  • Watch me take an old Joe 90 car found on ebay and transform it back to condition. One of those toys you might of have or wanted when you were a kid. Quite often these would end up bent and broken and the flashing light invariably failed. A great toy and remarkably similar to the TV studio version of Joe 90. Let's just not think too hard about the plot of the TV show when it ran for one series in the 60's

    Fantastic video I learnt a lot. I have restored one before but did struggle especially with the springs. I have two more to do so now I have a better idea. Thanks 🙏

    I like your rather brutal, but accurate description of the show. A big favourite of mine in 1968, when I was five; it was only on re-watching the show as an adult, I thought: "hang on". A nine year old boy, who, through 32 episodes, kills an awful lot of bad guys. The second episode, 'Hijacked', is great, but jaw dropping, as Joe shoots it out with gun runner Carlotti, after killing his henchmen. Joe loses his gun, and finishes Carlotti with a hand grenade. As you do. Imagine pitching that idea to TV execs today. You'd be asked to leave pretty damn sharpish.
    Saying that, I still love the show - it never looks anything less than astonishing. The sequence in the pilot episode, that uses stills and dialogue is wonderful, and a very adult film technique. Century 21 Films were at the top of their game here, for sure.

      Yes ...I do think that "Brainwashing an orphan boy to become a Soldier of War"- is a bit much to be honest. This programme was made during the Cold War era of James Bond, The Men from UNCLE, Our Man Flint, and many other secret agents. And back in the day, we saw Joe as just Another agent. These days, we can wax lyrical about the morality of it, as much as we like - but it' changes nothing and is quite frankly, irrelevant.
      Still,...the restoration was good.

    Brings back some really nice memories. I had loads of Gerry Anderson toys (usually early too as my Aunt worked in a toy shop). Seeing that first image made me want to cry, it was in such bad condition.
    But the one thing that confuses me is I can’t remember the battery compartment... but I was only 7 or 8 at the time.

    Can you replace the chrome engine without complete dismantling? I removed the single screw on the base, and then the two that hold the engine, but i still couldn't remove it.
    Does something else hold it, perhaps something to do with the bulb holder?

    Where do you get your supplies from when you’re restoring ie stickers, solid parts etc?

    • @adamtinweb
      @adamtinweb  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      there are quite a few cottage industries you can find on ebay that are selling reproduction spares and stickers etc. Normally they have a web shop as well where the prices are a bit cheaper

    Good restoration.
    At the beginning of the recording you talked about the flashing lamp,
    you would solve this ingeniously.
    If the original bulb was broken, how would you have fixed it?

    • @adamtinweb
      @adamtinweb  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah yes, I had made a 3D printed battery and was using that to hold a couple of watch batteries to get around 4.5v. Then I was using a flashing LED that I was going to mount in a broken down bulb so it could still screw in. However the bulb is still working :)

      @@adamtinweb Nice, but I expected a more simple solution that everyone could apply.

      @adamtinweb  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The colour that it was matched too is more of a green, the one that I used was a Metallic Honda Cool Turquoise, BG59M
