- A visit to Wisteria Lane, the street where Desperate Housewives lives. Today known as Colonial Street. This street is set at Universal Studios lot, Hollywood California USA. The houses and street have been used in several other movies and TV productions such as Dragnet, Munsters, Colonial Street and Delta house.
A number of music videos been filmed here as well; Dilemma by Nelly ft. Kelly Rowland, Why don't you get a job by Offspring and It's a beautiful day by Michael Bublé!

Hi, thanks for your question. This was filmed while the series was still being produced and at that time this was as close as you got. If they actually filmed that day, the tram would not be allowed to drive up the street at all. We where told only a few of the houses actually had an inside and lots was filmed at a soundstage. They use the street and houses for other films and series so I doubt any furniture from the series is still there. They where probably removed the last day of filming.

I finally went to USH last year in Nov and I was fangirling so hard when we drove through colonial street. I wish I could have seen it dressed like this before they got rid of it all. Desperate Housewives is forever iconic.
I always wanted to live here when I was younger. One of the first American TV shows I ever saw when it was on Channel 4 in the UK

Its now kinda sad to see that the street has lost all its colors. Bright colors of the houses have been removed, all the fake flowers too, lots of trees, and the playground/garden in front of Edie's house. Wisteria Lane brought so much life to Colonial Street
One of the best episodes was the Tornado hitting Wisteria Lane
I would love for someone to recreate this neighborhood or houses similar to this.
From my understanding the houses are still there on the Colonial Street of Universal Studios Lot in Universal City, California. However they do make some changes to the street/houses now and then depending on what film or TV-series they shoot there at the moment.

@waaaraaa This is inside Universal Studios and is used for filming. Nobody lives here. Right now this set is mainly used for Desperate Housewives, but many other tv-shows and films has been taped here as well.

@MadameHollywoodX There's no guarantee, but it's featured on the tour when they're not shooting.
Another excellent tour is closeby; Warner studio tour. The first time we were here they were shooting Friends, so unfortunatelly we weren't allowed on their set. The second time the show had ended, but we were allowed to visit "central perk" and sit in the famous sofa :-) If you want to see photos from this, go to flickr and search for: "Warner LimeWave"

Lots of the sets can be experienced in the Studio Tour included in standard admission - not sure how much more access you actually will get with VIP (seems to be a lot of other "added values", snacks, refreshments, lounge etc).
It's unlikely you will see any stars (Warner Studios is better for that, but still it's not likely). Anyway, DH is not filmed anymore so they're not at these sets at all.

The tours are not allowed on the street if they are filming.

@comomoloful1 We tried to visit the set of Friends when that show was still on. They were reconstructing at the moment so we weren't allowed to go there. But a couple of years after they finished filming we got to visit "Central Perk" and got to sit in the sofa :-)

It looks different now, not as pretty. They've done some changes but it's still there yes.
And houses, by the way you can make your personal carage, that is an advantage, but if you are a lazy person, houses need more atention for cleaning and grooming, cleaning the front and back yard or lawn.

The outdoors clips of Desperate Housewives was shoot here, as well as some of the indoors. But only a few of the houses actually have an inside, and that's why the rest was shoot at a soundstage. As you know the DH is not filmed anymore but they still use the street and houses for other films and series.

At the time of our visit no, and the tour trolly don't go here while there's any filming going on (it's used for other films/series now of course).

Wisteria Lane is set at Universal Studios, Hollywood California USA.
PJ's Nightclub was located at 8151 Santa Monica Blvd during the 60's and was replace by The Starwood 1973. Martoni’s Italian restaurant was located at 1538 N. Cahuenga Blvd in Hollywood and was closed in January 1994.

From my understanding, a few are, a few are not. But there's nobody living there and this is purely a filming location. The tours of the Universal Studio backlot do not let anyone inside.

I love the updated design of Katherine Mayfair’s house. Beautiful, warm wood work, open floor plan, contrasted with bright colors in the kitchen. I love how they opened up the galley kitchen into a horseshoe by wrapping it around the dining room, and creating a bar stool seating area. My second favorite home is Bob Hunter’s house. Admittedly he and his husband’s decor choice is more suited for a modern home, so it looks tacky and out of place. Betty Applewhite did a beautiful job of decorating the house (minus the prison cell in the basement).
When the show was in production, the Studio Tour trams rarely accessed the street during the week as it was in constant use, so real fans had to visit on weekends or occasionally on rainy days. As of May 2012: The street has been resurfaced, and a lot of white fencing (and wisteria) has been removed.

I went there on January 2010! It was absolutely AMAZING! I have a question: what does it mean when outside a house there is a light? Are they filming inside or what? Because I remember there was light outside Bree´s house

@comomoloful1 Of course! It's a lot of fun and Wisteria Lane is just one of many interesting and fun spots to see during this tour. Once you've paid the entrance fee to Universal Studios you can take this ride for as many times as you want as well. It's just a matter of how many times you want to stay in the line, or if you're lucky enough to get here in the right time.
Inside Universal there's also many other things to do of course, rides to enjoy etc.

One of the most popular places to shoot on the back lot,"Colonial Street" has a long history; it is now more commonly known as Wisteria Lane. Production ended on the 8-year run of Desperate Housewives in April 2012. The area is having a makeover to get it back to a more generic neighborhood so it can once again begin appearing in other shows and productions with no echoes of Wisteria.
And from our understanding Wisteria Lane is still featured on the Studio Tour so it's not too late. :-)

I remember going on that tour years ago as a teenager in Universal Studios. I was waiting for the Gaby or Bree to come out or something lol. But alas, you are not allowed to step out of the tour bus.

I'm pretty sure it's still there and will stay since it's been used over and over again for various films, TV-shows and music videos since. I believe it's been used since back in the '70s but probably there's been several buildings added and adjusted since then.

I hope someone know an answer to my question - What will be the future of Wisteria Lane after the end of Desperate Housewives? I would love to visit this attraction during a future trip to USA, but I wouldnt want to go too late when its changed to something else for another television production
@LimeWaveVideo Really? when i went this summer they were shooting...inside that is but they were shooting an episode or a promo i think, but i saw Eva Longoria and Terry Hatcher but we were to calm down and stay in the tram.

Every house featured on Desperate Housewives were houses that were and had been built and featured many years prior; (ex: The Munster's creepy house). They simply remodeled the outside with and updated paint job, took away some tresses, removed the stone wall and 19th century gothic fencing and voila! 1313 Mockingbird lane, formerly, the "Maxim House" of the 1946 movie "So Goes My Love" (aka "A Genius in the Family") becomes infamous again on Desperate Housewives. Wonder what it'll become next!
