Also, I made a mistake, it turns out that even the official FFIV Game Boy Micros say "Finest Fantasy For", I had assumed that this was some sort of Engrish to avoid copyright, my bad!
I just bought one from a local Hard-off, for a pretty penny, while visiting Japan. "finest fantasy for advance here" didn't even notice it till I watched this video. Made my heart skip a beat that I got a fake!!!! Cause mine didn't come with a box, but the quality was damn excellent is what I was thinking if it is a fake. Then I saw boxed ones on ebay with the same wording... haha. well, thanks for pointing it out but, hopefully mine isn't a fake fingers crossed. Don't have any weird gaps or dents on mine, so I think mine is real. Damn now I need to find that FFIV game too since mine didn't come with it. Thanks for making the video!
I’m glad these repro shells are being made! Maybe not the best quality.. but it’s better than nothing. Original shells are quite expensive and hard to get your hands on
Great video! I really liked the sexy part where you removed the protective film. Can't wait to see this channel grow. You should really try and work with Joey Bonzo at some point!
I just spent $379.66 total on a new old stock Silver Micro from Japan, along with a chrome gold aftermarket front plate and a set of white buttons. Going for a light vibrant gold, silver and white look. I've modified my GBC and GBA SP in the past, plus had an old Micro years ago I bought from Vietnam. Unfortunately that Micro had a bad screen, and my pink Micro was all scratched up.
That's awesome! It's always crazy to me when new old stock consoles show up out of nowhere, you gotta wonder how they stayed unopened for so long, sounds like a cool color scheme you've got planned as well. Modding a Micro is easier than I thought it would be, and if you've done other GBs in the past you'll be fine.
I got the famicom one, it looks basically identical next to my real famicom faceplate and so I used it to fix up my spare micro that had a cracked faceplate, only real complaint with it is that the faceplate sits a little higher than the original, which makes the buttons sit shallower in the faceplate, but it does still work fine so I'll probably use the spare one so I don't feel bad if it gets scratched. I took the adhesive off the back because it makes it very hard to remove the faceplate and I found it took some of the black "foam" around the screen with it when I first put it in without noticing it had that. Overall it's way better than the older faceplates that didn't even look glossy but you could see through OK.
I think that's what they're best for, if I scratch up an OEM faceplate, I'm going to feel bad, if I scratch this, it's not the end of the world. It's interesting though, I didn't have problems with mine sitting higher, though I've read a few other people having the same issue...
@@Neo-Kobe It’s the biggest minus for me, hence I switched back to OEM. it is playable no question but my fingers geht cramped up when doing longer gaming sessions due to the buttons being harder to press in.
I want a green one but the one im wanting is 250+ and ive only seen 2 on ebay cuz otherwise they dont exist. But ngl i didnt even think about getting a cheap one to shell swap a green one if they make it
Sí, el control deslizante de volumen y el control deslizante de encendido forman parte de un marco de plástico. Desgraciadamente, esto no viene con la carcasa de recambio, así que tendrás que buscarlo en tu propio sistema.
I wasn't aware that they were making aftermarket buttons, I'll have to take a look at that. I'm hoping that they'll eventually make the inner plastic frame, but I suspect that it's too complicated for the manufacturers to reproduce.
They're better but they're not perfect. In the video I show off two gaps, one on the battery side, and one on the volume rocker side. I managed to fix the gap on the volume rocker side, and the gap on the battery side could be because I'm using a LiPo battery. I'd say go for it, the full set is around £40 (shell + faceplate), adding that to the £40 you spent on the system, that's still a good price for a Micro. If nothing else, get one of the faceplates, they're £20 or less and are pretty much perfect, very clean and clear.
@@Neo-Kobe thanks for the in depth reply, I heard bending the shell will help a lot when installing. Unfortunately I got scammed for the gameboy micro, guess I shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up. What hurts the most is losing that money that could have gone towards a micro for a little more. I’m absolutely gutted and it’s really put me off getting one now. Keep up the videos though I found it really enjoyable and relaxing to watch.
@@jaredstone5028 Thank you, really sorry to hear that, I know that feeling all too well, buying used consoles is always a gamble, and unfortunately retro gaming is full of scammers now. Hope you can find some sort of way to get your money back and that you end up with an even better Micro someday.
Mine fit into my OEM shell just fine, and what I meant by the tabs breaking is that the tabs on the faceplate have a tendency to snap off occasionally, given that you have to press on them in order to remove them from the console. If you're looking to get just the faceplate, you can't really go wrong, definitely the best part about this aftermarket shell.
Nope, the faceplate was completely clear, it's not foggy and it comes in a case with a plastic sleeve over it to prevent scratching while in the post. The faceplate is by far the best part of this kit.

Yo dawg, 10 seconds in and already see the quality! I'm hyped to see what you do!!!!!! Dope man!!! Poggies! Love Yoot! Get dis shiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!

Totally, I've barely found any listings for OEM shells, so these aftermarket shells get points for that alone
@Neo-Kobe absolutely! To bad there weren't many micros sold.. but luckily they are quite popular by us collector's! And enthusiasts.
Thank you for this video. It's helpful for those of us waiting for a good shell replacement to hit the market.
I just bought one like this, it's in the mail. Glad I found your video, thank you for making it. :)
Glad I could help, hope you enjoy it!
Great video! Your voiceover is amazing! Thank you for the shoutout as well!
appreciate the update and well done! also, micro endeavors does a great job indeed. enjoy your Micro!

Your voice kinda sounds like a young H. Jon Benjamin. Awesome!
Hahaha, as a Home Movies fan I take that as a compliment!
Thanks a ton, that’s exactly what I was waiting for.
Does the link you want to post is the shop we can see on the video ?
Yeah, I have to wait until my account is verified to post it here, but if you check the Game Boy Micro subreddit, I've posted the shop there.

Una pregunta... ¿entonces no viene con los botones de volumen y esas partes rosadas que quedaron de tu carcasa original?

Have you got the buttons from there yet? I'm thinking of getting a pair of black ones. Just wanted to know if they are good or not

Are they better fitting now? I saw bad reviews and it put me off. Just bought a beat up micro for £40 with a game and looking to do it up

How well does the aftermarket face plate fit on an official oem shell?
also what did you mean by the tabs breaking, did it come broken or something?

Was the face plate scratched or hazy at all? Some of them come messed up even when new

All the ones on ebay Finest fantasy 😂
Turns out even the official ones have that too, really strange 😅
