    Whoever had these treated them like the treasures they are. To be this old and yet be this pristine, a great find

    The original owner cared for this collection very lovingly, treated it very gingerly. Such a joy to watch!

    The UK laminated covers are quite beautiful. Of course, in the States we were treated with the plain matted covers. I have a four original UK covers and I cherish them. As every Beatles person knows, the UK LPs generally sound better and look better.

      You're not wrong, of course, but as an impercunious UK collector who has a reasonable collection of some very nice, good, clean UK originals, I still enjoy the US and Canada imports that I've managed to get over the years... 🙂 They make a nice change, and it's interesting to see how the sound differs, and how differently the covers were put together!

      @@stevesstuff1450 I agree,Steve,with your "not necessarily"reply.A couple notable North American must haves for those in the UK and Europe,are mostly the mono Something New,with true mono mixes of I'll Cry Instead(2:05 timing),Any Time At All,When I Get Home,(not issued in the UK)and,of course,Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand.Yesterday And Today would be the other one for the earlier mixes of I'm Only Sleeping,Dr.Robert(with the "OK Herb" end bit,and the louder guitar mix of And Your Bird Can Sing,none of which were UK issued..The Second Album does have the initial dry vocal mix of Long Tall Sally,not issued in the UK.

    Those look beautiful. I don't think I've ever seen an original White Album with the cover that clean and pristine. If the LP's are as clean and quiet as they look and the sleeves are, they'll definitely make for an amazing listening experience!

    Another excellent clip. I find it differcult to understand anyone buying these back in the 60's and not playing them a thousand times. What kind of fan from the 60's would buy them to preserve them in mint condition ?. I can see their value today, but a well played LP is a loved LP, bought by a real fan who saved their pennies to buy it.

    • @markboulton954
      @markboulton954 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      He probably played them once to copy them to reel-to-reel. That's what I would have done if I was alive back then and I had the money. In fact in the 90s I used to buy a lot of ambient, trance, etc. stuff that was only largely available on vinyl and the first thing I would do was copy them to VHS Hi-Fi so I didn't have to wear the records out and I had a pristine capture of them.

    • @shadshowadradna
      @shadshowadradna 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      As the person appears to have consistently gone out and bought each one fairly early after release, I think they probably qualify as a fan. Possibly an older fan who, yes, copied them to tape.

    When these albums came out I was still a kid, but a Beatles fan. I remember going to all the department stores and going to the record department. I only had money for 45's, if that. Seeing these albums in this shape from the UK is exciting. Good job again.

    I came across a tattered beatles for sale 1st issue stereo. But packed in a fresh crispy EMI inner lay an amazing sounding and looking 1st issue. Whatever sticky teen had that album grew out of it quick, but It was loved because it was a little played. But for it's age it was a rarity for me and my collection!

    Wow this is absolutely amazing Andrew! Phenomenal collection. I dream of finding these records in such condition. Let’s hope they end up in a very good home (if you are not keeping them), there cannot be that many sets around like this and I would hope they could be preserved in the same condition for another 50 years. What a great find, would love to hear the back story!

      I would think they were immediately transferred to tape, maybe a Revox A77 running at 15 ips. In my opinion the tape transfers sound incredible, and you don’t have to put any groove wear on your vinyl.

    When I was younger so much younger than today, I was given, the entire Beatles collection to play. ( like about 3 years old )
    But now those days are gone and now I am assured, I wish I could have my time again, the records I wouldn't play no more.
    Yes, the entire Australian collection, with a first pressing of Please Please Me, with the gold label. Which I still have but as a kid you don't look after stuff.

    The UK stereo Rubber Soul -2/-2 is the best-sounding copy I have heard. Other UK pressings are, in my limited experience, too harsh, too bright. Lots of sibilance. I can't recall, but you might have made mention of your own favorite in a previous video. I do remember your favorite UK mono, so there is still a little brain function happening......

    I bought all the original albums as they came out in Australia in the 1960s. From memory, all were pressed in Australia with the exception of Sgt Pepper which was imported from the UK - presumably because EMI Australia couldn't print the gate-fold sleeve at that stage. You have acquired a great collection!

  • @Merseyrock
    @Merseyrock 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I gather that this person must have been the audiophile type: Middle-aged, choosing stereo over mono pressings, caring for the collection, and so on. I also noticed that both Please Please Me and With The Beatles were missing from this collection; the earliest album featured here was A Hard Day's Night. Very telling. Perhaps the owner did not take The Beatles seriously until after A Hard Day's Night was released, and then he/she made sure not to miss any subsequent Beatles albums as soon as these came off the pressing plant!

      Many of the early '70s one and two box EMI Parlophone label represses use the same metal to press them and they sound equal to the originals..... after that, through the '80s, yeah, there were some rather dodgy DMM pressings, and later re-cut metal that never sounded as 'full' as the originals.
      'Controversially' I like the 2009 remasters/2012 digital Stereo LP pressings, and I love the 2014 Mono repressings.....

    Cool beans my friend ! UK pressings smell different than our Canadian pressings.. I think it's the lamination and the glue they used? But both sometimes share that Nicotine issue from back in the day !!! LOL Always love to see the UK Rubber Soul cover. Fav Beatles cover next to the album after it Revolver. I notice though with the UK Revolver - way more issues with it yellowing than the non laminated N.American version I wasn't aware those were rice paper inners that come with these stock . Very good choice. I don't like ANY plastic other than the Vinyl.

    I noticed a couple of things with the White album.
    The Stereo print on the back cover looks a little too large and too black and should be exactly the same colour as the front number stamp ink.
    The "green Apple" labels are too bright especially on the lower right side and look smooth rather than texturised and should be rough to the touch.

    Andrew, you credited the “vintage” plastic covers as having preserved these gems in such great condition, so I was disappointed when you said you were going to get rid of them as you don’t need them any more. If those plastic covers have preserved the gems so well for over 50 years, maybe they’ll do another 50. Why get rid of them?

Was also told the box holds it's value if unopened. To this day I have left it unopened, but am tempted to open to see what I purchased. The box is still sitting in my bedroom cupboard unopened, waiting for me to do something with it.

    I grew up in the 60's with the Capitol Issue Beatle Albums. I know The Beatles didn't issue some of their albums like:
    sᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ ɴᴇᴡ- ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴇᴀᴛʟᴇs ᴠɪ- ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴇᴀᴛʟᴇs 𝟼𝟻- ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴇᴀᴛʟᴇs ʏᴇsᴛᴇʀᴅᴀʏ...ᴀɴᴅ ᴛᴏᴅᴀʏ, Etc. Capitol records put these
    albums together to generate more money. I loved them, even The American releases of "A Hard Days Night, Help, Rubber Soul & Revolver.

      @apollomemories7399 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These US albums were cobbled together and can never be considered proper albums. I also don't think Parlophone were too careful about the copy master tapes sent over - maybe something to do with some subtle revenge on Capital for all the years of backhanded treatment over UK recordings from EMI and Parlophone that Capital had ignored - until The Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan. Capital had also rejected both the Love Me Do and Please Please Me singles for North American release. The fools.

    Is that LIB a Decca contract pressing? I notice it has the chamfered (raised) label area indicative of Decca LPs at the time (which in their case were atopped with a smaller-than-standard radius label so the chamfer was left visible for about 5mm around the label).

    Hi, fascinating video and I would also like to hear about the background story to these vinyl records, especially as the Let It Be original box set appears to be the best kept one I've seen. I would like to ask a novice's question as, whilst I've been a hardcore fan since 1974, I'm afraid I have never really been into seeking out original, 1st, 2nd etc pressings. What is the "stamper number", where do you find it on a record (the run out grove ??) and what is its significance ? If you have already done a video explaining the information to be found on a vinyl record (eg Patents Apply", a link to it would be great thanks. Cheers, Tim

    I was looking at my 2014 mono Rubber Soul LP as you were looking at your original stereo - the fon't different on these labels. I wouldn't get the stereo LPs from 2012 because they were copied from the digital masters that brought us the CDs. I think that's where Mobile Fidelity got the idea for their "One" Steps. Wouldn't you know it, the '12 stereos are still in print and the monos are nowhere, man, to be found.
    Now that I think of it, I was looking at my Giles remix of Abbey Road and since Pepper, Abbey Road, White and Let It Be were all remixed in stereo, were these mastered from the analogue tapes of the remix or are these digitised as well?
    Cheers, Andrew, love your stuff. 👍

      Here's my idiots guide for EMI Parlophone.
      EMI - Lacquer, Master, Stamper
      The dash at the bottom:
      Dash 1 is the FIRST lacquer
      Dash 2 is the second lacquer etc
      On the left side will be a number
      1 = the FIRST mother
      On the right side will be letters used to spell out GRAMOPHONELTD
      G = 1
      R = 2 etc
      D = 0
      GD = 10
      An original Beatles’ Please Please Me matrix would be 1-1-G, the very first pressing = the First Stamper, from the First Mother, generated from the First Lacquer
      If an album has three letters on the right side, that means it’s at least the 100th stamper generated from the mother
      Under 50 is considered an early pressing.
