    Simple and clean looking build. I like it.
    Only thing I would change is you might want to fill those screw holes as water will sit in them. Or use Camo screws next time that you drive in from the side using their jig, where water is less likely to go. Makes for a screw-less top appearance as well.

    Do yourself a favor and purchase a 4" version of the Torx bit you are using, will save a lot of hassle where the bit constantly gets stuck in the screw after driving. I did this and didn't realize how much time I was wasting each day by pulling out that bit each time. Love the project, it looks great!

    I try and make my projects from reclaimed timber and the sizes aren't always the same. So it helps make adjustments or come to the decision that the reclaimed won't work.

    What was the ratio you used for the mineral spirit to boiled lin seed oil? It appeared like a 1:1 ratio but I thought I’d ask to be sure. I made an outdoor dip bar for my patio with same burn technique but did not add mineral spirit to my boiled Lin seed oil. Needless to say it was a pain in the but applying it because it was so thick! Thanks for that tip on adding the mineral spirit, thats a great tip for the next project!

    • @BYOTools
      @BYOTools  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a 1:1 and it worked out perfectly. Thanks so much for asking and greatly appreciate the support.

  • @cchance
    @cchance 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just got done building this came out pretty nice, however i'm noticing that theirs no real structural support side to which makes me worry one day it'll collapse to the left or right, i'm considering adding some 2x4 or 4x4 between the legs for added support if it starts to feel wobbly down the road, hopefully the back and seat will remain stable, i'm missing 6-7 of the 2" grk's because apparently home depot sold me a box missing a few lol
    I didn't do the fire coating for the legs tho i did a dark deck sealant as i didnt have a torch and given the price of those 4x4s didnt want to risk it. I went a bit cheap on the back/seat cause i bought cheap 1x4's and then i did the oil like you did but still didn't feel great about it's weather safeness as the couch isn't covered so i put a layer of polyurethane over it after a few days of the oil curing.

    Really good details on this bench build. I am about to use "Premium Pine" boards, that is 0.75 inches x 3.5 inches from the Home Depot store to create a bench that is 36 x26 inches. Do you think it can support the weight of 2 people ? ( 360 pounds ? ). Trying to put this bench on a boat, so the total weight of the bench is of concern.

    Great idea, unfortunately the cushions slide everywhere and fly off during windy days. To fix this issue was a simple wide strip of Velcro tape, tacked the strips to the wood and sewed the others to each cushion seat and pillow-back, worked like a charm! Great project and extremely comfortable (especially if you purchase the fluffier filled cushions from California Backyard). Unzip, power-wash, and they are like new for 3 seasons so far. Great idea and budget friendly for larger family gatherings. 🥰🥰

    Slick design. Loved the details.. per the plan, it says 16’ 4*4 (and I see in the video and the design that their ain’t wood left) but the total length for the legs don’t add up.. they are only 102” while 16’ would be 192”. what am I missing?

  • @ianthebrightman
    @ianthebrightman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    great instructional video... one note that I would have done at the end (maybe you had your reasons to NOT do this): add heavy-duty strips of velcro to the bottom of those cushions and the top of the seat itself so the cushions don't move anywhere near as much
    just a thought!

    • @BYOTools
