This footage is a precious gem! . The Catala and time spent at the now gone silver king hotel near the wreck were some of my most exciting and memorable experiences of my childhood. Thank you for taking the time to post this .
Thanks for your comments! We loved visiting the SS Catala on our summer visits to Ocean Shores back in the day. That's myself and brother and sister in the video.
I remember being out there as a kid to see the shipwreck. I think back then there two roads that went out on the point. One was closed because gaps created by ocean and weather. No driving out there now, but if you look, you can see portions of the old pavement and the pilings that supported the roadway. Would love to find old pictures!

My grandfather who lived in Aberdeen on M Street took me to see it. He taught at Grey's Harbor Community College for about 30 years.
I remember walking on this as a kid, great memories!
I explored this ship in 1970when was about 8 years old.
I loved walking on that old ship. Sad that it was cut up and removed.
We loved it too! But I understand It got more dangerous to explore as the years went by.
My dad told me about this ship.
