CREW!
Few things here there's somewhat class was nixed because of issues with its powering system and literally structure fatigue and cracking. And as it's a reverse bow or an x bow or whatever people calling them now It also goes underwaves and through waves instead of over ways like an Atlantic bow does. So it has a very low wet decorating meaning if it's not perfect out this thing's pretty much just underwater the whole time. I understand your sentiment towards automation and no soldiers but that's a dangerous path to go down. You don't want water to come down to who has the most money to throw robots at a situation. War should be something that's so feared because of the loss of human life that it is the major deterrent not the factor of economies. I hate to say it but war has to be nasty so that we don't do it more often!
Well, I’m afraid I was speaking from the heart rather than from knowledge. In view of current events I wrote too quickly and made a glaring boo boo in statements. My apologies.
If I am wrong I admit it. And indeed I was wrong. I most certainly didn’t receive it as aggressive, just informative. 😃 I care about the personnel and when I saw this ship could be operated with a small compliment I was happy to see that a loss of this ship would only be a fraction of a WWII ship. Fewer lost and many saved…theoretically. I’m afraid that was more my point than anything else.
@Vincent ElevenThirtyEight My point is that it isn’t hiding from anything , especially a missile. A complete waste of money to even attempt to make a ship stealth
@@crv5322 Then why bother making stealthy aircraft? Stealth allows aircraft or ships to be unseen at greater distances. For an aircraft, it might mean it doesn't show up on radar until it's 20 miles away rather than 80. For a ship, that might mean it can't be seen from 100 miles away but can at 50. It also might mean it can't be distinguished from churning ocean waters as easily. I ran the sensors on S-3A Vikings and have an interesting story that relates to this. Using the type of radar we had (not ISAR), a ship would look like a little fat arc because of the sweep of the radar, but the arc was so slight that it almost looked like a straight line. But one day I spotted a slightly irregular shape. The next sweep of the radar showed that it changed shape, then again and again. We flew down low to it and it turns out I'd spotted a pod of dolphins (or porpoises?) thrashing around, and the disturbed sea surface - changing shape each time - is what I spotted. I saw the same thing a few days later and asked them if they wanted to go dolphin watching. They were kind of impressed. 😁 So anyway, a stealthy ship might blend in with high sea states on radar until one got much closer to it.
@@davidabarak It’s a waste of design and money since no missile is going to miss it. Better to use ECM , etc instead of a single ship busting the budget for the rest of the fleet operations.
@@crv5322 I assume you've made a career out of military analysis? (My four years active duty in the Navy and 10 1/2 years as a civilian employee have given me some insight.) This may come as a surprise to you, but stealthy aircraft can absolutely be hit by missiles. In fact, we lost an F-117 to a missile during the Balkans War when we were supporting it. The goal is to keep ships and aircraft invisible to radar for longer, not forever. And don't think that stealthy vehicles don't also carry ECM, including chaff decoy systems for aircraft and ships (aircraft also carry flares for heat-seeking missiles). Is the cost of the Zumwalt class worth the money? Apparently the Navy doesn't think so, but exploring that concept was certainly worth the time and money. Despite all the high-tech simulation technology, there's ultimately only one way to test out new ship and aircraft designs, and that's by building them. We've had _plenty_ of aircraft designs built and abandoned in favor of better designs, so doing the same with ships isn't unreasonable. I'm happy to be convinced otherwise, but you'll have to let me know what your military background is. And in advance, "thank you for your service."
The phrase "Perhaps the most unique..." is a grammatical error of the first degree. "Unique" is akin to "Pregnant". One is either pregnant or not pregnant. Unique admits to no comparative. Something is either unique or not unique. So there. Four Billion (with a B) Dollars? That's unique, all right. Stealth? Give me a generation three fighter with two Exocet missles and we'll see how uniquely stealthy it really is. What a unique boondoggle. Fix the leaking water pipes in my community before building this unique behemoth.
This video seriously misses the mark. It’s titled a “day in the life” for Sailors onboard the Zumwalt ships, yet spends most of the time talking about LPDs and carriers. 👎🏼

@@davidabarak It’s a waste of design and money since no missile is going to miss it. Better to use ECM , etc instead of a single ship busting the budget for the rest of the fleet operations.
@@davidabarak An airplane is moving at 750 knots. Stealth is definitely more valuable in slowing contact. A 600 ft ship at 30 kts? Hmmph
Looks like my iron 🤣🤣
The phrase "Perhaps the most unique..." is a grammatical error of the first degree. "Unique" is akin to "Pregnant". One is either pregnant or not pregnant. Unique admits to no comparative. Something is either unique or not unique. So there. Four Billion (with a B) Dollars? That's unique, all right. Stealth? Give me a generation three fighter with two Exocet missles and we'll see how uniquely stealthy it really is. What a unique boondoggle. Fix the leaking water pipes in my community before building this unique behemoth.
we should build all 30 ships of this class.
spent all the money developing it, no just copy them. Wrong time to give up on it if is a great ship
3 build was already too much.
It's one of the biggest failure of the USN...
Defense in baleias Very good
This video seriously misses the mark. It’s titled a “day in the life” for Sailors onboard the Zumwalt ships, yet spends most of the time talking about LPDs and carriers. 👎🏼
