- The Pursuit of Holiness - 1 Peter 1:10-16
In 1 Peter 1:15-16 we read, “As He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’” In Hebrews 12:14 we read that we are to “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” Holiness means that the believer is set apart, different from the world, distinct in thought, peculiar in conduct, and totally committed to the ways of God especially when those ways run contrary to the world.
Do people know you’re a believer in Jesus Christ? Do people see the way you react to trials and troubles and note that your response is not normal? Do people comment on your positive outlook on life and wonder why you remain stable in a world that’s falling apart? If we choose to be holy - separated from the world and setting apart Christ as our Lord - people will notice and then we can give an account of the hope that is in us. (1 Peter 3:1)
