Absolutely stunning example of classic American history! I love these old vintage board track racers and your Excelsior-Henderson Super-X is a prime example of perfectly preserved racing history! I really appreciate guys like you keeping these bikes running and showing them off instead of letting them collect dust in a museum or an old barn! I'm 35 and I love seeing these bikes, it's nice to actually see them up close and being able to hear them run! Thanks you for keeping this hobby alive!!! =D
@AlkoHol62 Thanks. Made in Chicago, IL, USA by Schwinn. The Super-Xs were kicking but in Class C racing and hill-climbs. Still has lots of power with the long-track sprocket gearing.
@wc4dblues Thanks! Hard to kick with the compression release linkage disconnected, but seems to catch easily. Probably will do about 65mph on the track, not sure without some data though. Feels like 90! A BLAST to ride!
oh you open the throttle and the camera is trembling, If I only could hear this live. Congrats on your collection, you must feel nice when you open the garage and confront all these motorbikes from a different era. Thanks for the videos
Thanks for sharing! Fabulous motorcycle, really like the close-up views of the valve train in action - true visual poetry! Acoustic music was great also!!
I can just imagine people saying around 1925 "get that infernal claptrap machine outta here!". Love the sound of those mechanicals whirring -reminds me of "the World's fastest Indian" passing all the Triumph 650's like they were standing still. I would love to feel the power of this beautiful machine; pure Americana, imho
@Jayyar4 I have already watched all your videos, thats why I said about the collection of your motorbikes. Very nice once again and thank you for the videos. If you have more, and you have time upload them. You seem to know some thing for this historical pieces, maybe a video explaining how is everything working? Just a hint from a vintage-motorbike fun. Take care
Very cool bike, well done! i love all the open mechanicals they sure dont build em like that any more.. good thing cause most sheeple couldnt keep em working
Excuse my ignorance, but you spoke about some shims and how you could take them out for the track and them put them back in for the street. What do the shims do, and why must you kep them in for street use?
Hi! 👍Nice m. Bike, like the color. Sounds great. Would like to ride it. My grandpa had one back in the days. I've never seen it. Yours in good care. Show vid when you ride it. Great sounding engine *** Thank you for sharing it.
The shims are under the cylinders, by removing them it raises the compression ratio. With higher compression it'll make some more power, but it would require higher octane fuel in most cases. I assume that's why they used shims for road travel. racing fuel may have only been available at the track. An unwanted change from moving the cylinders up and down is the change in rocker arm geometry. Plus you'd have to reset the valve lash. It was overhead intake with a flathead exhaust. L head I think.
COOL MECANIC,LOOK SUPER FUN 2,SOUND NOT 2 BAD,FREE INTERNET 4 CHILDREN,DATS THE BEST SCHOOL THEY CAN GET ,GIRL N BOY,POOR N RICH.THANK YOU SERVANT OF GOD.
This is the third vehicle I've seen with Non Skid for a tire tread. The first was my neighbors 1924 REO school bus. The second was yesterday at a bike show on a 1916 Indian. Is the tire orginal or is it a special order item. If so were can you get them ? As my neighbor has been looking for them. He asked a manufacutrer and they told him that I would cost to much to make the mold. That it would not be worth it.
I pump 1-1/2 shots from the oil tank directly to the crankcase, turn on the dripper which drops about 2 every 6 seconds(in the manual), wide open for racing so maybe twice that, and I drain all 3-6 ounces after the race and replace. The oil pump just recirculates. Alot of the oil blows out the breather.
It is a compression release. There should be a rod from the foot-starter, to lift 1 exhaust valve, for less compression for starting. It only operated from the foot-starter. See my other 1926 Super X Super Sport video, which has the fittings. Higher compression bike.
A flathead is an "L-head", also known as a side-valve or pocket valve. A "T-head" has intake and exhaust in the block, but they're on different sides. An "F-head" is intake in the head and exhaust in the block, or the other way around, exhaust in the head and intake in the block.

What a beautiful machine. Starts up so easily!
That is absolutely awesome! I love the pushrods on the outside of the engine!!!
@wc4dblues Thanks! Hard to kick with the compression release linkage disconnected, but seems to catch easily. Probably will do about 65mph on the track, not sure without some data though. Feels like 90! A BLAST to ride!

great bike....... a schwinn you say ?...... can you tell me the size of the rims ?
is that an overhead valve/flathead valve combination? I was just reading about that.. Love the old tech..
Superb!! Unusual in being unit construction.
Excuse my ignorance, but you spoke about some shims and how you could take them out for the track and them put them back in for the street. What do the shims do, and why must you kep them in for street use?
Superb! Nothing surplus to requirements.
So you guys still do the old days board race? Man I saw those old photos in the Maggie Valley Museum that Dale has. I love those old bikes man.

Runs like hell with no brakes. Where do you ride it?
Does that have any trail with those forks and rake?
Piece of Art
I think, this long stroke engine sound always popular till now.
Old engines are nice really smart bike btw

Who, in the world, was the first to use unit construction and when?
It is so fucking loud that the camera is vibrating !! wow !! awsome ride man !! i LOVE IT !!! i could listen her/him all day
beautiful machine man.

what kind of brakes did they use at those bikes?
Absolutely Beautiful!
Was that rocker arms at the top of the head? Or can you explain to me what that is if I'm wrong?
It has an overhead intake and the exhaust is in the cylinder block. So Yeah, one rocker is at the top of the head.
Beautiful bike
Do you ride those bikes ? If you ride, how fast are they ?
my mouth was literally watering when I watched this. That super x is what everyone that makes bikes, wishes they could make. Does that make any sense?
How does the total loss lubricating system work on this motorcycle?
I pump 1-1/2 shots from the oil tank directly to the crankcase, turn on the dripper which drops about 2 every 6 seconds(in the manual), wide open for racing so maybe twice that, and I drain all 3-6 ounces after the race and replace. what's the unused lever for on the top of the case, between the cyl heads?
It is a compression release. There should be a rod from the foot-starter, to lift 1 exhaust valve, for less compression for starting. It only operated from the foot-starter. See my other 1926 Super X Super Sport video, which has the fittings. Higher compression bike.
Jayyar4 thanks. interesting.
are there no breaks at this bike? :D
Que hermosa moto wuauu me encantó saludos desde Argentina
fantastic!
Does it have any brakes?
I need the bike crank ?
That just goes to show everyone on this channel old bikes were built better than the new ones
Oh that's beautiful!
Inlet valve over Exhaust valve,a very common practise in early days.
+B.R. Buckeye Man AKA "F-Head".
+Curby Weaver Thanks for replying, but I thought a " Flat Head" was with both valves being side valves, or is that a "Pan Head". Kind regards chris.
A flathead is an "L-head", also known as a side-valve or pocket valve. A "T-head" has intake and exhaust in the block, but they're on different sides. An "F-head" is intake in the head and exhaust in the block, or the other way around, exhaust in the head and intake in the block.
Id love to buy this...
Sounds sooooo good
the camera is shaking while revving... sick
Love at first sight...
Great bike.
top speed?
NO BRAKES ! JUST FEET !
wow. no choke... only one kick and the valve springs are outside of the engine???? unique....
Can you get an old bike like this street-legal ? Really something different.
