Unbroken Soldiers: Bobby Barrera

Produced in partnership with Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Unbroken Soldiers short form documentary series tells the stories of our nation's military veterans and their journeys of triumph from tragedy. Bobby Barrera is a US Marine Corp veteran, wounded six weeks into his Vietnam service. With severe burn wounds covering his body and an amputated arm, Barrera recalls his darkest moment of recovery when he asked his father to shoot him. I first met Mr B as we called him in 1980 in highschool in Delrio tx.He turned out to be a lot more important to me years later as I was also a life member of DAV being honorable discharged early from the navy in 1988 due to disability.Thanks Mr B for helping us all and God Bless You.

I grew up in DEL RIO,TX and knew Bobby before he went to NAM,we use to play football in he,s back yard....never forget it.....My grand mother lived a block away......Your a hero in my book......I also got to service in the US ARMY IN THE 70,s.GOD BLESS.
