He started the call acting like the only issue was the expense of moving, but it turned out they had all this other debt. I wish Dave would have asked when they started to be in debt. Has it been over 21 years getting more and more into debt? I bet the two older kids are step kids to either of the parents.
She's retired, with no money and living with her kids? No, retired means your money is all set up for the rest of your life, and that's how you can get by without working...
My dad is 91 and lives with us. Obviously he is retired. Been so since age 67. He gives us money monthly. Cheaper than an apt and we love having him with us. I told him, if he had no money, he would still live with us. He took care of me for 18 year and then some ! It’s been my turn now to take care of him.
More people need to realize that retirement is first a financial situation and only second an age. Things don't just magically work out once you hit 65.
My MIL is ‘retired’ because she didn’t like being tired down to a job or set hours. Then complains she can’t live wherever she wants or buy whatever she wants.
I feel better about my financial situation even though I'm in debt roughly $140K. Which doesn't include a house. That's a car loan loan, personal loans, irs, money owed to family, money I borrowed from 401k, credit cards and lines of credit I've taken out most all of it was to feed a a bad addiction that I'm currently overcoming. But I'm working 16 hours a day 6 to 7 days a week. should be debt free hopefully this time next year. Wish me luck.
@reese85 I'm a aircraft mechanic for a commercial airliner. Hoping to clear right at or near $200K by end of the year. I've already made $95K so far this year. But every check I get is going toward my debt and to live on. Trying to knock it out as quick as I can without leaving myself completely broke till I get paid again.
Yes. Dave is spot on. Everyone past puberty works. Four adults with 40 hours plus a week means 700 paid hours a month. Median wage of $25 an hour means $17,500 a month. Your discover bill is whipped out in a single month. No excuses. And throw a brick thru the tv.
Well, you can't expect median wage. You should expect 15 in most places, especially if its just entry level easy fill positions. So for the most part, those other 3 should be at least making 2.5K a month, so 7.5K from those 3 in total (or 5K after taxes).
@@rebeltheharem7028 You said $25 an hour is too much for entry. BLS says $40,000 is median starting and 2000 hours is 40 hours a week on an annual scale. That equals $20 an hour without overtime. And these four adults included entry and also some experience labor pool. Hence I used nominal $25 median.
@@rebeltheharem7028 BLS uses $20 an hour entry level median across the United States and some of these four had work experience so I used $25. Your figures are not true. You made them up as fiction.
Surprisingly wholesome. There's been a lot of calls about a deadbead guy asking how to make his pregnant wife help with bill etc but this dude was working hard and trying to support the whole family
Randomly without much initial optimism , I read Dave’s first book many years ago. Long story short, one of the luckiest days ever. Made so much difference. Thank you so much Dave.
How do people do this? About 6 mos after my husband died, I got laid off. I filed for unemployment, applied for every job in town, walked my happy ass into the nearest employment agency and came out with a job. It wasn't great, but it paid the bills. I had 2 kids to feed, a house contract and I had cut up the credit cards earlier. How do you just keep digging that hole? Do they think that money just shows up or bills are cancelled after a certain amount of time?
But he never had Sharon work at all. He has said that, my wife made a few bucks consigning a few years but never worked. I did . She sent me out even after she had Daniel. So he's a little harsh to tell mom's to work when he didn't do that unless he prefaces it with "we weren't that bad or times were different" Going bankrupt I guess cleared out some bills.
Dave, we know you've heard his story a thousand times... but slow down a little and get the details before jumping to conclusions. It actually saves time, bc you can more directly address the issues. 🙏🏾
That's true.. but the reason he's ignoring him is because he's making excuses for people not being at work. Nobody is being serious. So he doesn't care about his silly excuses. He cares about what your doing to fix the problem. Example.. he asked why isn't the mom working and his answer was "she's 60" 😂. So... why isn't whe at work? Well she's trying.. but she's also retired? I mean come on. This doesn't sound like trying.
Calls like this are the reason why this show will never be the same without Dave. Love all the other personalities, but only Dave can talk to callers like this. Everyone else is too dang soft!
I have no problem with adult family members living in my home but contribution is necessary. My son could live me forever as long as he was working full-time/ part-time and school.
😂😂😂😂this has been the bluntest and funniest 🤣 call yet. Dave didn't give him a chance 😂😂😂. He ate him up 😂😂😂. He literally called everyone "broke" 😂😂😂😂.
My mom was a widow on Social Security and my brother and I both worked and contributed to the household income for as long as we were home. We would have felt guilty if we didn't.
The wife has 6 figure student loan debt for a Psychology degree. But apparently can't do any kind of work that generates income while she "tries" to get registered as a counselor. Mother in law probably has no savings and is using the caller as her retirement plan.
Wait, but they told me college is not a scam. They also said spending 6 firgures to pursue what I love will earn me a great paying job in the real world. Was I being lied to?
My dad would go homeless and die before “retiring” to move in with his kids and have us pay for him. 60s is too young too retire if your kids are struggling.
Both him and his wife need to go work full time. Have the mother in law watch the kids full time if she wants to live with them so they can get free childcare and the mother in law can cook meals and clean while both parents work full time. The 21 year old needs to move out or if he stays he needs to work full time pay rent and help contribute. They can do it and get out of debt they have a whole village they just need to delegate. The advantage they have is they have a strong community and family unit. They just need to get going! If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, link up with others!
That is GREAT advice but I don’t think they’ll do all this !! In 6 months to a year he’ll be calling back to say they’re now in $200k in debt and don’t own a home !! The 21 year old can definitely get a job and a full time job for sure !!!
Yeah I was paying rent when I moved back home. £500 a month to my parents. Even when I was unemployed for a short time they didn't make any exceptions. They just said "Welcome to Adult Life".
I dont know if you were being disingenuous or not but I can tell you that God does not want you to be unmarried and childless. Eventually you will get to the point in your life where the "all about me" thing will become extremely unfullfilling.
Married ppl with children are still capable of making good decisions. It's not them that's the problem - it's the mindset. I'm sure there are plenty of single peeps out there with mountains of bad debt.
A lot of wives sit around and act like they don’t have to contribute financially to the household. Dave is right they all need to be working. If I were him I’d file chapter 7 and reset. If will take more than a decade to pay that off. Student loans are a trap.
I feel for this guy. He wants to take care of his family, but he's coming up short. Dave makes it sound easy to tell everyone else to get to work, but I can see how a man might hate to ask for help.
I hear him making a lot of excuses as to why none of them can work. All the fast food places need people to work the early morning shift. Yes, you have to get up early but in my neighborhood it pays about $13 per hour to start. Which is a lot better than "trying" to do nothing. Ever heard of Uber or Lyft? Bagging groceries at Save-A-Lot? I bet the local jail/prison is hiring. Hospitals always need help. And mother-in-law can open a small day care right there in the home that should bring in enough to cover her share of expenses.
Love when Dave tells like it is. People need to hear it. Mans is out working , while his wife is chilling with the mother laughing it up and eating all the food. The son is 21 and can work and live off his own money while he still lives with his parents. His wife needs to get off the couch and get a part time job
@@Gemmarose9012 his wife has a master degree and they don't even know you have to work to bring in $$ into the house?! Years ago I quit every job I got in a week or two. My father in law told my wife Does your husband have a problem holding down a job ? She told me. I said I think your dad is right. I joined the MARINES. I couldn’t quit. I got out and my wife was pregnant. I quit my first job in a week. I got up the next morning and walked to the unemployment office. I got a job and that lasted 1.5y and I got a career job. Now I’m retired and doing great. Work is so important
My sister's husband somehow gets sick when he lands a job and then quits so... No one helps him anymore. I'm surprised she didn't file for divorce as he's so useless, but even if she did it, they'd live under the same roof as they bought a house and they have three kids (well, two of them are male young adults and very similar to their useless dad). I have no idea what she saw in him, smh.
@@PhilipMarcYT when I was 17 I didn’t go to school one day. I faked sick. My dad came home from work and said how was school today? I said I didn’t go I was sick. All he said to me was “I feel sorry for you when you get a job.” It hurt worse than a whipping. I will never forget those words
I don't know. Seems like a lot of people just don't work and if you don't work, you don't have money. My grandmother used to say, go out and work because you aren't going to make the money sitting around at home. I just don't get the mentality of people nowadays. Part time job will make you $2,000 a month, three additional incomes of three adults is $6,000 a month after all the bills are paid from your income. Yeah you need to man up and be the man of the house. My daughter is turning 14 in two months and she will have s job the same day. We already talked to her about it and prepped her and she is ready. It has nothing to do with money but one she will learn responsibilities and two she will make her own money. There is none of this I wanna be a stay at home mom crap in my house.
I strongly agree with everyone having an income to contribute to the household However, what I don’t agree with is making everyone else’s money pay for your student loans that you racked up because they don’t benefit from your education, you do The house holds money outside of yourself should be used to pay for stuff, everyone benefits from, not just you If they don’t benefit from it, they shouldn’t have to help pay for it, that’s your problem, not theirs
Mother in law needs to leave. It's not right to for her to add a burden to people who are already struggling. The 21 y/o son should also move out. If he can't afford an apartment, he should rent a room. Concerning the wife, she can definitely do some type of work right now.
Agree. Some people are always talking about living with many generations in one household. Well, this is the end result! If a person cannot afford to live on their own then they will have problems living like this. Who cleans the house, prepare meals, do laundry, etc...
@@TheEGA4421 My thoughts exactly. It's one thing to house a relative who is elderly, disabled, or has a similar problem. Otherwise, allowing someone besides a spouse or minor child to live with you on a long-term basis is a recipe for trouble.

What is crazy is the body needs work (exercise). I retired from Army after 20 years and decided no work or exercise. Got back and leg pain. Wondered why. Got work and exercise. Both pains went away l. Plus slept longer and deeper.
The problem with the college side of psychology is how believable they make it seem to be able to make really good money in that field, but that’s all an illusion for 95% of people with that degree. You get your bachelors, then find out you need a trillion hours at low paying positions. Oh wait, now you need your masters, then another 2 trillion hours at more garbage positions. Ok, now you can use that masters to start actually making money, 20 years after you graduated college. My ex had tried to climb that ladder and never made more than $16 an hour in the mental health field for nearly 15 years. She eventually gave up. It’s standard schools promising a career path that doesn’t exist.
Is the son going to school for a real job while working 30 ish hours a week? That was a vital question i did not see adressed and reason whybdave's blanket statements can do more harm than good.
5:20 "Even if she made $2-3000 a month..." Come on, the reality here is a lot of people don't make that combined. I understand working multiple jobs, but there comes a point to where your physical body can't work 16-18 hours a day. The Ramsey crew has good advice for the most part, but y'all are rich and getting richer from selling to poor people. If you Dave didn't know the people he knows he probably would never have made the bounce back that he did when he had to file bankruptcy. His name was already well known in the industry he was in at the time and he was able to bounce back because of that. I'm not saying that people gave him anything, he just knew who to go to help him dig hisself out of a massive hole. Side hustles are hard to do especially if you have a family that you love to be around. You go to work for 8 hours a day and then he expects you to work another full time job on top of that at night and on the weekends. When are you supposed to spend time with your family? Is mental health not something Dave puts thought into when he is talking to people the way he talks to them sometimes? Here's an Idea, lets take Daves salary away and make him go get a job making $20/ hr, a piece of crap car and give him $200k in debt to payoff. Let's see how much work he would be willing to put in in order to get it paid off. This isn't the 1990's anymore. Everything has gone up except for peoples salary. The past 4 years have been the worst in my opinion. Sorry for the rant, but I feel like it needed said...

Being debt free is a mental endeavor. I grew in the backwoods of Vicksburg, MS in the 1940’s. Both of my parents died before my 10th birthday. I was raised by my grandmother until Mr 14th birthday. I went to live with a friend’s family, graduated from high school and college all on my dime. I never had anyone to advise me or mentor me but I had the foresight to see the current day and 20 years down the road. I invested with Warren Buffett 25 years ago and now at 82 financial trauma is not apart of my life. Life is simple. Human emotions rather than logic and rational decisions make people stupid, irrational and poor. No palms up allowed. If you can make an illogical decision you deserve the wrath forthcoming.
Some men are suffering too oo. This man is carrying all the burden while his wife who has 100 thousand dollars in student loans sits and does nothing. Four adults in the home and he has to work full time, drive Uber and do door dash. I want to feel sorry for him but again I know some men, by the time the wife starts to work and money starts coming in, they start carrying girls and remember they are polygamous in nature. To your wife, get up and work and help this man, help yourself. You live in a country where there are consequences for men who cheat and abuse their wives. Get up and go to work. You got a masters degree to sit and put all the responsibilities on your husband? When frustration takes over and your husband starts hanging with men who cheat on their wives, go to the beer parlor and meet a blonde hair, blue eyes, well your marriage is done. This man is a good man to me. I hope he does not change when you start working and start bringing in money.
Everyone gets to work !!! That's correct. ALL. the monies go into one pot to pay the bills. If you live there, you get to help. Turn off the TV, cxl the cable, pull the carpets in and get busy. my Mther in law had a retirement plan. She was getting rid of everything and visiting and living with each of her kids for awhile. She ended up 90 percent at my house. EXcuse me-I was the one working and paying the bulk of the bills. ) She had no respect at all and would spitefully do what she knew I didn't approve of, plotting behind my back with mrX to get him to spend money on her that we couldn't afford among other things. Simple formula, don’t spend more than you bring in. Tackle high interest debt first. Move on to next highest interest charge then. Live frugally. Repeat, rinse, rewash.

Good luck! Sounds like you’re super committed.
Good luck
@vxptc1 good stuff. I need to get on your plan to knock out the debt that I have
Too many broke elderly declaring themselves 'retired' and then move in and mooch off their struggling adult kids
@@rebeltheharem7028 30% taxes making 15 an hour? Lol
The wife needs to apply at Progressive Insurance to be a customer service rep. The MIL can watch the kids.
God, I love Dave. He's such a legend man. He's changed my life and will continue to be a mentor of mines until the day I die. Thank you Dave.❤
The poor guy is rowing a boat on his own, with family members who are 'trying' to grab a paddle.
It sounds like they are thinking of trying to grab a paddle
Surprisingly wholesome. There's been a lot of calls about a deadbead guy asking how to make his pregnant wife help with bill etc but this dude was working hard and trying to support the whole family
Yeah, sometimes Dave comes down hard on the wrong people! Maybe his hemorrhoids are bugging him today.
It doesn’t work when everyone rides in the wagon and nobody pulls the wagon.
lol
That's awesome! I've never heard that one. So true! Lovevit!
Randomly without much initial optimism , I read Dave’s first book many years ago. Long story short, one of the luckiest days ever. Made so much difference. Thank you so much Dave.
Yeah this situation is nuts. I don't think they are going to act on Ramseys advise. Hopefully. But it feels doubtful.
Cold. Hard. Facts.
Dave tells the truth.
You sound so stupid! Think about it!!!!
"Do or do not. There is no try." -Yoda
Lol! That quote crossed my mind as I listened to this call. I wish them the best.
Exactly, the problem in this situation is everyone isn’t contributing and helping out, it’s ridiculous and unacceptable.
Being a parasite is not right.
Way to go Dave!!! This is truth!!! So thankful you nailed it!!!
Do you have a dog? …. He has to join the circus 🎪 and bring some money 😅
This comment is a gold!
He needs to tell his mother in law to get her own place.
Or she needs to help pay the bills and get a job !! She can’t be living there rent free !! She needs to help pay some of the bills also !!!
@@gardenofe12 Maybe she does, this wasn't an Indepth interview.

@pulidobl 15 & 21 yo "kids" don't need childcare 😂😂😂
Dave ruthless lol...love it
"So am I. What's she do for a living?"
🤣🤣🤣
I laughed at that.
This episode is classic Dave. One of my favorites in awhile
Money, go get you some! I need to put that on repeat!
I just LOVE this show!!! They speak so much reality. Reality.
Let's be real, Rachel was the MVP in this call. She knew Dave was whooped up and just sat there and let it roll.
It's a real skill to know when to let someone else step up.
The wife has 6 figure student loan debt for a Psychology degree. But apparently can't do any kind of work that generates income while she "tries" to get registered as a counselor. Mother in law probably has no savings and is using the caller as her retirement plan.
Yup. She went to a private college for a degree you can get anywhere.
☝️- ALL OF THE ABOVE
Wait, but they told me college is not a scam. They also said spending 6 firgures to pursue what I love will earn me a great paying job in the real world. Was I being lied to?
@@tanpham7411 lol yes

3. Wife, son, and mother in law.
These kinds of calls make me so glad I'm 34 with no kids and no spouse living alone enjoying being debt-free and making a pretty good income.
drop out of life
@@lot2196 idk what that means
You make it sound like it's by choice
@@siva47931 isn't it a choice to have kids and a spouse? And to have an in-law living with you? Sounds like choices to me
@@siva47931
It’s all about choices.
His mother in law says she is retired. She is broke and moved in with them. Tell her to find a job or get out.
The 2 minors were school aged so there's literally no reason for anyone to stay home.
Dave didn't even take the time to understand the situation before he started saying nObOdY's WoRkIng!! 😂
Maybe because he went bankrupt, he didn't have bills but Sharon never worked. He's said that quite often. She took care of kids and he was gone a lot.
Thank god I’m childless and unmarried…yes lord thank you for blessing me to see through the BS!
Me too! So grateful and blessed!
I dont know if you were being disingenuous or not but I can tell you that God does not want you to be unmarried and childless. Eventually you will get to the point in your life where the "all about me" thing will become extremely unfullfilling.
Me too. I'm glad l choose at age 17 not to get married and have kids. I'm now 47 and still feel the same.
Married ppl with children are still capable of making good decisions. It's not them that's the problem - it's the mindset. I'm sure there are plenty of single peeps out there with mountains of bad debt.
It’s called natural selection
A lot of wives sit around and act like they don’t have to contribute financially to the household. Dave is right they all need to be working. If I were him I’d file chapter 7 and reset. If will take more than a decade to pay that off. Student loans are a trap.
Well his wife did. He was pretty broke, borrowed some from her dad I think, drove a beater a year or so, but Sharon took care of kids.
You can’t get rid of student loans in bankruptcy.
Not good for married couples to let realatives live with them.
This family is drowning in debt expecting to be rescued. When they’re basically like the Titanic. The ship is going to sink.
If the help they get is the knowledge and drive to take care of themselves, I'd call that a good assist. :)
He called and asked for guidance not a bail out.
@@Gemmarose9012 his wife has a master degree and they don't even know you have to work to bring in $$ into the house?! I don't believe even a little bit, they are just waiting for the government to bail them out, expecting more stimulus checks so they can keep lounging on recliners on the front porch
...the socialist cancer showing it's fangs...
And all the rest of the family is rearranging the deck furniture on the ship as it sinks
Wife has a Masters, doesn't work, her Mom is living w them, 100k in student loan debt, didnt pay credit card. Just wow.
I'm about sick of people getting advanced degrees just to flex instead of using them or not getting them in the first place.
Years ago I quit every job I got in a week or two. My father in law told my wife
Does your husband have a problem holding down a job ?
This guys situation sounds like so many people I hear...all these bills and no ones working
I don't know. Seems like a lot of people just don't work and if you don't work, you don't have money. My grandmother used to say, go out and work because you aren't going to make the money sitting around at home. I just don't get the mentality of people nowadays. Plus, working empowers you, you work you make money....its way better than not working and building up debt and wondering how you will get out of it.
Shes retired.
Dave: why? Shes broke.
Lmao. Gotta love this guy.
NO, not a fan. There's so many companies and businesses closing.. It's not so easy to just go out there and "get a job". There wasn't a Depression going on when Dave went bankrupt; he had more choices and opportunities!
@@SweetThingthere’s MORE jobs now because people can work from home, on line. Door dash, Uber… selling crap on eBay. We didn’t have all this back in 1980’s. We couldn’t even look for a job “on line”.
I like how Dave suddenly took on a Blackcent towards the end 😂
I strongly agree with everyone having an income to contribute to the household
However, what I don’t agree with is making everyone else’s money pay for your student loans that you racked up because they don’t benefit from your education, you do
The house holds money outside of yourself should be used to pay for stuff, everyone benefits from, not just you
If they don’t benefit from it, they shouldn’t have to help pay for it, that’s your problem, not theirs
Do not do door dash. It costs you money in the long run. Same with Uber unless you are close to an event venue.
George got an itch when Dave asked how old granny was
Rachel and Dave is a great balance❤
Mother in law needs to leave. It's not right to for her to add a burden to people who are already struggling. The 21 y/o son should also move out. If he can't afford an apartment, he should rent a room. Concerning the wife, she can definitely do some type of work right now.
21 year old probably can't afford that. Maybe if he has no debt...
Agree. Some people are always talking about living with many generations in one household. Well, this is the end result! If a person cannot afford to live on their own then they will have problems living like this. Who cleans the house, prepare meals, do laundry, etc...
21 yo should pay market rent. Same for Mother-in-law unless it is her house. Plus input for bills. The wife is lazy a.f.
@@TheEGA4421 My thoughts exactly. It's one thing to house a relative who is elderly, disabled, or has a similar problem. Otherwise, allowing someone besides a spouse or minor child to live with you on a long-term basis is a recipe for trouble.
Even if the 5 yr old isn't in school yet daycare for a five yr old isn't bad. Oh yeah between all the adults living there I'm sure there is a way to work the schedule for no daycare.
What is crazy is the body needs work (exercise). I retired from Army after 20 years and decided no work or exercise. Got back and leg pain. Wondered why. Got work and exercise. Both pains went away l. Plus slept longer and deeper.
good gawd.... over $100k spent to be a social worker..... good grief.... stop trying to take the easy route
Dang... talk about tough love. LOL... I'd better keep my ducks in a row. I don't want Uncle Dave after me... lol lol

Human emotions can also be what gets you up off your butt. Plus you lived in an area that had a low cost of living.
